Fizzing with power and built for AI, the GMKtec EVO-X3 makes a mockery of the components crisis – 128GB RAM, 4TB SSD and Strix Halo processing

The rise of the mini PC in the last couple of years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Even during a worldwide RAM and components crisis, mini PC manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a compact box.
GMKtec is one of the companies you might have spotted on the likes of Amazon, with its numerous AMD and Intel mini PCs. They're available at all price points and configurations, but if you really take your productivity seriously, there's a new flagship model you need to take a look at.
The GMKtec EVO-X3 is a mini PC in theory, but more an an AI workstation in practice. It's capable of general computer use, even AAA gaming, but the power under the hood can do so much more besides.
The slim form factor contains an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 CPU supported by Radeon 8060S integrated graphics. This is one of the best iGPUs ever made and considering its made up of 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, there's little it can't handle.
On top of that, the standard EVO-X3 comes with 128GB of unified memory (LPDDR5X) running at 8,000 MT/s. It also has a 2TB SSD inside, with an upgraded version expanding that up to 4TB.
You can even upgrade further yourself, with dual M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD slots and a head limit 16TB.
Premium connectivity
Wi-Fi 7 is on board, along with Bluetooth 5.4, 2.5G LAN, and a host of ports, including USB 4.0, HDMI 2.1 and even Oculink, if you want to add an external GPU.
It is, in short, a beast – in the body of a supermodel.
GMKtec claims that it's designed for running local LLM AI processes and can be used for AI software development. But it's also well suited to image and video generation, 3D rendering and CAD workflows. And it comes with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled.
And if you fancy running the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 while the boss isn't looking, you can easily achieve up to 90fps it in high settings at 1440p.
Of course, all this grunt comes at a price – the GMKtec EVO-X3 usually starts at £3,212, although the brand currently has it reduced on its website, for £2,939.99. It's currently $3,799.99 in the US.
