The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the best phone I've ever used – and it's cheaper than ever right now

When it comes to the best phones you can buy, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is right at the top. It's a phone I've used extensively, and its snappy speeds, gorgeous design, and polished software make it the best Galaxy handset I've ever got my hands on – and I've been working in tech for over 20 years now.

What might put you off the Galaxy S26 Ultra is its price, which is very much flagship-level. There's a solution for that, though, because the 256GB model is now down to its lowest-ever price – a drop of more than a quarter, saving you several hundred dollars.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is a winner in so many ways: in design, in performance, in versatility, and in its photo- and video-taking capabilities. This 256GB model is available in four different colors, too, so there's lots of choice at the discounted price.

Don't forget, this phone only launched in January, so it's great to see it discounted so early. The price reduction applies across all four Galaxy S26 Ultra colors available on Amazon, which means you can choose the one that matches your style the closest – Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue, or White.

Besides that 256GB of storage, you also get 12GB of RAM, with the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset keeping everything running. The phone is fully waterproofed and dustproofed, with an IP68 rating, and you get a stunning 6.9-inch display and a quad-lens camera setup.

What makes the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra so good?

I've been using the Galaxy S26 Ultra for several months, and it shines in a number of areas. What hits you most immediately is the quality of the bright, high-resolution screen – though this shouldn't come as a surprise on a Samsung flagship.

The display makes everything from browsing photos to playing games look fantastic in front of your eyes. I also love the Privacy Display feature, which stops people who are behind you or to the side of you from seeing what's on your screen. It's something that may well become standard on phones in the near future.

It's worth emphasizing how fast and stutter-free everything is, and Galaxy AI keeps getting better and better too. It's now genuinely impressive how good the voice transcription and photo editing tools are. I find the S Pen stylus inclusion really handy too, for making some photo edits or taking hand-written notes on screen.

Finally, a word on the camera: the quad-lens array – which has a 200-megapixel sensor at its best – offers up to 5x optical zoom, plus an ultrawide mode, and photos and videos come out looking superb (even if you're at the same beginner level I am at framing them – but there's a horizon correction feature to help with that).

In short: it's an incredible phone that's now cheaper than ever. Just one of a number of Amazon Prime Day deals that might tempt you this week.
