Like any good appliance, the best dishwashers are the ones you don’t really notice. Get the job done, do it quickly and quietly, without any need to rewash, and everybody is happy. Hisense’s flagship freestanding dishwasher, the Hi9, takes that principle and runs with it. It also adds a world of connected features to remove the guesswork out of your cleaning, whether you’re home or away.

As a freestanding 60cm dishwasher, the Hi9 can be placed easily in just about any kitchen. It’s a sleek-looking grey unit with a colour touchscreen display and WiFi connectivity for use through the Hisense ConnectLife app.

In addition to the connectivity, the Hi9 offers an AI Super Wash mode, auto-dosing, and a smart dry system to ensure all of your dishes, glassware and plastic are dry and ready to put away faster.

I’ve spent the last two months using the Hi9 and was surprised just how many of its added features actually came in handy for day-to-day use.

How much is the Hisense Hi9 dishwasher?

The Hisense Hi9 HS693A90ADBX (to give it its full name) has a list price of £999 but currently sells for around £899 at most online retailers. It was released in 2026 as part of its latest smart home lineup and is currently the flagship dishwasher in the range.

Features and design

Finished in a silvery grey, the Hi9 has a modern design that suits most kitchens. A fascia panel appears blank and understated until the dishwasher is turned on, where it reveals a 6.86-inch icon-based touchscreen display, providing all the controls.

Inside, the three baskets are designed to hold up to 16 place settings, with a dedicated cutlery tray at the very top, saving that annoying standing basket used by most machines. The upper basket can be raised and lowered to provide extra height for items if needed, and there are adjustable supports to hold plates and glasses in place. There’s even a fold-out bottle holder in the bottom tray.

In addition to the regular detergent tablet compartment, the Hi9 offers an auto-dosing detergent gel, which can be filled for up to 20 washes. This then uses the right amount depending on the chosen wash cycle.

There are 10 main washing cycles, selectable from the touchscreen, including an intensive wash, eco wash, glass wash and a 30 min quick wash. The interesting one, though, is the AI super wash. This automatically adjusts the length of washing time, temperature and detergent use to the amount of dirt on the dishes.

You can also make adjustments to some of the washing cycles, including a speed wash to shorten the wash time, upper and lower spray arm use to clean from just one direction, and the smart dry function. This is a fan-assisted drying system, which opens the door at the end of the cycle and circulates air to dry your dishes faster. You can also delay the wash to run at a later time.

Connected washing

Like all Hisense connected smart home products, the Hi9 dishwasher uses the ConnectLife app to provide remote operation over WiFi. Once connected, from the app (available for Android and iOS), you can select your wash cycle, set a time delay or even engage an autostart to automatically turn your machine on for washing at a set time on selected days of the week.

You can check the energy monitor to see how much electricity and water your machine is using each week, month or year. Within the settings, you can also adjust your water hardness, switch between tablet and detergent use and even use the tablet counter. The tablet counter has to be one of my favourite unexpected features here, as you can tell it how many washing tablets you have, and then it will count down each time you do a wash and notify you when you’re running low.

Once your wash programme has started, you can check the progress on the app, giving you a countdown timer and a precise finish time. On the iPhone, it also gives you smart notifications on the lock screen for the time left and finish time.

Day-to-day use

Loading the dishes, I found the Hi9 to be pretty spacious and the racking system gives plenty of support options for a range of dishes. Once you add in pans, you could easily fill the machine each day with just a couple’s breakfast, lunch and dinner, but that’s the case for any dishwasher. If you wash your pans separately, there’s tons of space.

To turn the dishwasher on, you need to hold the power button for three seconds, and I found that, as the button is on a flush touchscreen display, it’s easy not to press it fully and so you need to try again. You then need to wait a few seconds for the screen to come alive before you can select your programme and start the wash. That’s a much longer process than on a more manual unit where you simply switch on and hit go.

The upside, of course, is the number of options available here. You can even select your favourite programmes so only they appear on the main menu, making selection easier.

Though I often used the intensive setting when the machine was very full, I found the AI wash setting to be pretty effective. Wash times were generally slightly shorter than the intensive option, and both dishes and glasses came out clean.

As with washing machines, the remaining time given on the Hi9 dishwasher can change a little during the process, so often the cycle can take a little longer than originally expected – especially on the AI cycle.

I did find that particularly dirty cutlery didn’t always clean properly in the top cutlery tray, so some rinsing was needed. However, items in the bottom and middle trays cleaned well, provided there was enough space around them for the water jets.

Should I buy the Hisense Hi9?

Considering the features on the Hisense Hi9, such as WiFi connectivity, touchscreen display and auto-dry, it’s very competitively priced. It delivers impressive cleaning with a wide variety of cleaning modes and a very competent AI Wash mode.

While the app control isn’t life-changing as a feature for a dishwasher, it can be handy to change the settings, and it does give you helpful warnings when the cleaning has finished – and when you’re running low on dishwasher tablets.

The touchscreen display is a nice touch here, and makes selecting your programme look especially stylish. However, I would have loved a faster boot-up time, and an easier-to-press power button to save you time when setting the dishwasher to clean.
