There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the Honor 10 launch date, and Honor has already launched a new device in China which might prove some clues. After the latest Honor update and a number of leaks online, we're 90% sure the Honor 10 will be launched on May 15 in London.
What to expect?
We now know for sure that Honor is releasing a device on May 15 in London and all signs are pointing to the Honor 10.
This is because Honor added to eons of hype and online speculation last month with a GIF invite to a launch event. Besides the date and location, and the enigmatic caption ‘Beauty in AI’, two details stand out.
The GIF revealed a shutter icon that opened with the letters 'AI'. From this, we can assume that Honor will unveil a flagship smartphone for 2018 with an AI-powered camera. How exciting!
The second detail is what we believe could be a hint to the smartphone’s design. The GIF features a transparent, minimalist glass-like phone case that reflects a sort of dusky, pinkish and purplish London skyline. Based on other things we’ve learned, we are expecting the device will have a sleek glass design that catches the eye.
Leaked color design
There’s been a lot of speculation online about what to expect and things have really taken off since Honor launched the Glory 10 in China last month.
According to a leak on the German website Winfuture Honor’s latest phone will be available in several different colors, black, teal and a special shade of blue that, depending on how you look at it, might glow or change color into a pink (like in the invite above).
AI camera leak
An email leaked to an XDA developer also supports our hunch about the AI-powered camera. An XDA Senior Member known as duraraa summarized information he received about “the killer feature of the upcoming phone”…
“Honor will be introducing semantic image segmentation mode. Similarly to the Mate 10 series, it can detect scenes like pets, snow, beach, and so on, and apply filters for each situation, but with the new camera tech, it can detect multiple scenes within the same image and apply precise multiple filters simultaneously.
“The new technology can pinpoint the outlines of objects like the sky, plans, humans, water, etc., in an image, identifying their locations, and apply the appropriate filters.”
From this, it’s pretty much certain the new Honor 10 will significantly up your photography and Insta game. This is a ground-breaking new technology that could represent the next phase of smartphone AI.
If the rumors around the camera are true then this budget phone could be the one to beat for 2018.
If we look at the Glory 10, we can guess the Honor 10 will have a 5.8-inch screen with a 2240 x 1080 pixel resolution, the Kirin 970 processor and Android 8.1 Oreo.
The performance of the AI camera remains a mystery though. We can only guess there is something else in the back end that supports the chipset with this highly advanced AI capability.
The price of Honor’s new flagship phone has not been stated anywhere thus far. What we do know is that it will probably cost a little more than previous phones at around 400 GBP. It would be unusual for a phone that is packed full of surprises to cost anything less.
Looking back to the launch of the Honor 9, it’s likely the Honor 10 will be available online immediately after the launch.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
