It’s no secret that Philips Hue is widely regarded as the best smart lighting ecosystem you can buy right now, even with so much competition on the market. However, there’s one smart light that truly stands out from the rest, earning the number one position in this guide.
The Philips Hue Play Wall Washer launched last year as a way to cast broad, seamless colour gradients both up and down your wall, instantly transforming the feel of a room. With the right setup, it can also sync with your TV or gaming screen, extending on-screen colours beyond the display for a much more enveloping viewing experience.

The best affordable Philips Hue light
If you want to access the Philips Hue ecosystem without spending a fortune, the new Hue Essential bulbs are by far the most affordable way to do it.
Unlike the standard White and Colour Ambiance bulbs – which offer full RGB colour, higher brightness levels and deeper customisation – the Essential range is designed to strip things back. You still get reliable performance and app control, but at a lower price point.
The main thing to remember is that the Hue Essential bulbs still benefit from the wider Hue ecosystem. They’re Matter-compatible and can be paired with a Hue Bridge to unlock automation and integration with other smart devices. So, whilst they’re more budget-friendly, you’re not sacrificing the reliability or stability Philips Hue is known for.
The best premium Philips Hue light
The Signe Gradient Floor Lamp is one of Philips Hue's most recognisable smart lights, especially as not many smart lighting brands have created a competitor. It's the perfect light to complement any decor, especially when it comes to its slim, stylish design. Just like the brand's Gradient Lightstrip, the Signe blends multiple colours together to paint the walls with a unique gradient of light.
It's available in black, white and oak, and can be controlled via the Philips Hue app or connected to an existing smart lighting setup using the Philips Hue Bridge. There's also a table lamp version if you're after something a little smaller.
The best Philips Hue light for entertainment
The Play Light Bar is great for creating a wide wash of colour in a relatively compact form, which is why it's our top choice for entertainment lighting. It also comes with a power supply that can support up to three light bars, which helps reduce the number of plugs needed if you plan to expand your setup.
In terms of placement, you can stand it upright, lay it horizontally, or mount it to the back of your TV using the included brackets, depending on the effect you’re trying to achieve.

The best Philips Hue string lights
Whilst brands like Nanoleaf and Govee offer compelling alternatives, Festavia remains Hue’s most fully featured and versatile string lighting option – particularly since the arrival of the second generation.
Although the newer model looks similar to the original, it’s now suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, which significantly expands where and how it can be used. There’s also far more flexibility in sizing, with options including 100 LEDs (8 metres), 250 LEDs (20 metres) and 500 LEDs (40 metres). Brightness varies depending on the length you choose, making it easier to match the lights to your space.
One of Festavia’s biggest strengths is its gradient LED zones, which allow multiple colours to appear along the string at the same time. You can display up to three colours simultaneously, creating a more dynamic look than traditional single-colour string lights.
The best Philips Hue pedestal
You’re certainly not short of pedestal light options in the Hue range, and the Nyro is easily one of the most distinctive. Its angular design gives it a bold, architectural look that’s quite different from the softer styles found in many outdoor lights. For some people, that modern aesthetic will be a real highlight, but it’s also fair to say it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste.
Design opinions aside, it’s still a very high-performing outdoor light. It has a high IP rating and a 1035 lumen output, so it does a great job of lighting up pathways and surrounding areas once switched on.
The best Philips Hue spotlight
Whilst the Hue Lily Spotlight is pretty much the only dedicated spotlight Philips Hue offers, that doesn’t mean it isn’t one of the best options in its category. Each light comes with both a ground stake and a surface mount, along with a generous 23-foot extension cable, giving you plenty of flexibility when it comes to positioning them around your garden.
When all three lights are used together, they create a soft and atmospheric glow across a space. That said, they’re designed primarily as accent lights, so they’re best suited to mood lighting and colourful scenes rather than fully illuminating a large outdoor area on their own.

Of all the outdoor wall lights Philips Hue has released, the Appear Outdoor Wall Light remains our favourite. Its sleek, modern vertical design perfectly complements doorways, whilst the 1,180 lumen output at 4,000K is noticeably brighter than many other outdoor options on the market today.
Thanks to its shape, the Appear casts crisp triangular beams both upward and downward, creating a striking architectural look. It’s even more effective when used in pairs on either side of a doorway, coming across as incredibly stylish and practical at the same time.
The best Philips Hue floodlight
The Philips Hue Secure Floodlight Camera is the brand’s most advanced outdoor floodlight, combining powerful lighting with built-in home security. Designed to replace a traditional outdoor security light, it delivers an impressive 2250 lumens, making it one of the brightest lights in the Hue outdoor range.
That said, some of its more advanced camera features rely on the Philips Hue Secure subscription plan. Without it, you still get basic functions like live viewing and alerts, but extended video history and certain smart detection tools are locked behind the paid tier. Even with this limitation, it’s still the best floodlight Philips Hue offers, thanks to its extremely bright output and strong build quality.

If you’re after some great outdoor lighting, the Globe Outdoor String Lights from Philips Hue are absolutely worth considering. They have a relatively low lumen output, so they’re less about visibility and more about creating atmosphere. That actually works in their favour, making them ideal for areas where mood matters more than brightness.
The large globe-style bulbs also give them a more premium look than typical outdoor fairy lights, especially when paired with Hue’s colour-changing features and scenes. You can switch between warm white for relaxed evenings or more vibrant colours when hosting friends, all controlled through the Hue app.

Choosing the best Philips Hue lights really comes down to where you plan to use them and what you want them to do. Philips Hue is obviously a huge ecosystem, so if you’re just starting out, smart bulbs are usually the easiest entry point, especially the more affordable Essential range.
