Apple is said to be planning a tie-up with a second Far Eastern manufacturer as the release of the iPad 3 nears. Digitimes reckons that Cupertino is looking to ramp up production soon, and that Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology could be in line to benefit.
The move is said to be a result of a fire at Foxconn back in May. Foxconn is Apple’s chosen manufacturer for the iPad, but has been the subject of intense media interest in light of revelations about poor working conditions.
The same report says sources are confident the new iPad will be out later this year, pointing to recent tittle tattle about the new model being dubbed either the iPad 2 Plus or iPad HD. The new slate is expected to have an improved screen, but pack the same innards as the current iPad.
