Quick Summary
This watch looks like something much more expensive than it really is.
The Exaequo Revolve Melting Watch is a limited edition watch with clout.
You might think that collectors of luxury, high-end watches are refined beings interested in only the very best of everything. Yet there's one piece which seems to defy that logic from the ground up.
The Cartier Crash is one of the most sought-after watches in the brand's catalogue – and was inspired by a different model which was damaged and deformed in a car accident. Inspired, the Cartier team made the model in very limited quantities, and the rest is history.
Now, another brand has unveiled a trio of limited edition watches which hit the same style points – but at a considerably lower price point. The Exaequo Revolve Melting Watch isn't new in itself, with the brand specialising in the 'melting watch' form.
But these three new limited edition models offer a more colourful take on the design, with blue and green dials which pop a little more than the classics. Each can be found in a yellow gold-toned case – stainless steel with an IP gold treatment – with an additional green-dialled variant in a naturally white-coloured stainless steel case.
Each is powered by a Ronda quartz movement, and comes on a black silicone strap with a butterfly clasp. Case measurements are available, but aren't really going to offer much context with a case shape as wild as this one. You can expect 30m of water resistance from the model.
Overall, I'm a big fan. The case shape is quirky, without being too avant-garde for most people – somewhere in the midst of the Hamilton Ventura, the aforementioned Cartier Crash and a Salvador Dali dreamscape.
Priced at £780 (approx. €900 / US$1,050 / AU$1,570) for the stainless steel-cased model, and £835 (approx. €965 / US$1,125 / AU$1,680) for the yellow gold-toned cases, these models represent exceptional value for money.
