Kodak Playtouch 1080p HD flip camcorder announced

Will it be good enough to rival the new Sanyo?

Pricey but fully-featured camcorder shows its face

Kodak has announced its first 1080p HD pocket camcorder. The Playtouch, a direct competitor to Sanyo’s Xacti VPC-PD2BK, will available later this year and supports SD/SDHC cards up to 32 GB, allowing for shooting of up to ten hours of full-HD video and stereo sound.

The stylish, Flip-styled Playtouch features a 3-inch capacitive touch screen, allowing for onboard video editing and has an extendable USB arm for charging and computer connectivity. It has an LCD glare shield for use in bright sunlight and – handily - an external microphone jack.

The ever-present ‘share’ button also makes an appearance, here allowing you to automatically upload your recorded photos and videos to YouTube and Facebook when connected to a PC. The Playtouch will be available in the US this autumn, tentatively priced at $230 (£150) and will comes in a choice of five colours from Smoke Gaze (black) to Cabana (orange). There’s no word on a UK release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
