LG Optimus Z Android 2.1 handset unveiled in Korea

Could 3.5-inch 'Hyper HD Display' beast get UK release?

Fully-featured smartphone packs an Android punch

We don’t mean to tease you with phones that aren’t destined for UK releases too much, but the newly announced LG Optimus Z is an exception because it looks rather tasty.

It’s just been unveiled for a South Korean release, which is a shame because its specs and looks would certainly suit a UK audience. The screen is a 3.5-inch WVGA "Hyper HD display", under which lurks a 1GHGz Qualcomm processor - the same as in the HTC Desire. A 5-Megapixel camera and Dolby Mobile sound finished things off nicely.

Sadly, a UK release has been all but completely denied by an LG spokesperson, saying: “R&D says Z was designed for Korean tastes,” although they did add that the Optimus Z is “the best looking Android smartphone I've seen come out of LG yet!"

Is everything lost, then? Well, not quite. That same spokesperson did suggest that "overseas markets are likely to get something similar.” Perhaps named the Optimus Prime? We can but hope.
