T3 Verdict

Unlike standard, one-size-fits-all pillows, this design lets you add or remove hexagonal foam clusters to create your perfect height and firmness. Having tested it for a full month, I'd say it's a great choice for anyone who's struggled to find their ideal pillow. The sustainable credentials are impressive too, with 50% lower carbon footprint than standard foam. This isn't a particularly firm pillow, though, so if you prefer very firm support, it won't be for you.

If you've been on a pillow quest like I have, constantly searching for that elusive perfect support, here's something a little different that could be for you. The Fine Bedding Company HoneyFoam pillow is a pillow that adapts to you – rather than forcing you to adapt to it – is something with clear appeal to anyone who finds it difficult to get comfortable at night.

The HoneyFoam pillow comes from the Fine Bedding Company, a fourth-generation British family business that's been making bedding since 1912. Recently re-certified as a B Corp with an impressive score of 112.6, they manufacture in their purpose-built Estonian eco-factory that runs on 100% renewable energy.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: price and availability

The HoneyFoam pillow retails for £99 on the Fine Bedding Company website and Amazon, although I've seen it at some UK retailers for as low as £89. It's worth noting you're buying a single pillow here, whereas some competitors offer pairs at similar price points.

At the time of writing, this pillow doesn't appear to be available in the US market, though the company does sell other products internationally.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: packaging and setup

The HoneyFoam pillow arrived in a smart box that would work well inside gift wrapping were you giving this to a loved one. Inside, I found three components: the quilted outer cover with its cheerful yellow piping, an inner mesh bag already filled with the HoneyFoam clusters, and a storage bag for any clusters I chose to remove from the pillow.

The set-up couldn't have been simpler. I slipped the filled inner bag into the outer cover, zipped it up, and the pillow was ready to use. The whole process took about 30 seconds. There was no off-gassing smell whatsoever: a refreshing change from some memory foam products.

The only other thing to do, if you choose to adjust the filling, is to unzip the inner mesh bag halfway and remove as many clusters as you like.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: design and features

The design of this pillow is both attractive and functional. The white outer cover features honeycomb quilting that adds an extra layer of cushioning, with yellow piping around the edges that gives it a premium, hotel-quality look. The cover feels substantial and well-made: I could tell immediately this wasn't a budget product.

The real innovation, though, lies in those HoneyFoam clusters. These hexagonal pieces of memory foam look exactly like honeycomb (hence the name) and feel wonderfully soft and springy when you run your hands through them. Unlike traditional solid memory foam, these clusters can move independently, which allows for better airflow and means you can actually adjust how much filling you want.

The outer cover is made from recycled polyester microfibre with 100% machine-washable fabric. The inner mesh bag is breathable, helping air circulate around the foam clusters. There's a care label inside with clear instructions, and the pillow comes with a 2-year guarantee.

When it eventually needs refreshing, you can buy replacement clusters or a new outer cover separately, which I think is a brilliant way of reducing waste.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: performance

I'm primarily a side sleeper who occasionally rolls onto my back, and I've tested everything from traditional down to solid memory foam pillows over the years. What immediately struck me about the HoneyFoam pillow was how different it felt from standard memory foam. Instead of that dense, sinking-in sensation, this pillow felt more responsive and bouncy.

The pillow arrived with a generous amount of filling: I'd describe it as sitting in the medium range rather than medium-firm. This worked perfectly for me as a side sleeper who likes a softer, more yielding feel. My head and neck felt properly supported, and I could feel the clusters moulding around the contours of my head without that claustrophobic "swallowed up" feeling some memory foam gives.

However, it's important to note that even with all the foam clusters included, this isn't what I'd call a firm pillow. If you're someone who likes their pillow really firm and supportive – the kind that barely compresses under your head – this won't be for you. The cluster design means there's always going to be some give and softness, which I personally loved, but firm pillow fans might find it too yielding.

On nights when I slept on my back, the support remained excellent. The pillow kept my neck in a neutral position and I noticed significantly less neck stiffness in the mornings compared to my old pillow. I even tried removing about a third of the clusters to test it for front sleeping (not my usual position), and it worked well; creating a lower, softer surface that didn't strain my neck.

The storage bag for removed clusters is thoughtfully designed. I kept my spare clusters in it, knowing I could easily add them back if I wanted a firmer feel. This flexibility means this one pillow can genuinely work for different sleep positions, for different members of your household, or if your preferences change.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: temperature

I'm someone who usually gets cold rather than hot at night, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well this pillow regulated temperature. The hexagonal cluster design definitely makes a difference to airflow. Unlike solid memory foam blocks that can trap heat, these individual pieces allow air to circulate freely.

The mesh inner bag and quilted outer cover also help with breathability. Most significantly, I never woke up with a hot, sweaty head; something that's happened to me with other memory foam pillows.

I paired the HoneyFoam pillow with a standard cotton pillowcase, and would recommend using a breathable pillowcase rather than anything too synthetic. Make sure your pillowcase fits properly too. I initially tried a slightly too-small case which compressed the clusters uncomfortably, but once I switched to a roomier one, the pillow could breathe and plump up beautifully.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: care and maintenance

The outer cover unzips completely for easy removal and machine washing at 40°C. I've washed this several times during the testing period, and it's still coming out of the wash fine. The inner mesh bag containing the foam clusters can't be washed, but it's protected by both the outer cover and your pillowcase, so it stays pretty clean.

The brand recommends regularly plumping the pillow to maintain its fullness. The zip design makes this easy: I could unzip and give the clusters a good shake-up to redistribute them evenly. After a month of use, the pillow still looks and feels as good as new, bouncing back to its full shape every morning.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: verdict

The Fine Bedding Company HoneyFoam Pillow delivers on its promise of personalised comfort. The adjustable cluster design isn't a gimmick; it's a practical innovation that lets you fine-tune your pillow to suit your needs.

At £99, it's not cheap for a single pillow. But you are getting a thoughtfully designed product from a company with genuine sustainability credentials. The ability to replace components rather than binning the whole pillow is brilliant, and the two-year guarantee provides peace of mind.

Overall, I think this is an excellent choice for anyone who's struggled to find their perfect pillow or who changes sleeping positions throughout the night. Side sleepers in particular will appreciate the adjustable height and softer feel, while back and front sleepers can customise it to their needs. Just bear in mind this leans towards medium even at full capacity, so it's not one for lovers of very firm pillows.

Fine Bedding Company Honeyfoam Pillow review: alternatives to consider

If adjustability is your priority but tend towards a firmer pillow overall, the Simba Hybrid Pillow offers a similar cluster-filled design with different firmness options. It's been around longer and has an established reputation, though it's similarly priced.

If you just want a solid, memory foam pillow with a firmer feel, the Panda Memory Foam Bamboo Pillow offers excellent support with a naturally hypoallergenic bamboo cover. It's not adjustable but provides a more uniform, firmer surface if that's what you prefer.

Alternatively, for those who want a feeling of plush comfort from your memory foam, the DreamCloud Pillow delivers, although again you won't get the adjustability that makes the HoneyFoam pillow so versatile.
