With Amazon Prime Day fast approaching, not for the first time we find ourselves pondering, 'Why does Amazon bother with having a deals 'Day' when it randomly cuts prices all the time?' Right now, for instance, you can have yourself an Ultimate Ears Wonderboom waterproof, portable speaker for very nearly half price. It's 46% off, if we're splitting hairs.
There are some price cuts on the approximately 900 other Wonderboom colour options sold at Amazon, but Phantom Black is the colour, if you want the best deal. If you're after a bigger Bluetooth speaker in a similar vein, Argos currently has a mad £160 off JBL Xtreme 2. It's a similarly party-starting, waterproof (although Argos neglects to mention that) and portable speaker.
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom | £48.54 | Was £89.99 | Save 46%
Why is this so cheap? Because the new Wonderboom 2 is out (and tops our Portable speakers Top 10). However, version 2 of the Wonderboom is actually quite a minor upgrade. It's almost twice this price but certainly not twice as good. With 10+ hours of battery, IPX7 waterproofing (and it floats) and massive, 360º sound relative to its hand-grenade-esque size and shape, Wonderboom is still the second best portable speaker you can buy, after Wonderboom 2.View Deal
With long Bluetooth range, compact size, full waterproofing and the option to pair two for double the volume, Wonderboom is the perfect portable speaker. It only lacks a few features of Wonderboom 2. There's no dust/sand-proofing, no 'Outdoor Boost' button – though that's not much use anyway – and you can't pair two in stereo – again, of questionable usefulness outdoors – but looks, battery, build and audio quality remain excellent for the prize and size.
