Spotify app now available for Android handsets

Get the imposter now or wait for the real thing

The real thing has been seen on Android handsets, but as yet, Spotify hasn't actually been made available for download. If you can't wait, you can now opt for something unoffiicial instead - Droidify.

Apparently it has been created by 'enthusiasts' for one reason only: 'So that people can enjoy Spotify on their Android phones, while waiting for the release of the official client from Spotify'. Yes, think of this as the starter to the full Spotify main course.

Not that Droidify lacks features. It does allow playlist and song synchronisation over Wi-Fi or 3G, but falls short right now by not allowing offline playback, one of the key selling points of the official app. It is something the developers are considering for future updates, but right now, you need to be wired (or should that be wireless) for sound. However, if it does get offline playback, there's no reason why Droidify couldn't be a contender - especially if it pulled in the punters ahead of the official launch.

Just search for it right now on the Android market if you want it. Droidify (like the forthcoming Spotify app) does require you have a premium account to download it.
