NAD L53/PSB B25
Swap your surround sound system for this mini gem.
If you don't mind a bit of compromise in life, then this joint effort from NAD and PSB could be the answer to your prayers. It's a two-channel system offering an approximation of surround sound, and for £650 you get a couple of meaty speakers and an impressively engineered DVD/receiver combi box.
The virtual surround sound isn't all that impressive, but the low-frequency effects can be boosted by plugging in a subwoofer. DVD picture quality is strong and basic stereo audio output is excellent. Throw in the AM/FM tuner, the added inputs and the WMA, MP3 and JPEG compatibility and you're left with a good system. But not a great surround sound substitute.
