Roku saved my summer holiday, and now its streaming devices cost even less

As well as use a Roku smart projector to level up my World Cup viewing this summer, I've just returned from a seaside holiday where one of the brand's streaming devices proved to be a godsend.

I'm a sucker for a good, old fashioned British holiday, usually in a sited caravan or lodge. As the owner of a young dog, I don't like leaving him behind, so it suits us all to take a vacation where he can join us. We all get something out of the long walks and fresh air.

Roku Streaming Stick Plus: was £39.99 now £34.99 at Amazon

Capable of 4K HDR streaming, the Streaming Stick Plus is the ideal mid-tier device from Roku. It supports voice control, is compact and features 1,000s of streaming services and apps.

However, I always ensure that I take a streaming device with us for evening entertainment, just in case the provided TV has signal issues. And that turned out to be the case this time.

So on my latest week away, I took a Roku Streaming Stick, connected it wirelessly to my iPhone as a hotspot and we were sorted for the nights when the local entertainment was lacking.

It's a doddle to setup wherever you are – you only need a TV with a HDMI port – and Roku devices are indisputably the best served when it comes to streaming apps. So if you have kids, they can watch children's TV in the mornings, while you can settle down to a movie later.

Now you can follow my lead for even less, as Roku has kicked off its annual summer sale in the UK.

Roku's flagship device is capable of the full 4K HDR streaming with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, and the fastest processor. Wi-Fi support is enhanced too.

The Roku summer sale runs through to 2 September 2026 and you can also find discounted products at Argos, AO, Currys and Very if you'd prefer to shop there.

I find my Streaming Stick to be so handy, I ensure I chuck it in the bottom of my backpack whenever I take a trip somewhere. One tip though: it's wise to update it with the latest apps and software patch before you go – you might not have the fastest signal while you're there (or don't want to take up to much data on your phone plan).
