Did Range Rover just take on Jaguar? Radical new electric GT revealed
Fifth member of the Range Rover family arrives as all-electric grand tourer

An all-new member of the Range Rover family has just been revealed, in the form of the all-electric Range Rover GT.
Pitched as a luxury grand tourer with an electric drivetrain, sloping roofline and minimalist interior, the Range Rover GT is not a replacement to the aging Velar, but will instead become the fifth pillar of the Range Rover family. These include the small Evoque, the Velar, the Sport and the full-size Range Rover.
It is testament to the strength of the Range Rover brand that JLR feels it can shuffle the Velar and Sport along slightly, then slot in an all-new model without cannibalising other members of the family.
The big question is, can the same be said for Jaguar? Although neither have been fully revealed just yet, both the Range Rover GT and Jaguar Type 01 are up-market electric GT cruisers that will surely be targeting a similar demographic. It’ll be fascinating to see how that plays out – and what the price difference might be, since the Jaguar is expected to be the pricier of the two.
Back to the Range Rover GT, and while there are no performance figures available yet, imagery shows a refined, simple interior. Looking more like a concept car than a production-ready vehicle, the GT’s cabin features a large central touchscreen on the dashboard with little in the way of physical switchgear. This is joined by a letterbox-shaped driver display behind the steering wheel, lounge-like seating for four or five depending on configuration, and a steering wheel with ‘hidden-until-lit’ buttons that only illuminated when needed.
JLR described the Range Rover GT as having “class-leading” rear seat legroom, and the standard-fit four-seat option with large central armrest and touchscreen suggests this is more of a luxurious elevated saloon car than a family-friendly SUV.
JLR says of the cabin: “The interior of Range Rover GT is shaped by the same reductive principles that define its exterior proportions: purity, precision and quiet modernity…A woven textile, part of a suite of beautiful materials, wraps the dashboard in a single, cohesive gesture - tactile, architectural, and designed to hide speakers from within.
Hinting at an improved voice assistant, JLR describes the GT’s interior as being a “sanctuary of calm, with a focus on reduced visual and acoustic noise and natural conversational access to more vehicle functions than ever before.”
To be built in Halewood in northern England, the Range Rover GT is the first of its family to use the new EMA platform. It’ll be available as an EV initially with, JLR says, the option of adding a hybrid version later. Although not confirmed, the new platform is expected to be used by upcoming models of Land Rover, including the rumoured Defender Sport.
As for when the Range Rover GT will be available to buy, JLR says prototype vehicles are undertaking their final on-road testing now, and more details about the car will be revealed later in 2026.
