SURI Core 1.0 review: Great design meets a friendlier price

The best electric toothbrush market changed for the better when SURI arrived on the scene. Launching with the SURI 1.0 (now discontinued) in 2022, followed by the SURI Pro 2.0 in September last year, the brand has grown hugely in popularity thanks to its refreshingly simple approach to oral care.

Now, the new SURI Core 1.0 joins the Pro 2.0 to offer two distinct approaches to your morning routine. Whilst the Pro 2.0 remains SURI's most complete and premium brushing experience, the Core 1.0 strips things back, focusing on everyday performance and the features you'll actually use.

I was invited to a secret briefing a few weeks ago to find out more about the Core 1.0 and was lucky enough to take one home with me. I've been brushing with it for the past fortnight, so you'll find all my thoughts below.

Price and availability

The SURI Core 1.0 is priced at £65 and is available from SURI's online store and Amazon, as well as online and in-store at Boots. For comparison, the SURI Pro 2.0 costs £85 on its own or £105 with the UV cleaning case, making the Core a considerably more accessible entry point into the SURI lineup.

It's available in four colours – Haze (green), Ember (orange), Nightfall (blue) and Moonrise (grey). They're deliberately different from SURI's previous colourways, which helps give the Core its own identity.

Design and features

The Core 1.0 carries SURI's recognisable sleek design into a lightweight bio-circular handle, and it noticeably feels lighter in the hand than the Pro 2.0. Like every SURI toothbrush, it also uses plant-based brush heads that can be returned for recycling in the UK and US. This focus on reducing waste is one of the many reasons SURI picked up our Sustainability Award in the T3 Awards 2026.

Despite its lower price, SURI hasn't cut back on the essentials. The Core 1.0 is clinically tested to remove 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush, and still includes a built-in pressure sensor and two-minute timer.

It also retains the impressive four-week battery life SURI has become known for, alongside quiet sonic cleaning at under 65dB. A compact wireless charging pebble and magnetic mirror mount are included too.

The most obvious omission compared to the Pro 2.0 is SURI's UV cleaning travel case, which isn't included with the Core 1.0. Instead, you get a plant-based brush head cover, keeping things simple and lightweight when you're travelling. There's also a built-in button lock, so you don't have to worry about the toothbrush accidentally switching itself on inside your bag.

The Pro 2.0 also has a more powerful motor with a higher number of brush strokes per minute, alongside SURI's TouchSense pressure sensor, which the brand says can help deliver four times healthier gums. You also get colour-matched plant-based brush heads with the Pro, whereas the Core comes with white brush heads regardless of which handle colour you choose.

Performance

After using the SURI Core 1.0 for the past fortnight, the biggest difference I've noticed compared to the Pro 2.0 is simply how much lighter it feels. It's noticeably more lightweight in the hand, but otherwise the two feel remarkably similar to use.

You still get the same two cleaning modes as the Pro 2.0, which is perfectly fine in my opinion. The Core does have a slightly less powerful motor, but I didn't notice a huge difference during everyday brushing. My teeth felt just as clean afterwards, and the pressure sensor and two-minute timer worked reliably throughout testing.

Battery life is just as impressive too. SURI claims up to four weeks, but I managed to get closer to five weeks before needing to recharge, which I know will be very useful for travelling.

Two of my favourite features on the Pro 2.0 are its magnetic mirror mount and UV cleaning case, so I was very happy to see the mirror mount stick around. However, I did find myself missing the UV case more than I expected, particularly for its charging functionality. When I've travelled for a few weeks at a time, being able to store the toothbrush securely and top up the battery without packing the separate charger has been incredibly useful. That said, it's undoubtedly a more premium extra, so I completely understand why SURI has left it out to keep the Core 1.0 more affordable.

One thing I'm not quite as sold on is the white brush head. SURI has introduced four completely new colours for the Core 1.0 anyway, so I don't really understand why the heads couldn't have been made to match. It's purely an aesthetic complaint and doesn't affect performance whatsoever, but part of SURI's appeal has always been its design, so the mismatched head does take away from that slightly. Whether it'll be enough to push design-conscious shoppers towards the Pro 2.0 remains to be seen.

However, when you consider the £65 price, these are relatively small compromises. The Core 1.0 still looks and feels like a SURI toothbrush, delivers an almost identical everyday brushing experience and retains many of the features that made the Pro 2.0 so easy to recommend. Bringing that experience to a lower price point feels like a sensible direction for the brand.

Verdict

The SURI Core 1.0 takes everything I already love about the Pro 2.0 and puts it into a lighter, more affordable package. The motor isn't quite as powerful and I definitely miss the UV charging case, but it still provides an excellent everyday brushing experience. Battery life remains exceptional, the pressure sensor and timer work reliably, and my teeth felt just as clean throughout testing. I'm still not convinced by the mismatched white brush heads, but at £65, it's a small complaint. The Core 1.0 feels like a natural next step for SURI and makes the brand's excellent design and performance accessible to more people.

Alternatives to consider

The obvious alternative is the SURI Pro 2.0 itself. The two toothbrushes share plenty of similarities, but if you want the more powerful brushing experience and think you'll make use of the UV cleaning case, I'd say it's worth spending the extra.

Another affordable electric toothbrush I regularly recommend is the Oral-B iO2, particularly if you're not interested in extras such as multiple cleaning modes or Bluetooth connectivity. It can often be found for around £30 and comes in black or forest green.
