Red Nintendo Wii launched for Mario anniversary
Wii goes red for Mario
To celebrate the quarter centenary of Nintendo’s flagship overall-wearing plumber, Ninty is to release a Super Mario 25th anniversary branded limited edition red Nintendo Wii console.
First hitting the NES way back in 1985, Super Mario Bros has become a golden memory of the gaming industry with the two tiny Italians making numerous returns across generations of gaming platforms. As well as coming in a lusty red hue, much like Mario’s trademark clothing, the limited edition Wii will come with a similarly coloured Wii Remote Plus controller and an inbuilt copy of the Super Mario Bros game.
However, despite being set to hit Japanese stores on November 11th, priced 20,000 yen (around £150) the newly shaded Wii has no planned UK release date.
With UK gamers left trawling eBay for a red Wii, Nintendo’s DSi XL is also set to make an appearance at Mario’s anniversary celebrations. Like the Wii, however, the limited edition Mario 25 red portable console will be available only in Japan.
