Nokia for multimedia, Sony Ericsson for music - LG for touch screen?

From Chocolate to Shine and to Prada and Viewty, in the last year LG's been on overdrive, churning out phones that look terrific.

At first glance the touchscreen looks huge, but it's actually only the bottom 1.5in 'InteractPad' which is touch responsive, the controls changing depending on the function being used. However, this is very hit and miss. In main menu, it works because you can customise the buttons, so key features are a press away. However, most of the time, it's simply a poor four-way controller, dragging sluggishly around the page when you browse. Swap it into camera or music mode and things improve, as you skip through tracks or scroll around photos.

With some funky Keith Haring style interfaces and swimming sharks, the LKF600 is one of the best looking phones we've seen. The excellent screen is exceptionally good for texting and browsing.

With a smooth interface and equaliser, the music player isn't bad either, the adaptor is proprietary, but a 3.5mm jack lets you hook up your own buds. Overuse will eat your battery though, with some music and average calls and texts we eeked out a day and a half of juice.

The KF600 is one of the few cameras to include an auto focus, but LG really shouldn't have bothered. Shutter lag is noticeable anyway, but flick on auto focus and the delay is even longer.

Beneath the gorgeous styling, the Venus is very average handset. If the Interact Pad was developed further, the camera improved and connectivity enhanced (3G please), LG would have something truly appealing. At the moment it just a bit half arsed.
