Angry Birds records half a billion all format downloads
Following its original release in 2009 via Apple's iTunes based App Store Rovio's bird-flinging app sensation Angry Birds has surpassed the 500 million all format download milestone
Angry Birds developer Rovio has released a new video revealing its much loved app based game has now been downloaded more than half a billion times.
Having launched via the Apple App Store in 2009 bound for iOS devices, Angry Birds has gone from strength to strength to become the global sensation it is today with versions of the bird-flinging title now available on Android, Windows Phone 7 and Mac app platforms.
Earlier today Rovio’s Chief Marketing Officer, Peter Vesterbacka announced the company is to open the first Angry Birds shops in China over the coming 12 months.
Touted as the beset selling mobile gaming release in the world, Angry Birds’ 500 million download announcement comes just weeks after the title was reported to have hit the 400 million milestone and lands alongside a selection of other hugely impressive figures.
Having topped download charts in 79 countries Angry Birds has racked up 200,000 years of total game time to date with 300 million minutes of play being added on a daily basis. Following the initial success of Angry Birds Rovio released two spin-offs with Angry Birds Seasons and movie tie-in Angry Birds Rio both becoming chart toppers.
