One major perk of being T3’s Home Editor is that I get to test all the latest and greatest home appliances, and I’ve never been more grateful for that than getting to test a multitude of fans during this summer’s heatwaves. It has been hot hot hot in the UK, so when I was given the opportunity to test the new MeacoFan Sefte 8”, I very quickly said yes while trying not to melt in the heat!

Meaco is well known for its air purifiers, dehumidifiers and fans, and it currently holds the top spot in our best fan guide. Its latest launch for 2025, the MeacoFan Sefte 8” is the brand’s newest air circulator that promises cooling relief, easy controls and eco-friendly credentials.

I’ve spent the last few weeks testing the MeacoFan Sefte 8”, and it’s quickly become my go-to fan for the summer – here’s why.

MeacoFan Sefte 8" review: unboxing and set-up

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” arrived with the main fan, a plug and cable – although it can be used cordless – and a remote with a rechargeable and replaceable battery. It measures just 261mm x 212mm x 383mm so it can sit on your desk, bedside table and other small areas around your home. It also weighs 2.3kg.

Setting up the MeacoFan Sefte 8” was extremely simple – all you need to do is plug it in and then you can adjust the settings via the remote or on the base of the device. Once it’s been plugged in for a few hours, the cable and plug can be removed from the back of the fan, and it can work cordlessly.

MeacoFan Sefte 8" review: design and features

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” is a portable, powerful fan and air circulator which can be used corded or cordless. Given its dimensions, it’s quite a short and compact fan that doesn’t take up too much space in your home or on any surfaces.

It has a very similar design to the MeacoFan Sefte 10” Air Circulator, with its round fan head and slim grates that stand atop its main base. The base has a circular LCD screen that displays the temperature in the room it's in, fan speeds, oscillation and different modes. It has four touchscreen buttons – on/off, modes, fan speeds and oscillation.

When you use the base to customise the controls, the MeacoFan Sefte 8” does make a loud beeping noise which could be annoying to some. The controls are very responsive and don’t require too much pushing. In night mode, the MeacoFan Sefte 8” turns off the display and mutes its beeps so as not to disrupt you. It also reads the temperature in the room, and with its ECO mode, it can adjust the fan speeds based on those temperatures.

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” can also be controlled via the remote which is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. It glows in the dark so you can easily adjust your fan through the night, and it has a replaceable lithium-ion battery that powers it.

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” has 12 fan speeds on offer. The higher the level, the louder the fan is but it’s not massively disruptive as the sound starts at just 27 dB. It circulates up to 756m3 of air per hour, and has a DC brushless motor that spreads cooling air around the room.

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” has a 1.6m cable but it can be used cordless with up to 17 hours of cordless use. It has a small area at the back where you can hold it and carry it around with you, so you can use it both indoors and outdoors. The oscillation of the MeacoFan Sefte 8” is 70-degrees horizontally, and you can move the fan head up and down manually.

The entire design and functions of the MeacoFan Sefte 8” has been thought out very cleverly, although I do think the shape of the remote isn’t the most practical. The fan and remote feels high quality, despite its plastic construction, and its base controls really stand out and make the MeacoFan Sefte 8” a more attractive package.

MeacoFan Sefte 8" review: performance

Despite its compact size, I did find the MeacoFan Sefte 8” a little bulky and heavy, considering its small dimensions. It’s not a struggle to carry around or pick up, but I was surprised by its weight – although compared to other fan designs, it’s much easier to move around.

Weight ‘issues’ aside, the MeacoFan Sefte 8” was surprisingly powerful, even at its lowest fan speeds. It didn’t make a huge amount of noise while in action, but the airflow was strong, cooling and relieving – exactly what I needed during the recent heatwaves that hit the UK.

I loved the screen of the MeacoFan Sefte 8”, especially when it displayed the current temperatures in the room – which was up to 30 during the heatwaves. The base controls were quick and easy to flick through, although the beeps could be a bit loud. Night mode definitely got me through sleeping in the heat, although the MeacoFan Sefte 8” did die overnight while I was using it cordless, so I’d suggest plugging it in if you’re using it during the night.

I enjoyed how versatile the MeacoFan Sefte 8” was, from using it indoors and outdoors, to playing around with the speeds and modes. The oscillation didn’t move or reach as wide as I’d expected but I like the ability to move the head up and down manually for better coverage.

MeacoFan Sefte 8" review: verdict

The MeacoFan Sefte 8” has become my go-to fan for this summer – which I was extremely yet pleasantly surprised by, as I have a huge number of fans dotted around my house. Its portability and versatility is excellent, and the number of fan speeds and modes can be tailored to suit your needs, from a light breeze to full air con-like cooling.

Meaco has really thought of everything with the MeacoFan Sefte 8”, including its eco-friendly credentials with its rechargeable battery. While I did find the weight to be heavier than expected, every other feature hit the mark perfectly, so it’s easily become my favourite fan. If you’re looking for a taller option though, the MeacoFan Sefte 8” might not fit the bill, but it’s just as powerful – if not more so – than bigger fans.

MeacoFan Sefte 8" review: alternatives to consider

The MeacoFan Sefte 10” Air Circulator is almost identical to the MeacoFan Sefte 8” so it’s a great alternative if you want something that can turn from a desk fan into a pedestal fan. It’s also bigger at 10 inches so has more coverage or height if that’s something you’re looking for.

The Shark FlexBreeze HydroGo is another great alternative, and has a very similar design to the MeacoFan Sefte 8”. It can be used indoors or outdoors and has a large handle at the back so it can be easily carried around – something that the MeacoFan Sefte 8” doesn’t have, although it does have a small space for your fingers for carrying purposes. It doesn’t have as many speeds and it’s more expensive than the MeacoFan Sefte 8” but the Shark FlexBreeze HydroGo is a commendable alternative.
