Android nearing one billionth activation

Google boss reveals the company is seeing more than 1.5 million activations a day

Google has revealed that Android will soon see its one billionth activation.

Speaking during Google’s second quarter earnings call, chief executive Larry Page revealed that more than 1.5 million Android devices are activated daily.

The company announced revenues of $14 billion ($9.175bn) during the quarter.

Page echoed Steve Job’s belief that we now exist in a post PC market where consumers are shifting from laptops to mobile devices.

He described the trend as a “tremendous opportunity” for Google, revealing that more than 1.5 million Android devices are activated every day.

“That’s pretty amazing given the first Android phone launched less than five years ago,” he said.

In May, Google revealed that more than 900 million Android devices had been activated since it was released in 2008.
