Motorola Milestone FroYo update may not happen

Exec says Moto "undecided" on upgrade

Motorola boss spells out difficulties with Android updates.

The Motorola Milestone may never get a dollop of Android FroYo. The mobile maker’s James King, who looks after marketing in Europe, has said it’s undecided on whether to bring the update to the QWERTY-packing powerhouse.

In a post on Motorola’s forum, King explained that top brass were still making a decision on an upgrade, something he wants to happen “soon”. However, he was quick to explain that implementing Android 2.2 was not easy.

“Upgrades are not a walk in the park,” he said. “Sure there are shortcuts that people can take, but when you have to integrate software to a specific hardware, then test it and integrate with third party applications… it’s is a big undertaking.”

This does seem like a strange move however, as the US version of the phone, the Motorola Droid, is reportedly receiving an update. It also begs the question as to why Google rolls out such updates when Moto and HTC both struggle to get them working on their phones in good time. Currently only the soon-to-be-defunct Nexus One officially rocks Android 2.2.

How do you feel about Motorola’s indecision? Is Google rolling out too may updates or does it need to be tougher with its partners and make the upgrade quicker? Tell us now on Facebook and Twitter.
