CoPilot launches turn-by-turn sat nav for Android
First fully featured GPS guide for the Google platform
Sat Nav aficionado CoPilot has announced that it has just launched the first turn-by-turn GPS navigation software for Android.
Until now, despite being loaded up to the rafters with GPS and Google Maps, proper GPS software has been a bit of a rarity on the Google phone operating system. CoPilot Live is here now though, bringing with it voice-guided turn-by-turn instructions, real time travel information and 3D mapping.
Obviously, this isn’t a first in terms of sat nav on a handset – CoPilot Live already lives on Windows Mobile and Symbian, and little has changed for its Android iteration. The main difference you might notice is the touchscreen gesture controls, which allow you to flick through menus and scroll the maps.
All the digital street maps are all kept on the phone memory so they load up nice and quick. Additional services are delivered using the phone’s network connection, which include real-time traffic alerts, five day weather forecasts and a new location sharing service called CoPilot LiveLink – cheating spouses may want to check that feature carefully.
CoPilot Live costs £25.99 for maps of the UK and Ireland. It’s £59.99 if you want the whole of Europe. The software is available now in the Android Marketplace and is compatible with HTC Magic, T-Mobile Android G1 and the new HTC Hero.
