SodaStream Ensō review: a soda maker that blends style and function
How can I ever possibly go back?

The SodaStream Ensō is sleek, compact and lightweight, with a beautiful stainless steel finish. Setup is effortless thanks to the Quick Connect system, and whilst the included BPA-free bottle isn’t glass, it’s still practical and easy to clean. Performance-wise, it delivers consistently great results, and I now don't know what I'd do without it.

Why you can trust T3

Soda makers are one of those premium kitchen gadgets I only discovered fairly recently, but they’ve completely changed my life. As a big drinks fan – whether it’s a cheeky cocktail on a Friday night or a crisp Diet Coke with lunch – I genuinely can’t imagine my kitchen without one now.
Of course, SodaStream is the brand most people think of when it comes to soda makers, even if the competition has increased. So, when I had the chance to test out SodaStream’s latest addition, I wasn’t about to say no.
Designed by renowned Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, the SodaStream Ensō is all about minimalist beauty. It looks absolutely incredible on the countertop, but let’s take a closer look at what it’s like to actually use.
SodaStream Ensō review: price and availability
The Ensō has an RRP of £179.99/$189.99, though SodaStream’s online store offers three bundle packages with extras like syrups and additional gas cylinders. It’s also available at selected retailers, including Lakeland and Amazon.
The Ensō comes in both silver and black, so you can match it to your kitchen style.
SodaStream Ensō review: unboxing and set up
Like the rest of SodaStream’s lineup, the Ensō is refreshingly easy to set up. Inside the box you’ll find the machine, a carbonating bottle, lid, drip tray and a detailed booklet covering setup and maintenance.
The real win here is SodaStream’s Quick Connect system, which lets you slot in a gas cylinder without twisting. Only the newer SodaStream models have it, and it means setting up only takes a matter of minutes.

The included 1-litre bottle is BPA-free, dishwasher safe, and comes with a detachable base for easier cleaning – so it’s practical as well as hygienic. I wish SodaStream had gone with glass for a more premium touch, though I can see why plastic makes it safer.
SodaStream Ensō review: design and features
Measuring just 22.6 x 11.4 x 42.2cm, the Ensō is compact enough for most countertops, and the stainless steel finish gives it a premium look that I absolutely love.
I’d say it does show marks easily, but that’s not an issue for me since I’m always wiping things down anyways. If it bothers you, I’d definitely recommend picking up some of Method's Stainless Steel Cleaner.
It’s also impressively lightweight and completely cordless – even with a full gas cylinder inside – so it’s easy to pick up and move wherever you need it. This is probably one of my favourite things about soda makers in general, as it makes them far more convenient than you’d expect.
Each cylinder makes up to 60 litres of sparkling water, and SodaStream’s exchange programme means you can swap empties for discounted refills. It’s a clever way to keep costs down whilst also encouraging sustainability, which fits the eco-friendly ethos of the machine.
SodaStream Ensō review: performance
When it comes to performance, the Ensō has genuinely impressed me. I’ve been using it pretty much every day for the last two and a half weeks, and the gas cylinder still has plenty left in it, which really surprised me. I thought I’d have powered through it by now, but it’s holding up well.
I started off with plain sparkling water, then moved on to some of SodaStream’s syrups – including Peach Iced Tea, Red Berries and 7UP – and they've all been delicious. They taste just as good as the cans you’d buy in the supermarket, but I've found that there’s something more satisfying about making it yourself.
I also really like how straightforward the Ensō is to use. You just lock the bottle in place and secure it, and then press the button and decide for yourself how fizzy you want it. Personally, two presses has been enough for me, but I’ve been able to dial it down when making drinks for friends who prefer something a little gentler.
For me, it’s become one of those rare gadgets I reach for without even thinking about it – and that says a huge amount.
SodaStream Ensō review: verdict
After a few weeks with the SodaStream Ensō, I’m very impressed. It’s sleek, compact and lightweight enough to move around easily, with the stainless steel finish looking great in my kitchen. Setup is effortless thanks to the Quick Connect system, and whilst the included BPA-free bottle isn’t glass, it’s still practical and easy to clean. Performance-wise, it delivers consistently great results, and I’ve loved trying different flavoured syrups. Simple, stylish and reliable, it’s quickly become part of my daily routine.
SodaStream Ensō review: alternatives to consider
If you’re looking at alternatives, the Smeg Soda Maker is worth a mention, especially as it offers similar functionality with a strong focus on design.
The SodaStream E-Terra is another good shout if you like the idea of adjustable carbonation levels and LED lighting. However, I love the Ensō’s timeless stainless-steel finish and think it strikes the perfect balance between looks and practicality.
