Samsung has just announced its Unpacked 2018 event where it will most likely be launching the next-generation Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones. The date is set for 25 February.
Samsung sent out a tweet, below, teasing the Unpacked 2018 event with a large image and video of a nine taking up the centre of the picture. So it’s pretty clear what phone we can expect to see right on time for Samsung’s annual refresh of its flagship. This is, as usual, just before the Mobile World Congress tech trade show begins.

The tweet also teases what the big sell of the new Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be: their cameras. The words read “The Camera. Reimagined.” Leaks have already given us hints at what that could refer to. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to feature a new type of camera with an f/1.5 – f/2.4 aperture.
That aperture would make it the most impressive of any smartphone yet. A better aperture value essentially means a camera that can let in more light. This not only leads to better low light photography but also more accurate pictures all round, as the camera is able to intelligently avoid blur using that extra light.
The other positive here is that the aperture has that range, meaning it can vary the amount of light let in for an even more accurate final image. It should also mean plenty more modes and manual options to play with.
Samsung is expected to feature a dual-lens rear camera, in the S9+ at least. Both phones are expected to have a super, super slow motion mode that records video at 1,000 fps.
Other rumours hint that we can also look forward to a better screen with Y-OCTA tech in the OLED plus a fingerprint sensor under the screen panel.
The build of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ should be similar to the Galaxy S8, which is no bad thing thanks to all that metal, glass and of course the gorgeous Infinity Display.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 price and release date have not leaked but expect to empty out your piggy bank before March is done.
