Virgin Media signs up TiVo as exclusive interface supplier

Now UK can join in on the TiVo fun

You've no doubt heard of TiVo, which swept America a few years back and has become a staple in most households, allowing TV shows to be recorded, much in the same way Sky+ works. Virgin Media has today announced it's signed up TiVo for supplying a new "converged television and broadband interactive interface" which should help them continue fighting Sky in the quest for household TV dominance.

In a mutual partnership, Virgin Media will be the sole UK distributor of TiVo products and services, and TiVo will be the exclusive provider of the user interface for Virgin Media's service. The CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, commented that "TiVo's proven track record of innovation, strength of its patented technology and experience in developing best in class user environments, make it an ideal strategic partner for Virgin Media as we move aggressively to bring our next generation TV service to market."

Tom Rogers, the President and CEO of TiVo, said that "We are very excited about this new distribution relationship with the UK's most advanced pay television provider and are particularly proud to have been selected as Virgin Media's core software partner for its next generation DVR-enabled set top boxes and its next generation non-DVR set top boxes."

The TiVo-supplied user interface will be rolled out in 2010 for all Virgin Media customers.
