Smartphone retailer Carphone Warehouse has announced it is to offer RIM’s inaugural tablet the BlackBerry PlayBook a day earlier than planned in the UK.
Securing a 24 hour exclusivity period, the BlackBerry PlayBook will be available in selected Carphone Warehouse stores on June 15th, with all other UK retailers having to wait until the following day before making the 7-inch tablet available to consumers.
Those eager to get their hands on BlackBerry’s entrant to the increasingly crowded tablet market will be able to snap the device up a day early from Carphone Warehouse outlets in London’s Oxford Street Selfridges store, Westfield, Manchester Trafford Centre, Bluewater and Bristol Cribbs.
This isn’t the first time a tech giant has teamed up exclusively with a major retailer. Up until last year, Apple iPhones were exclusive to o2 customers while in June 2009, Dixons Store Group secured a 60-day deal to sell the iPad across its 139 nationwide stores.
The BlackBerry PlayBook is to be available in the UK in 16-, 32- and 64GB variants priced £399, £479 and £559 respectively. The tablet will come equipped with dual cameras, Wi-Fi connectivity and a 1GHz dual-core processor.
