PalmPad: webOS tablet named

HP files for PalmPad trademark, so when's it landing?

New name suggests webOS tablet could be just around the corner.

Gagging to see the first fruit of HP and Palm’s love-in? Well, PalmPad could well be it. That’s the name HP has filed for with US Trademark officials, meaning a webOS tablet could be just around the corner.

The filing covers off a slew of different possibilities, including computer hardware and software and ‘mobile digital electronic devices’. HP is clearly covering its back, but has done nothing but fire up rumours that the PalmPad will rock up in 2010.

What this means for the fabled Windows 7 HP slate is unclear. There’s still no official word on when it will show up, and with the PalmPad giving HP something utterly unique, it might well be that a Windows version gets sidelined completely.
