Honor has plans to join the wide folding trend, with the launch of a device of its own. This was first suggested early in 2026, but that rumour has returned – and now has some specs attached to it.
Key to these specs is the suggestion that the battery will exceed 7,000mAh, which is huge for a folding phone – and something that Honor seems to be especially good at.
The Honor Magic V6 has a 6,660mAh battery which is huge compared to the 4,400mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Honor will likely use silicon-carbon tech to achieve this and likely offer faster charging in its device too.
Honor's challenge to the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been revealed thanks to Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The timing is convenient as Samsung has just confirmed its 22 July launch event for its new folding phones.
It's not just the battery that the leaker is sharing, it's also suggested that it will be a 2nm device, which is interesting. It might use Exynos 2600 but it's unlikely; it might use Dimensity 9600 or it could be one of the launch devices for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Both the latter chips are expected to be announced in September 2026.
Moving on, it's suggested that Honor's phone will have a 7.6-inch internal display and 5.5-inch cover display. It's the 5.5-inch screen that's a giveaway here, as the Magic V6 uses a regular aspect is 6.52 inches. So Honor's next foldable is shorter and wider.
We're told that there's a change to the camera layout with a "runway design", with a 200-megapixel main camera as well as a periscope telephoto.
This all points to Honor lining up a wide folding phone that's designed to be the absolute premium: while Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to slot in under the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and be more affordable, it will sacrifice some hardware in the process., handing the advantage to Honor.
In our recent review of the Honor Magic V6, we praised this phone's endurance, its excellent displays and the zoom camera. Honor's challenge is in software, presenting something that can rival the consistency of One UI, while Samsung's industrial design also shines through.
Honor will no doubt have Apple in the back of its mind too: while the iPhone Ultra is expected to make its debut in September 2026, it could be that Honor has its own maxed-out device looking to assert its dominance on the segment.
