Your Ring video doorbell can now greet visitors with personalised responses, thanks to Alexa+
Amazon has upgraded its Ring doorbells with Alexa+ Greetings feature
QUICK SUMMARY
Amazon has introduced Alexa+ Greetings to its Ring video doorbells.
Currently available in the US and Canada, and on select Ring devices, Alexa+ uses AI to recognise who’s at your door and give them a personalised response.
If you have a Ring video doorbell, you just got a great Alexa+ upgrade that makes greeting your guests much more personal. Dubbed as Alexa+ Greetings, the new feature uses Amazon AI to recognise the person at your door and respond personally based on the conversation.
Alexa+ was announced earlier this year, and it’s currently only available in the US. The same can be said for this new upgrade, because as of writing, this new Greetings feature is only being rolled out to customers in the US and Canada who are signed up for Alexa+ Early Access.
So, what does Alexa+ Greetings do? Select Ring video doorbells now use a combination of Alexa+ and Ring Video Descriptions to greet guests and other visitors at your door. An advancement on Ring’s Smart Responses, the new Alexa+ Greetings use AI to determine who’s at your door based on their actions and what they’re wearing or holding.
From there, Alexa+ uses this information and the responses from the visitors to respond accordingly, personally and in a more conversational manner. Amazon has given a few examples of how this works. If Alexa+ detects a delivery person with a package, your Ring video doorbell can now respond by asking them to put the parcel in a specific place.
Another example is if a friend drops by while you’re out or busy, your Ring doorbell can tell them that you’re unavailable and to leave a message. Alexa+ Greetings can also respond to follow-up questions if needed. This can all be set up and further personalised in the Ring app via the AI Features tab.
This feature is definitely a big improvement on Ring’s current responses and it’ll be interesting to see how well it works in practice. As mentioned, Alexa+ Greetings is currently only available in the US and Canada, and is only available for specific devices, including the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) and the Ring Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen). You’ll also need a Ring subscription.
