Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: the perfect blend of sound and light

Whilst smart lighting is known for being the best way to create ambience within the home, it doesn't always mean people are adventurous when it comes to their product choices. Opting for the best smart bulbs is often the more subtle option, but what about RGB floor lamps?

Only last month, Govee challenged mainstream smart lighting trends by launching the Floor Lamp 2 and Floor Lamp Pro. Both lamps enter the industry as direct competitors to the Philips Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp, and whilst Govee is already known for its Lyra RGBICWW Corner Floor Lamp, the two new models are newer and improved versions. 

To explore the new launch further, I decided to try out the new Govee Floor Lamp Pro. As Govee's first smart light with integrated sound, there's a lot of pressure for the lamp to perform well. Keep reading to find out if it does, and whether it's a worthy investment.

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: price and availability 

The Govee Floor Lamp Pro has an RRP of £219.99 and can be purchased from Govee's website or Amazon. 

It comes in black or grey, and I've been reviewing the grey. Whilst these are the only two colours available, it gives buyers the choice between a lighter or darker aesthetic, which is suitable for most homes. 

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: unboxing and set up

My unboxing experience will be a little different to yours as I received the Govee Floor Lamp Pro already constructed. However, I've gone through the assembly process in detail, and can assure you it's not difficult to follow.

As the box suggests, the lamp comes in separate pieces that need to be joined and screwed together. You then fit the silicone light strip and fix the rod into the base, all of which takes around 10 minutes. 

The box also included the remote control, an attachable magnet for the remote control, a screwdriver, user manual and a quick start guide.

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: design and features

The Govee Floor Lamp Pro has an array of features that makes it an extremely impressive smart lighting product. To begin, it has an advanced LED arrangement, equipped with 324 colour and white light beads. These reach an impressive brightness of 2100 lumens and a wide colour temperature range, ensuring comprehensive coverage and seamless gradients. A lot of smart lights aren't able to provide even 1000 lumens, so 2100 is incredible to see. 

One other feature I liked is that the 1.5 metre light bar can rotate, allowing you to position the light in any direction without having the move the entire lamp. For example, I hosted a dinner party one evening where I angled the light bar towards the dining room table. Once we moved to the living room after dessert, I could then position it in the other direction where we were sitting. It was great! 

Another standout feature is the integrated Bluetooth speaker, which is able to sync sound with light to create an ambient atmosphere without noise distinction. 

There are also multiple ways to control the lamp, ranging from the remote control (which can magnetically stick to the lamp’s metal rod) to the Govee app. Users can even control it via voice control, but it unfortunately isn't Matter-compatible. This is probably the only thing that disappointed me about the Govee Floor Lamp Pro, especially as a number of Govee's other models are Matter-compatible. That being said, the lamp can be controlled via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, so you won't need to worry if you use these ecosystems instead of others.

The Govee app also offers an impressive mix of over 80 preset scene modes alongside user customisable DIY modes, allowing users full control over how they use their lighting and for what purpose. 

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: performance

I knew I'd be impressed at the high lumen output of the Govee Floor Lamp Pro, and I was glad to find out I wasn't wrong. It's powerful enough to fully light up a dark room, perfect for setting the mood for any occasion. The LED beads also means there's no break in the light bar, giving a seamless flow of colours without any interruption. 

Saying that, the thing that impressed me the most was the Floor Lamp Pro's ability to sync its lights to music. I was able to choose from using the built-in mic to pick up surrounding sounds, or stream my own songs via the built-in speaker. All of this can be controlled via one of Govee's customisable DIY modes, Music Mode. Music Mode also lets you pick from a large number of sounds and relaxation melodies to sync up to the lights, perfect if you prefer something a little calmer or would like the use the lamp for meditating. 

Whilst the Bluetooth speaker didn't blow my head off, it was high-quality enough for playing a range of songs and sounds. Controlling the lamp was also simple, and I loved having the choice of the remote control for when I didn't want to pick my phone up. 

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: verdict

Despite the Floor Lamp Pro being Govee's first smart light with integrated sound, the brand has done an incredible job with the product's design and performance. The Floor Lamp Pro's advanced LED arrangement provides a vast array of lighting effects, and the integrated Bluetooth speaker is able to seamlessly sync sound with light to create an ambient atmosphere. It's a shame the lamp isn't Matter-compatible just yet, but its alternative control methods perform exceptionally well anyways. This is a stylish and dynamic addition to anyone's smart home, and I couldn't recommend it enough.

Govee Floor Lamp Pro review: alternatives to consider

The obvious alternative to consider would be the Philips Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp. Just like the Govee model, it's a statement, colour-changing smart lamp with plenty of versatility included. It also isn't too dissimilar price wise, but many of our reviewers have said they prefer the Philips Hue platform overall. 

Another alternative would be the IKEA PILSKOTT LED Floor Lamp. Its look is a little different to the Govee Floor Lamp Pro, but it's a great choice if you're after a bended LED floor lamp that creates dynamic light effects. It's also only available in black, but for £90, it's not bad at all.
