Philips OneUp 5000 Series Electric Mop review: the mop that's totally changed how I clean my floors

You've been living under a rock if you haven’t noticed the sudden uprise in electric mops lately. They’re popping up everywhere at the moment, all because people want faster, easier ways to keep their homes clean – and I’m 100% included in that.

So, when the Philips OneUp 5000 Series Electric Mop finally landed in the UK last month, I couldn’t wait to try it. I actually saw it in action earlier this year during an event hosted by Philips, but until now it had only been available in Europe.

So, was it worth the wait? You'll find my full thoughts below.

Philips OneUp 5000 Series Electric Mop review: price and availability

The Philips OneUp 5000 retails for £149.99/€149.99, which is a touch pricier than your average electric mop. You can grab it directly from Philips or from retailers like Currys, John Lewis and Amazon.

There is a 3000 Series option available which is priced slightly cheaper, but it only provides up to 50 minutes of battery life and doesn't have dual wetness settings.

In the box, you get the mop itself, one replaceable mop pad, a OneUp floor cleaner cartridge, and a USB-C charging cable.

Assembly is very simple, arriving in two pieces that screw together with a small screwdriver. It takes less than a couple of minutes to assemble and can easily be unscrewed again for storage in smaller spaces.

Once you’ve slotted in the floor cleaner cartridge, it stays in the clean water tank and dispenses just a few sprays per use. Philips says it’ll last up to 40 cleans, and when you eventually run out, you can buy a two-pack refill for £16.99 via Philips’ website.

Design wise, the OneUp 5000 has many details that justify its slightly higher price tag. Its standout feature is Philips’ patented OneUp technology, which pumps clean water onto the floor whilst sucking up dirty water at the same time.

This means the two water tanks never mix, ensuring you’re not spreading dirty water around – something that happens all too often with traditional mops.

It also has a cordless design, which makes it super flexible to use, especially under furniture and around corners. The replaceable mop pad is machine washable for up to six months, which is a great touch for both convenience and sustainability.

I love that Philips went down the reusable route here, especially when compared to disposable-pad models like the Shark VacMop – which I’m not a fan of, for that reason alone.

Battery life is also very impressive. You get around 70 minutes of use, which is more than enough for a full clean – unless you live in a mansion, of course.

The USB-C charging is super convenient too, as it means you can use the same cable you already have for your phone or laptop. There’s also a small LED screen that shows battery levels and when it’s time to recharge, which is a nice modern touch.

After using the Philips OneUp 5000 for a while, I can say I’ve genuinely enjoyed the experience – and the more I tested it, the clearer it became why it costs a little more than most. The cleaning performance is more than impressive, and it’s something you notice straight away.

Now, I swear by my Dyson WashG1, so I wasn’t expecting anything to come close, but I was pleasantly surprised by how shiny my floors looked after using the OneUp. It’s also easier to manoeuvre than the Dyson, especially in tight areas like around my bath and sink.

That said, you do need to vacuum your floors first before mopping. With something like the WashG1, you get used to skipping that step since it vacuums and washes simultaneously. However, to get the best results with the OneUp, you need to do that bit of prep first.

I also love that there are two different cleaning levels, so you can adjust depending on the type of floor or mess you’re dealing with. There also isn't that much difference between the two settings when it comes to battery life, which is a pretty rare thing. For such a powerful mop, I think that's very impressive indeed.

Switching out the water tanks is quick and hassle-free, and the cartridge system for the floor solution is super easy to manage. The LED display, USB-C charging and the quiet operation all made it feel premium and well thought out.

The Philips OneUp 5000 Series Electric Mop is a sleek, practical and slightly pricier option, but it delivers an impressive performance that justifies the cost. Its standout OneUp technology keeps clean and dirty water separate, whilst the cordless design, 70-minute battery life and reusable mop pad make cleaning both easy and eco-friendly. You'll need to make sure you vacuum your floors before use, but overall, it’s a well-designed mop that makes everyday floor cleaning very satisfying indeed.

Philips OneUp 5000 Series Electric Mop review: alternatives to consider

If you’re after something cheaper with a similar design, the Shark VacMop could be an alternative. It vacuums as well, so you can skip the pre-cleaning step, but it uses disposable pads, so you’ll need to decide how important that eco-friendly angle is for you.

As I mentioned, I’m a huge fan of the Dyson WashG1, and it’ll probably always be my go to for deep cleans. However, for something a little more affordable, simpler to use, and still capable of leaving your floors spotless, the OneUp 5000 is still an impressive contender.
