It’s currently T3’s Sleep Month, which means we’ve been sharing plenty of expert advice on everything from the best mattress toppers to the sleep hacks that actually make a difference. This week in particular, our focus is firmly on the best mattresses, and that includes taking a closer look at some of the standout options currently available.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing the Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, which is one of the brand’s newer models. It’s also keenly priced compared to similar premium mattresses on the market, so naturally I was very curious to see how it performed in a testing scenario.

Below you’ll find my full thoughts on the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, but without giving too much away, it's definitely made a very strong impression.

The Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress is available in five different sizes and can be purchased directly from Bensons for Beds. There are also two firmness levels to choose from, and I’ve been testing the super king in a medium firmness, which has an RRP of £1,450. Pricing remains the same regardless of firmness level.

You can see the standard pricing below, although it’s worth noting that the brand frequently runs promotions. At the time of writing, there’s currently up to £150 off, so I've also listed the sale prices below:

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: unboxing and set up

Delivery was smooth and straightforward, with the mattress arriving around seven days after placing the order. Bensons for Beds provided an exact delivery day along with a two-hour time slot, which is always helpful when you’re waiting for something this large. It arrived in a van and was carried up to my bedroom by two delivery staff, which I was extremely grateful for once I realised just how heavy the mattress actually was.

The mattress arrived fully formed rather than vacuum packed, protected in plastic wrapping. The delivery team removed the packaging afterwards, and there’s also the option to add a mattress recycling service if you need to get rid of an old one.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: design and features

When it comes to comfort, the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress really impressed me. A lot of that comes down to its internal construction, which combines different-sized pocket springs, including 2,000 mini springs and 1,050 full-height springs. These adapt individually to movement, helping the mattress respond to your body whilst also reducing motion transfer – great news if you share a bed with someone who tends to toss and turn.

Alongside the spring system, the mattress features Sensaform 7 Zone Pressure Relieving Air Memory Foam, designed to provide targeted support across different areas of the body. This foam layer is around 6cm thick, which contributes to the mattress’ overall height and plush feel.

Mattress height can be quite a personal preference – some people love the feeling of a taller, more luxurious sleep surface, whilst others prefer something closer to the ground. The Slumberland Air 9.0 definitely leans towards the former.

Another standout feature is its breathable Air channel system, which helps promote airflow through the mattress. This is designed to create a cooler sleep surface compared to traditional memory foam models.

Since I tested it during cooler months, it wasn’t the ultimate test of its cooling capabilities, but I can confirm that I didn’t experience any overheating throughout the entire testing period. The mattress also uses temperature-regulating materials designed to maintain a comfortable sleep environment and prevent heat build-up.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: performance

From the very first night, I was surprised by how quickly my sleep quality improved. As a sleep reviewer, I’m constantly testing different mattresses, duvets and pillows, and whilst that might sound like a dream job, it can actually make it quite difficult to maintain a consistent sleep routine.

In fact, I’d been struggling with my sleep for around two weeks before switching to the Slumberland Air 9.0, so it ended up being a pretty good test of whether a new mattress could actually make a difference.

The comfort was immediately noticeable, largely thanks to the memory foam layer. It adds a lovely sense of cushioning and height, whilst still maintaining a supportive feel underneath. Since I opted for the medium firmness, I was hoping it would strike that balance between soft and supportive, and thankfully it did exactly that.

One practical detail I really appreciated is that the mattress doesn’t need to be flipped, thanks to its integrated comfort layer. You’ll still want to rotate it occasionally, but the maintenance is much easier than with traditional double-sided mattresses. The only small thing to note is that due to its height, standard fitted sheets won’t quite do the job, so you’ll need to use deep fitted sheets instead.

Another interesting design feature is the subtle grooved pattern across the mattress surface, which helps it contour slightly to your body. Before trying it, I noticed it was labelled as a memory foam mattress, and in the past I’ve tended to avoid memory foam models as I'm not keen on the sinking feeling. Fortunately, the Slumberland Air 9.0 strikes a much better balance, providing a pressure-relieving comfort that didn't make me feel feel stuck in place.

Within a few nights, I also noticed myself falling asleep faster and waking up less frequently during the night. I hadn’t changed anything else about my evening routine, so the mattress itself was the only real variable. It’s actually the quickest positive sleep response I’ve experienced from a mattress during testing, which was a really nice surprise.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: alternatives to consider

If you’re exploring alternatives, the DreamCloud Hybrid is another great option. It features a similarly plush top layer paired with a firmer support base, offering strong pressure relief and impressive temperature regulation. It’s also noticeably more affordable than the Slumberland Air 9.0.

Another strong contender is the Sleepeezee Centurial 03, which sits slightly higher in price but offers a number of comparable features. Its plush pillow-top design creates a very tall mattress with a premium feel, and it’s easily one of the most comfortable models I’ve tested over the years.
