The news was confirmed by Sunil Lalvani, managing director of BlackBerry India in an interview with IBN Live.
Speaking on the show, he apparently confirmed that the messaging app would be released on Google’s OS in the next two months.
He echoed earlier comments from BlackBerry executives that the app would be out in the summer. Lalvani stressed that summer does not technically end until September in the US.
When asked to confirm that what he was saying was that BBM for Android would be out before the end of September, the “response was in the affirmative”.
In June, a fake BBM app appeared on the Google Play store and racked up 100,000 downloaded before it was pulled.
