How a first-time Olympic athlete prepares for Rio 2016

Hassan is the first-ever runner from South Sudan to compete in the Olympics

For any Olympian, representing your country at the world's most famous athletics competition is a nerve-racking and humbling experience. But perhaps it's even more so for Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan.

The 18-year-old has fought against all the odds to get in the position she is now and wants to make the 11 million people who live in South Sudan proud as the first ever runner from her country to make it to the Olympic games.

She's going to head out onto the track and compete against some of the very best athletes from around the world.

After being displaced from her family in the war with Sudan, Hassan was encouraged to compete in a race and discovered her talent for running.

She soon began training to hone her natural talents and managed to enter to compete in the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

She's nervous, but Hassan has trained for this very moment. Her country is behind her with their full support, and chanting her name while she races against competitors from all over the world.

Now the International Olympic Committee has recognised South Sudan as a competitor in the Olympic Games, and this is Hassan's time to shine.

To mentally prepare for the big race, Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan is using a pair of Samsung's brand new Icon X Earbud headphones.

Paired with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, this pairing will offers her the best in performance, which she needs at this crucial moment to ensure she gets the most focused music she needs to before her big race.

Samsung has been involved with the Olympics since the Seoul 1988 games right up until the Rio 2016 games. But the support doesn't stop there – Samsung is set to collaborate on the PyeongChang games in 2018 and Tokyo games in 2020.
