3 goes free with unlimited mobile Skype calls

Who needs a contract deal?

Most of the networks are running scared of Skype, with the notable exception of 3, which isn't just tolerating VoIP calls, it is positively embracing them.

Indeed, from 1st May, 3 is offering unlimited Skype to all its customers. Just pick up a Skype-friendly handset from the network and you can chat and message for as long as you like, exchanging gossip and banter to friends and family overseas without paying a penny for the privilege.

It's not just a deal for 3 customers either. If you fancy some 'all you can eat' Skype to cut back on your current mobile (and home phone) bill, 3 is offering that very thing this summer. Just buy a 3 sim for a paltry £1.99 for a compatible unlocked handset, download the Skype client and you'll be chatting to Uncle Bruce in Australia in minutes, staying on for as many hours as you like. Or until your battery gives up the ghost.

3 also plans to roll out a range of cut-price, Skype-compatible handsets in the coming months, all of which should be fairly popular in the midst of a credit crunch. They should also serve to antagonise the other networks still further, so don't be surprised to see a couple of Skype-friendly moves from the big boys over the summer in response.
