According to Microsoft, anyone trading in an iPad will get a minimum $200 (£127) gift card to be put towards the purchase of a Microsoft Surface tablet. The offer is only currently available to US customers.
Microsoft is widely believed to be preparing to launch a new version of its Surface tablet on September 23rd.
The programme is outlined on Microsoft’s website. It explains that you can trade in your “gently used” iPad 2, 3 or 4 between September 5th and October 27th.
It does not currently plan to extend the service to the UK.
Few details have emerged about the rumoured Surface 2 tablet, other than it will feature technology from Nvidia.
The launch will come less than a month after it announced plans to buy Nokia’s mobile phone division.
Nokia itself is expected to announce a new Windows RT-powered tablet later this month. It is unknown if it is one and the same tablet.
