Microsoft’s takeover over Skype has been finalised, just over five months after the deal was officially announced. The new tie-up will see Skype become a division of the Big M, with Skype’s CEO Tony Bates staying on to head up the operation.

Bates, writing on Microsoft’s official blog, said, “By bringing together the best of Microsoft and the best of Skype, we’ll deliver amazing new experiences for consumers and business around the world.”

He added that, “This represents a huge leap forward in Skype’s mission to be the communications choice for a billion people every day.” In reality, things shouldn’t change too much for Skype customers, although you can expect deeper integration with Windows products.
