T3's Editor-in-Chief Mat Gallagher joined Suzy and Jason to discuss the new phones and whether the Duo lives up to the hype.

They also picked out highlights from T3's Best of IFA Awards, given to the best products at this year's IFA show in Berlin, including the Plaud One, Hypershell Halo and Harry Potter Chess.

The Gadget Show launched in 2004 on Channel 5 in the UK and has delivered previews and reviews of the latest gadgets since.

With a range of presenters and formats over the years, the new podcast sees the return of the original duo Jason Bradbury and Suzi Perry in a weekly episode, hosted on its YouTube channel.

It's worth subscribing and liking their weekly videos – and, of course, returning to T3.com to see other members of the team talk over the latest tech with The Gadget Show team.

If you're looking for an iconic seventies horror movie to adapt, they don't much better than Carrie. Telling a story straight from the inventive, sometimes twisted mind of Stephen King, the 1976 movie is deeply influential, and some of its imagery is seared into the minds of whole generations of movie-watchers.

Now, though, Amazon Prime Video is adapting the same story and bringing it roaring into the 2020s, with Mike Flanagan (perhaps the safest pair of hands in horror right now) running the show. We have a full trailer to digest at last, and the show's now just a few weeks away – it'll premiere on 7 October.

The trailer is quite an exciting one, because it pulls back the curtain on how Flanagan has updated Carrie's story for 2026, with the behaviour of her fellow teenagers taking centre stage. Where pranks and bullying used to be generally done in-person, we all know that social media is now where much of the rot can set in for schoolkids.

True to that impression, Flanagan has turned some of Carrie's new classmates into very modern demons, as they film her every move, instantly sensing weakness in the odd, home-schooled girl. We see glimpses of Instagram posts that look extremely unpleasant, but it's also clear that the show might differ from the movie in another way.

That 1976 film rightly has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes to underline it status, but it doesn't go on for hugely long after the climactic prom night prank that so many people remember. This show might extend longer – we see quite a few glimpses of Carrie exploring her powers, and also a fair few moments that seem like they probably happen after she's victimised for the last time.

Whether that's me reaching or not, I'm hopeful that this could be a big hit for Prime Video – at a time when Netflix has frankly been the monarch of horror in the streaming world for quite some time. Flanagan working with Prime Video could be a big shakeup on that front, but we'll get a better sense when the show debuts in early October.

Panerai has one of the longest histories within watch manufacturing, with roots dating back to the 1860s. Today, Panerai is celebrating its 100th year anniversary of its Piazza San Giovanni Boutique in Florence by launching two limited edition Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni watches.

Panerai's new Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni timepieces are inspired by its iconic Luminor ref. 6152/1. 100 years later, these new watches have similar features, including military accents, but have been given a smaller case size and a new movement which is much longer lasting than its predecessor.

The two versions of the Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni are the PAM01734 and PAM01794. Both are almost identical, except they have different case materials and dial colours. The cases have been shrunk from the original 47mm down to 44mm, and they keep the cushion-shaped case with the oversized crown and protective bridge.

Where the PAM01734 differs from the PAM01794 is its crown bridge has parallel grooves cut into the inner sides that face the crown. The PAM01734 also has a case made from Platinumtech, an alloy made from 95% pure platinum, making it more scratch resistant, while the PAM01794 has a steel case.

The easiest way to tell the difference between the two Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni are the dial colours. Both dials have a brass base, cut-out numerals and hour markers, and pencil hands with Super-LumiNova for legibility. Where the PAM01734 has a green dial, the PAM01794 has a black dial.

The casebacks of the watches are slightly different too. The PAM01734 has an open sapphire caseback which shows off its movement and 100 metre water resistance, while the PAM01794 has a closed caseback and is water resistant to 300 metres.

Both Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni watches are powered by the hand-wound P.5000 movement. The movement has a 4.5mm thickness, and is made of 21 jewels, a balance wheel and is enclosed between two broad plates. Despite being hand wound, the Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni has an impressive eight-day power reserve.

To finish the Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni, and give it a more vintage-inspired look, the PAM01734 has a black leather or green rubber strap, while the PAM01794 has a brown leather or black rubber strap.

Available in boutiques from September 2026, the green Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni is limited to just 100 pieces, while the black Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01794 is limited to 1,000 pieces. Pricing hasn’t been released, but you’ll need to be quick if you want to get your hands on the new Panerai Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni.

Apple introduced variable aperture as the highlight feature of the new iPhone 18 Pro, underlining that the camera is still a hugely important part of a smartphone. You don't need to tell Honor that though, as it has started teasing its next flagship phone with some new camera features of its own.

Introducing the Magic 9 Pro Max, which is due to be officially launched on 28 September in China, Honor is leaning into its partnership with Arri – a veteran of the cinema industry. Its camera systems were used for films like The Revenant, 1917, Gravity, and more.

The pairing first came to light with the development of Honor's Robot Phone, but it seems that Arri's experience will also benefit the 2027 flagship phone too.

The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max was shown off at the Venice International Film Festival, with Arri branding on the back of the device in the camera array, while it has also been teased on Weibo.

Although the phone physically has adopted the rear segmentation that was ushered in for the iPhone 17 Pro, using a separate rear panel and huge camera island, the layout of the camera's lenses seems to have drawn inspiration from an old Arriflex camera.

The result is a massive round blob of camera sitting next to two other lenses. It's bold, but I have to say I kind of like it. Looking closer, it seems that much of that larger surround is just there to decorate the telephoto.

From the video on Weibo we learn a little more about Honor's accessories for this camera, with what looks like a clip on cover to support a larger telephoto extension – the sort of thing we've seen from Vivo with the X300 Ultra or the Oppo Find X9 Pro.

We know that the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max will have three cameras developed with Arri, and what it looks like. And we also know there will be a fetching green colour. That's about the end of the official information that we currently have.

So let's move onto speculation: the timing of the launch suggests that it will be equipped with Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon hardware, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 – or the rumoured "pro" version of the chip that might also appear.

That hardware is expected later in September and typically Chinese brands immediately announce new phones using it straight after launch.

A wider global launch is likely to follow, probably around February 2027.

An additional leak from Digital Chat Station suggests that the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max has an 8,800mAh battery, which is absolutely huge.

Elsewhere, a video of the new phone has also been shared, which appears to be official, showing the design a little more, while there seem to be plenty sharing the design online already, likely part of Honor's teaser campaign.

Included around the lenses of the camera, it's revealed that there's a 200-megapixel cam, with a 1/1.28in type sensor and 3 degrees of OIS, while it also says there will be a 200-megapixel, 1/1.4in sensor with 4 degrees OIS – it's not clear which cameras the details apply to, but it's likely to be the main and the telephoto.

All will be revealed on 28 September, but it looks like the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is going to be a serious phone. Especially for fans of photography.

A morning cup of tea or coffee is a staple of many people’s morning routines. But if (like me) it takes a lot to get you out of bed in the morning, the Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle will make your morning cuppa a lot quicker and easier, thanks to its Alexa compatibility.

One of the last things I expected to be upgraded with smart technology was the humble kettle. But smart kettles have been on the rise in the past few years, as you can remotely control them using an app or your voice, so you can have boiling water at the ready for when you finally get out of bed for your morning brew.

Morphy Richards is the latest manufacturer to join the smart kettle party with the recent launch of its new Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle. It can connect to your Alexa app or Echo smart speaker, so you can ask Alexa to boil the kettle, schedule timings and adjust the temperature.

The Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle looks like an ordinary kettle for all intents and purposes. It has a matt black colour with a 360° cordless base, but where it differs is its LED touchscreen display which you can manually adjust and check your boil’s progress.

With six temperature settings to choose from, the Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle can be boiled between 40°C and 100°C, depending on the drink you’re making. It has a generous 1.5-litre capacity, and a digital water level indicator which shows you how much water you have in the kettle.

But as a smart kettle, the best part of the Morphy Richards Halo 1.5L Alexa Kettle is its smart controls. Being able to say “Alexa, boil the kettle” is a game changer, especially if you want to save yourself time waiting around – a watched pot never boils, after all!

Govee has barely finished showing off its latest smart home products at IFA 2026, and another one has already leaked. The Govee Outdoor Classic Wall Light has appeared in a new CSA listing, revealing that the upcoming outdoor light will support Matter.

The Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro was the brand's only outdoor product at last week's launch, so it's nice to see Govee already has another outdoor light on the way. The new Outdoor Classic Wall Light will also join Govee's existing outdoor lighting range, including the Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light, which arrived late last year,

As usual with these database leaks, there's no word on pricing or availability just yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear more.

The CSA listing describes the new light as being designed for installation on an outdoor porch, and it looks set to offer a mix of white and coloured lighting effects. As you'd expect from Govee, users should also be able to customise the lighting through the Govee Home app.

The listing confirms support for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as Matter 1.5, although there are still plenty of details we don't know. There's no image to view, nor any information on the light's brightness, design or exact dimensions, so we'll have to wait for a proper launch to find out more.

Motorola could be the next brand to release a wider folding phone, looking to quickly shift its strategy from flip to fold.

It launched its first book-type folding phone in 2026, the Motorola Razr Fold, having first re-entered the folding phone phone market in 2019 with the rebirth of its iconic Razr line.

While Samsung has led the charge in larger format devices, Motorola has been reluctant to move from flip to fold – and has seen success with its Razr models in some markets, particularly the US.

But as Apple has just announced the iPhone Duo, its £2,000 folding phone, Motorola hasn't missed the chance to point out that it's been in the folding phone game for a long time, and highlight its "next move".

Posting on social channels, the brand has run with the tagline "New in their hands. Iconic in ours", leading with the V3 Razr from 2004, before jumping to the 2019 version and then through iterations of the flip phone until the 2026 Razr Fold.

At that point something interesting happens, because a silhouette of a device appears which is a fold style, but shorter, looking like an obvious tease for Motorola's next folding phone.

With Apple joining the folding phone market, it's likely that everyone in the folding phone segment will adopt the format.

Samsung launched its wider folding phone in July 2026 – the Galaxy Z Fold 8 – while Huawei was there slightly earlier with the Pura X, and Xiaomi is also entering the fray with the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

Motorola, having just made the transition to a larger folding device, doesn't want to be left behind.

Samsung currently dominates the global market for folding phones with a 40% share, according to recent Counterpoint research. Huawei – thanks to its profile in China – took 30% of the share in 2025, Motorola, Honor and Google all had a slice of the pie.

It's expected that Apple's entry into the folding phone market will not only drive a lot of attention to folding phones, but reinforce the advantages of a wider device, rather than the larger-format devices that open with an almost square display.

With expansion expected across the segment, brands will want to make sure they have an iPhone Duo alternative to benefit from the wave of enthusiasm that's likely to come.

It's not clear when Motorola might launch this new phone. Typical launch windows – like Lenovo Innovation World that just took place in Berlin – have passed. It's likely then that Motorola will cast its eye on CES 2027.

In 2026, Motorola showcased the new Signature and Fold models in Las Vegas, before releasing them a few months later.

Developed in collaboration with Ecovacs, Bosch has launched its new Built-In Vacuum and Mop Robot, designed to integrate both the robot and its docking station directly into kitchen cabinetry.

The system is designed to fit in or next to a sink base cabinet and can be installed by a trained kitchen installer. Bosch says it's being introduced across more than 400 independent kitchen retailers in the UK and Ireland.

The built-in model is part of Bosch's new UK robot vacuum range, which also includes standalone models for anyone who doesn't want an integrated option. Bosch hasn't officially announced a price for the built-in model yet, although it's currently listed by Wellingtons Electrical for £2,790 (around $3,777), so that gives us a rough idea of what to expect.

This isn't the first built-in robot vacuum we've seen, but it's one of the more notable examples to actually reach mainstream retail. LG also launched a robot vacuum with a built-in station last year, although it still isn't available to buy.

Once it's finished cleaning, the Bosch robot automatically returns to its station, where it empties its dust box, cleans and dries its mopping pads, and recharges. The station connects directly to fresh water, wastewater and power, and can wash the mops with 75°C hot water and dry them with 45°C hot air. It also dispenses floor-cleaning detergent and cleans the station itself.

It features 20,000Pa of suction power, making it Bosch's most powerful robot vacuum to date. At just 84mm high, it's designed to get underneath furniture and into trickier areas, whilst it can also cross barriers of up to 20mm, including door thresholds.

You can control the robot through the Home Connect app, with options to adjust floor plans, create no-go zones and set cleaning routines. It also supports multi-floor mapping across up to three floors.

I've always been a massive fan of rhythm games over the years, kickstarted mainly by a 90s infatuation with PaRappa the Rapper. So when the Guitar Hero and Rock Band phase kicked off in the mid-2000s, I was really in my element.

I even have my original and special edition guitars, still.

However, like most gaming trends, it was bound to trail off eventually, and while Activision had a second stab at it in 2015, the days of wanging around a truncated plastic axe were over. Until now.

It seems we are about to enter a new era of physical gaming. The free, open source PC game Clone Hero is gaining traction and this December, a brand new release will arrive for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 to get you rocking again.

Stage Tour is a bone fide successor to the guitar and band games of the 2000s. Indeed, it's from RedOctane Games – the team behind the original Guitar Hero – and the heritage is right there on the screen and in your hands.

I got to play a few tracks during Gamescom a couple of weeks ago and can safely say that, even on an early build, it has all the hallmarks of an excellent revival for the genre.

I chose to play using the Kramer wireless guitar controller that comes bundled with the game, but was told that you can also use older Guitar Hero and Rock Band alternatives if you can connect them to your system. That should be easy on PC, maybe not so much on PS5, say.

There will be additional compatible controllers too, made by CRKD (the accessory manufacturer behind the Switch Nitro Deck). They're licensed by Gibson too, and have different designs depending on your system.

And that's not all... Stage Tour also works with drums, and the official kit to be released was in my demo as well. It can even come with symbols, and thanks to a modular design, you can replace any element if it wears out.

But I digress – I'm useless on the drums (always have been), so I stuck to what I remembered most fondly and strummed along to Smash Mouth's All Star like it was the noughties all over again.

Needless to say, I was rusty. Choosing a medium level was foolhardy for my first such play in over a decade, and I soon remembered how difficult it can be to whip my fingers across four fret buttons (let alone the five on offer). One thing I noticed though, that was markedly different this time around, is that the trademark latency and lag of yesteryear has seemingly vanished.

TVs and wireless technologies have dramatically improved in just a few years, let along 20 or so. The game therefore felt significantly more responsive. I was still rubbish, but I couldn't blame my tools anymore.

Also impressive was that you can play the game using a conventional gamepad, too. So if you have friends over but just one guitar, you can still play multiplayer. Not that it's any easier – or as much fun – but it does work effectively.

I didn't get to see many of the game modes that are promised for launch, including the single-player campaign, but there's certainly a lot of hindsight being employed in the development of Stage Tour. It will seemingly be packed with so much content, I can see it appealing for a long while.

And there's no Guitar Hero Live subscription element, hurrah! You get scores of tracks available at launch – with 48 already announced and many more to come. There's also something for everyone, from the recently revealed Parklife by Blur, through the pop of Olivia Rodrigo's Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl and Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits, all the way to classic rock from the likes of Def Leppard and Metallica.

From what I've seen so far, Stage Tour is packed with potential and, most importantly, fun. It will be interesting to see if the modern gamer is willing once more to pick up a plastic accessory and wiggle around in front of the telly, but one thing's for sure – from my brief demo play – the joy while doing so is thoroughly rewarding.

Stage Tour will be available from 10 December 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. You will be able to buy the game separately or with a guitar bundle from multiple retailers.

Orient marks a serious first with its latest release. Debuting five versions of its Mako GMT watches, the new models are the first time Orient has introduced a dual time zone function to its Mako collection.

With its new Mako GMT timepieces, Orient has combined its dive watch design with a GMT function, allowing the watch to display two different time zones simultaneously. To do this, the Orient Mako GMT has both a standard hour hand and an additional hour hand that completes a rotation every 24 hours.

The GMT (24-hour) hand on the watch operates alongside the 12-hour hand, and can be adjusted to display a second time zone via the uni-directional rotating bezel. The bezel has a 24-hour scale with 120 notches that you can comfortably adjust when needed.

Measuring 49.5mm in height and 42.8mm in width, the Orient Mako GMT has a stainless steel case and a two-tone bezel that matches the colour of the dial. It has a screw-down crown on the right side, and the case integrates into the stainless steel bracelet and screw caseback.

Aside from the GMT hands, the Orient Mako GMT has a simple diver-style dial, including bar indices, a minute scale and a date window at three o’clock. Its hour hands have an arrow shape at the tip, while the minute hand has a long diamond shape.

There are five new versions of the Orient Mako GMT watch – four regular and one limited edition. The ‘regular’ models have black, blue, green and orange dials with a metallic, sunburst texture that subtly changes colour in the light. The limited edition Orient Mako GMT has a blue gradient dial.

Powered by the F6P22 in-house automatic movement, the Orient Mako GMT has an accuracy of +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day, and a 40 hour power reserve. Prices on the Orient Mako GMT start at £424.99. The limited edition Orient Mako GMT is limited to just 4,000 pieces.

At IFA 2026, Dreame announced its latest flagship robot vacuum cleaner, and it looks like the brand’s most advanced model yet. The new Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete has been upgraded with better mapping and climbing technology, and it comes with a clever steam cleaning feature.

Robot vacuum cleaners have gotten extremely advanced over the years, with many even being able to climb the stairs – terrifying, I know. But the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete marks a serious milestone as it’s one of the first robot vacuum-mops that can steam clean your floors.

Previously, if a robot vacuum had a steam function, it didn’t directly steam the floor. Instead, its base station used steam to wash and sanitise its mop pads after cleaning. In comparison, the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete can actually steam your floors by releasing up to 180°C of steam through four outlets on the roller edge.

The steaming function of the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete is designed for spot cleaning. It’s best for loosening dried-on stains before the roller head completely removes and cleans the floor using hot water. It also uses steam to self-clean at 100°C.

For vacuuming, the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete has 40,000 Pa suction power, and a new HyperSteam Detangling Floor Brush 2.0. The updated brush head uses a combination of rubber and crystal brushes to collect large dirt and dust in different sized spaces.

To separate its vacuuming and mopping, the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete has a Triple Tech Hub that lifts the brushes and mops up to 15mm when needed. It can also extend its mop rollers to 8cm for edge cleaning.

Speaking of lifting, the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete can climb steps and thresholds up to 10cm, thanks to its ProLeap Obstacle Clearance technology. Its mapping and detection is also better than before. Powered by OmniSense 4.0, the robot vac-mop uses X-Vision dual AI cameras and VersaLink navigation to map your home.

During cleaning, the AI cameras adapt to your environment so it can react to moving objects, and can even re-route in real-time. The Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete can also recognise over 320 different objects, some even as small as 1cm.

Dreame states that this new robot vacuum-mop has a four hour runtime, although its battery life is notably smaller when using the steam function. This limits the Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete runtime to around 40 minutes. To switch this off, you’ll need to manually do this in the app.

The Dreame Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete is expected to launch in select European countries on September 21st. As of writing, UK and US availability has yet to be confirmed and pricing is also being kept under wraps.

There’s something deeply funny about buying a £115 pair of trainers that already look as though they’ve survived several years of skate sessions, particularly when someone has also gone to the trouble of decorating them with pearls.

Yet that is essentially the proposition behind Vans’ latest Premium Old Skool 36.

It takes the familiar low-top silhouette, gives the upper a deliberately distressed finish, then covers parts of the shoe in pearl and crystal embellishments.

Vans says the idea is to evoke a “well-travelled shoe” that has been reworked and customised over time.

The newest addition to the Premium Old Skool 36 collection is the wonderfully chaotic Yacht Club colourway, which combines green, blue, red and yellow panels with an off-white Sidestripe and matching pearl detailing.

According to Vans, the colour blocking is inspired by sailing flags from around the world and mixes those nautical references with the spirit of 1990s sportswear.

Vans is expanding the range throughout autumn with Lime Pop, Navy, Black/Marshmallow and Red versions, while the relatively restrained Marshmallow model is also returning.

The Pearlized treatment has actually appeared before, including previous Old Skool 36 releases and the sold-out OTW by Vans x Satoshi Nakamoto Pearlized Old Skool.

However, this is now becoming a much broader part of the Vans Premium line.

Style 36 debuted in 1977 as the company's second dedicated skate shoe and, importantly, was the first Vans model to wear the now-iconic Sidestripe.

It was renamed the Old Skool in the early 1990s and has since become one of the brand's defining designs.

The Premium version retains some of the sharper proportions of the original Style 36, including a shorter toe cap, but adds a padded collar, an upgraded footbed, a higher-gloss sidewall, and Sola Foam ADC cushioning.

You still get Vans' vulcanised construction and signature waffle outsole underneath.

The Yacht Club Premium Old Skool 36 Pearlized launches today, 10 September, for £115 in the UK, with Marshmallow also returning today.

In the US, Yacht Club is priced at $130 and also launches on 10 September through Vans and selected Vans stores.

Sony has announced the new batch of games coming to the PS Plus game catalogue over the next few weeks, and it's a very solid lineup.

PS Plus Premium and Extra members will be able to play WWE 2K26 at no extra cost from Tuesday 15 September, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

As well as the best WWE wrestling game in years, which is exclusive to PS5 and PS5 Pro, subscribers will also be able to download and play Ball x Pit – one of my absolute favourite indie games right now.

A cunning blend of Arkanoid, tower defence, shoot-em-up and town building, the roguelite sees to take on ever increasing waves of monsters using charged, bouncing balls.

It's crazily addictive and simple to pick up and play, so is a must for every collection, I feel. It'll be available in the game catalogue from 22 September in the UK, US and Japan (15 September everywhere else).

Also coming to PS5 is Runescape: Dragonwilds (15 September). It's an open-world co-op survival game set in the Runescape universe and is brand new to PlayStation.

Another particular favourite, Dungeons of Hinterberg, will arrive on 29 September in the UK, US and Japan. The action-RPG is packed with puzzles and dungeon quests, and is something of an unsung hero in my eyes.

And then there's Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound – the 2D action-platformer that we've raved about in the past. That'll also be available on the same day.

Finally, PS Plus Premium and Extra members will also soon gain access to Sniper Elite: Resistance, and Slitterhead. While Date Everything! has recently been added, too.

Premium members with a PS5 or PS4 will also get Mega Man X Command Mission, and Metro Redux from 15 September, as part of the classics catalogue.

Philips Smart Lighting has launched its new Screen Sync, just days after the Philips Hue Play Screen Syncarrived. It essentially brings the Screen Sync concept to Philips' cheaper smart lighting range, but crucially, has a strip light that comes included in the box.

Just like the Hue version, the Philips Smart Lighting Screen Sync uses a fisheye lens to capture the full TV screen from edge to edge and read its colours in real time. Those colours are then recreated using a four-sided RGBIC strip light mounted behind the TV.

There will be two versions depending on your TV size. The 40-50-inch kit costs £79.99/€89.99, whilst the 55-65-inch version costs £99.99/€109.99. Each kit includes both the Screen Sync device and the corresponding strip light, so there's no need to buy any components separately.

In terms of installation, you simply position the Screen Sync device on top of your TV and start the calibration process in the app. It automatically aligns its anchor points with the edges of the screen, although you can make manual adjustments afterwards if needed.

There are several preset sync modes to adjust the effect depending on what you're watching, whilst a built-in microphone can also make the lights react to music.

If you want to take the effect beyond the TV, you can add compatible Philips Smart Lighting bulbs, lightstrips and lamps around the room. That includes a number of products launched back in May, so you can build out the setup without having to stick to the strip light behind the TV.

Casio has a habit of making inexpensive watches far more interesting than they have any right to be, and the latest addition to its MTP collection might be one of the best examples yet.

The MTP-E740 initially looks like a fairly conventional stainless-steel analogue watch, complete with three hands and a day-date window at three o'clock.

However, Casio has made calendar discs underneath an opaque dial part of the design, with the numbers and abbreviated days visible beneath the semi-transparent central section.

The result is a wonderfully busy arrangement of overlapping letters and numerals that makes a relatively simple quartz watch look far more complicated.

If you're familiar with vintage Seiko (or modern versions), the idea might also look rather familiar.

Sonar detected

The Seiko Time Sonar, introduced in 1976, famously used a transparent plastic dial that let its calendar disc show through.

Seiko says the design was inspired by submarine sonar displays, and even paired the original watch with a transparent caseback and a compass attached to its bracelet.

Earlier this year, the company also launched the Seiko 5 Sports x HUF SRPM09, a modern interpretation of the Time Sonar featuring a semi-transparent green dial and an automatic 4R36 movement.

That model is limited to 7,000 pieces and costs £350 in the UK.

The Casio isn't a direct copy or even quite the same proposition.

It has no automatic movement or chronograph, and Casio hasn't officially connected the MTP-E740 with the Time Sonar.

But the visual similarity is difficult to miss, especially when both designs turn something normally hidden beneath the dial into their defining feature.

Casio's version is a straightforward three-hand quartz watch, with the current day and date appearing conventionally through a window at three o'clock.

The stainless-steel case measures 39.8mm across and just 8.7mm thick, while the watch weighs 103g with its matching stainless-steel bracelet.

You also get mineral glass, 50-metre water resistance and an estimated three-year battery life, with Casio rating accuracy at ±20 seconds per month.

The MTP-E740-2A1V is available now from Casio UK for £85 (~$115 / €99 / AU$160), putting this take on the transparent-calendar idea at around a quarter of the price of Seiko's latest Time Sonar-inspired model.

And while the Seiko is undoubtedly the more sophisticated watch mechanically, I suspect plenty of people will be perfectly happy to keep the extra £265 in their pocket.

Apple didn’t announce a new HomePod or the rumoured Home Hub at today’s keynote, but that doesn’t mean the home was absent from the story. In fact, there was enough talk around hubs, intelligence and Siri to suggest that Apple’s ambitions for the home are still very much alive – and perhaps getting closer to becoming a reality.

The biggest clue came during Apple’s iPhone presentation, when John Ternus described the iPhone as an “intelligent personal hub.” That wording is particularly interesting given Apple’s existing use of “hub” in the smart home, where HomePod, HomePod mini and Apple TV provide the central infrastructure for HomeKit and Matter devices.

It gets even more interesting when you look at Apple’s push to make Siri dramatically more capable. A future Home Hub would need exactly that – especially a persistent interface for controlling and understanding what’s happening around the home.

There had been plenty of rumours ahead of today about new smart home hardware, including a HomePod update and a Home Hub device, yet neither appeared on stage. That doesn’t necessarily mean those products have been cancelled, especially when there are signs that Apple is still building the software foundation they would need.

There was an interesting reminder of that from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman earlier today. Before the keynote, he wrote: “If you don't see the Apple TV, HomePod mini, home display and touch MacBook today, don't worry. It's only September,” suggesting that the October event could be the one to watch.

Although Apple didn't mention it during its iPhone Duo launch presentation, the release date for iOS 27 has been officially revealed.

It appears in the footnotes under the press release for the iPhone 18 Pro, but will be made available for all supported iPhones before that device is made available. It'll be downloadable from next Monday 14 September, in fact.

This includes the new Apple Intelligence features, which will be available for "users with an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language". That includes devices in English-speaking countries, plus multiple other regions and languages across Europe and the rest of the world.

The new Siri AI is slightly different. While also available from 14 September, it will launch in beta form for English-language devices only. Apple will then roll out the AI-powered assistant in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish from October.

Is iPadOS 27 coming too?

It hasn't yet been confirmed, but it is more than likely that iPadOS 27 will also roll out on Monday for iPads, with Apple's other operating systems potentially joining it. Some of them have been known to be staggered in the past though, such as macOS.

As for the new iPhones, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will be available to pre-order from Saturday 12 September, with an on-sale date of 18 September.

Apple's first foldable iPhone – the iPhone Duo – will follow, with pre-orders opening on 16 October for a 23 October release date.

All of the new iPhones will come with iOS 27, Siri AI and Apple Intelligence pre-installed.

Apple has officially unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12, and while it looks broadly familiar, there are some significant changes underneath.

The biggest upgrades focus on health, fitness and Apple Intelligence, with a new sensor system, much more frequent heart-rate tracking, and a Readiness score finally joining the mix.

Here are the six biggest things you need to know.

1. Heart-rate tracking is much more frequent

Series 12 introduces Apple's new Health Sensing System, with larger green LEDs, redesigned photodiodes and an increased electrode surface for ECG readings.

Background heart-rate readings can now be taken every five seconds, which Apple says is 60 times more frequent than before, while HRV can be sampled as often as every five minutes.

Apple also claims the new system offers the “most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable”, based on its own testing against an ECG chest strap.

2. Readiness finally arrives

Apple is also introducing Readiness, which combines recent activity, sleep and vital signs into a daily score.

Apple categorises your status as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It, and the score can change during the day as new data comes in.

3. The S11 chip powers new AI features

Series 12 gets Apple's new S11 chip, which includes CPU, GPU and Neural Engine technology derived from the A20 Pro.

Its always-on processor powers a new group of Audio Intelligence features designed to work directly from your wrist.

4. Siri can rewind conversations

One of the strangest additions is Live Rewind, which lets you double-press the Digital Crown to retrieve and transcribe the previous 15 seconds of speech.

There's also Siri Recap, which can generate summaries and key points from conversations such as meetings, while Sound Recognition can identify things like alarms, sirens and doorbells.

5. Ceramic Apple Watch is back

Series 12 is available in aluminium, titanium and, surprisingly, ceramic.

Aluminium colours include Space Grey, black, light gold and new dark bronze, while ceramic comes in pearl white and night blue.

6. The screen is tougher, but battery life is unchanged

Aluminium Series 12 models now use Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says makes the front glass 60% tougher than the previous Ion-X glass.

Battery life remains rated at up to 24 hours, however, so the standard Apple Watch still isn't becoming a proper multi-day smartwatch.

The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 / AU$649, with pre-orders open now and availability from 18 September.

Announced alongside the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, Health Age is one of the headline additions to Apple's completely redesigned Health app.

It takes metrics collected by Apple Watch and turns them into an estimate of how your health compares with your chronological age.

It puts Apple in territory already explored by Garmin, which has offered Fitness Age for years.

Oura also provides what's called Cardiovascular Age, and Whoop also has its own version called Whoop Age.

Apple's approach looks particularly comprehensive, though, because Health Age isn't built around a single measurement.

Apple says metrics including VO2 max and sleep can contribute to the calculation, while users can go deeper by adding biomarkers from recent blood tests.

The app shows your Health Age history and breaks down which factors push the figure in either direction.

Apple is going all-in on longevity

Health Age sits in a new Longevity section of the Health app, bringing together information on sleep, movement, and heart health.

The interface uses coloured segments to show how you're performing across different areas, while Apple Intelligence generates summaries and personalised recommendations based on your data.

In the US, Apple Watch users will be able to order a Quest laboratory panel with more than 50 biomarkers for $119, with the results integrated alongside Apple Watch and iPhone data.

Given the sheer number of Apple Watches already sitting on people's wrists, Apple's move into longevity could be the one that pushes the concept firmly into the mainstream.

The redesigned Health app is due to arrive later this year, initially in US English, with additional languages set to follow.

Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12, and while it looks similar to its predecessors – which was to be expected – there are some exciting updates for the fans of Apple's mainline wearable.

The biggest upgrade is the Health Sensing System, a redesigned sensor array shared with the Apple Watch Ultra 4 that Apple claims significantly increases the amount of heart-rate data the watch can collect throughout the day.

Background heart-rate readings are now taken every five seconds, including while you’re moving around, which Apple says is 60 times more frequent than before.

Heart-rate variability, or HRV, can meanwhile be sampled as often as every five minutes, 24 times more frequently than previously.

Apple has also redesigned the hardware sitting against your wrist, increasing the surface area of the electrodes to improve skin contact during ECG readings.

The photodiodes are now arranged in a ring to capture light more efficiently, using larger, more power-efficient green LEDs for optical heart-rate sensing.

Apple is making a fairly substantial claim about the results, too, saying the new system delivers the “most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable.”

The company says it reached that conclusion after testing the Apple Watch head-to-head against other wearables, using an ECG chest strap as the reference while hundreds of participants ran, cycled and completed HIIT workouts.

It is an Apple study rather than an independent comparison, of course, so we'll see how the Series 12 performs against the latest Garmin, Coros and Polar watches in real-life tests.

Apple Watch finally gets Readiness

More frequent heart-rate and HRV measurements also feed into one of the most significant new fitness features Apple has introduced in years.

Readiness may already be familiar to Garmin, Oura, and Whoop users, but it's a brand-new addition to the Apple Watch.

Each morning, Apple Watch analyses your recent activity, sleep, and vital signs before producing a single score that indicates how much capacity your body has for exercise and everything else the day might throw at it.

Apple groups the results into straightforward recommendations, including Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, and Go For It.

Apple says your Readiness can change throughout the day as new information comes in, and the result can be viewed either directly on Apple Watch or through the Fitness app on iPhone.

HRV is also being added to the Vitals app, where users will be able to see both overnight and daytime information.

Apple says this should make it easier to spot changes in your physiological state before they show up in your overnight metrics.

The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 / AU$649, with pre-orders opening today ahead of availability from 18 September. Apple has not yet given UK or EU pricing in the presentation.

Apple has announced the iPhone Duo at last. Previously dubbed the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra in speculation over the last year, it is the company's first foldable smartphone and it's everything we expected and more.

A similar shape and size to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, the iPhone Duo is small and squat but has a 7.6-inch 4:3 OLED display when unfolded. This allows for better viewing of video content and is more like an iPad mini than a traditional book-style folding device.

There are some caveats to the new form factor. It only has two camera units on the rear, without the telephoto lens you'll find on the new iPhone 18 Pro, and it doesn't support Face ID. However, you do get Touch ID on the power button and when open, this is the slimmest iPhone ever made (even thinner than last year's iPhone Air).

Also, you do still get a FaceTime camera behind the inner display, with a small lens in the top right of the front screen too.

The software has been tweaked especially for the device, to seamlessly work across the front display and its unfolded equivalent. There are multitasking capabilities, app swiping to swap between screens and dedicated features that work when the device is partially folded or when set down on a desktop.

The outer screen is 5.4-inches and has the same aspect ratio as the inner version. While the build quality is typically Apple – grade 5 titanium has been used for the frame, with ceramic on the back and front.

We're yet to see the display ourselves, but Apple claims that it has one of the strongest bendable displays in the industry. And it suggests that the crease is almost eliminated.

In terms of the other specs, the Duo runs on the A20 Pro chip, much like the iPhone 18 Pro also just announced. It also includes a vapour chamber to keep the chip cool, as well as a C2 5G modem for cellular reliability.

Battery life is claimed to be up to 22 hours when using both screens simultaneously, while fast charging (through USB-C) allows for 50% charge in just 15 minutes.

There are two cameras on the rear, with the main camera capable of up to 4K 120fps video recording, and the 48-megapixel Fusion ultrawide is the same as on the Pro models. As mentioned though, there is no telephoto here.

It will also run Siri AI and the latest Apple Intelligence, of course. And one extra surprise is that the foldable will be compatible with Apple Pencil post launch. That's a big win for those with the stylus already.

The iPhone Duo will be priced from $1,999 / £1,999 / AU$3,499 for the 256GB model (as previously rumoured) with larger storage options up to 2TB becoming available too. Pre-orders open on 16 October for a 23 October release date.

Apple has announced its fifth generation AirPods and they blur the line between the entry and pro models more than ever before.

More durable and with live translation capabilities – much like the AirPods Pro – the AirPods 5 also feature better active noise cancellation. Apple claims that it works 50% more effectively than the last-gen, and with improved audio playback.

The design is largely the same, but the new AirPods are now rated IP57 for dust and water resistance. There's a bigger battery offering up to five hours of playback time with ANC activated, while the USB-C charging case expands that to up to 20 hours.

Another new feature of the upgraded buds is that they support the new Siri AI functionality coming with iOS 27. And there are two models that will be available – with a standard variant and a step-up pair that come with a wireless charging case.

This additional version also features volume controls on the stem of the right AirPod – a feature also migrated from the AirPods Pro.

The standard Apple AirPods 5. are priced at $129 / £129 and they're available to pre-order from today. They'll ship on 18 September 2026.

The step-up model with on stem audio controls, wireless charging case and longer battery life are priced at $149 / £149.

There is no new AirPods Pro version announced as yet, but with the features added to these entry buds, you have to wonder whether we need a new Pro. At least until the variant with an AI camera in the buds arrives (likely early next year).

Apple opened its 9 September event by dropping straight into its unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro, confirming a few weeks of leaks by showing off two striking new colours for the new phone.

It'll come in burgundy and glacier, the latter being an icy blue, along with the more traditional silver and black options that have been around for years.

In wider design terms, the phone's a clear case of continuity – it looks extremely similar to last year's 17 Pro, with a shelf on the rear again housing that triple camera unit. Those cameras have been given a nice upgrade, though, while the Dynamic Island has also shrunk down to be smaller than ever.

Unsurprisingly, the showcase of the phone was dominated by explanations of how Siri is evolving in its new "Siri AI" iteration. Apple showed how it can interact with apps and services to give you more voice control than before. It also showed a far more expressive and customisable voice model, something that Siri's been crying out for for years.

Of course, that AI upgrade goes hand in hand with a new chipset powering the phone, the A20 Pro. Seeing Apple talk in terms of "compute" requirements does underline how AI lingo is going mainstream, but the details are important here. The chip is built on a 2-nanometer infrastructure, a big step, and has upgraded CPU and GPU performance.

In practice, that'll mean more power in graphically demanding situations like gaming, but also improvements in AI performance in image generation. Hopefully that means Apple's AI editing tools get a little quicker.

Under the hood, we got a look at a new thermal management system that should help the 18 Pro keep cooler and therefore more performant – a whacking great vapour chamber, something that's becoming increasingly popular as a solution in flagship phones.

For the first time, Apple also talked about its battery tech changing, with the "largest increase ever" between two generations of iPhones. It didn't explicitly say this was down to silicon carbon technology, but it might expand on that at some point.

The new 48MP main shooting lens on the iPhone 18 Pro has a new variable aperture control system that should make it a little more customisable and controllable. This is the closest we've seen Apple get to just sticking a traditional camera lens in its phone, and we'll be fascinated to see how it performs. It'll be a great addition for photography nerds, as will newly expanded controls in the Camera app (which might kill some third-party apps overnight).

Of course, we knew that the phones would also get a price hike – and that was confirmed by a new price for the 18 Pro at $1,199 in the US, and the 18 Pro Max at $1,299. In the UK, as was predictable, we're getting a worse deal – the 18 Pro is £1,199, and the Pro Max is £1,299. Those are chunky £100/$100 hikes. Still, pre-orders start on 12 September, with an on-sale date of 18 September.

One of the most exciting retro games console reissues was unveiled in April this year, with the NeoGeo AES+ to be a faithful recreation of SNK's iconic 1990s machine.

It proved to be a hugely popular announcement, with pre-orders flying in for the new version and the multiple game cartridges to go with it. All in the hope of getting hold of one before the end of this year.

However, we have learned from distributor Plaion that the NeoGeo AES+ has now been delayed – by almost 12 months. We've been told that it won't ship until 16 September 2027.

Sadly, there's a common reason for its delay: the RAM and components crisis.

"The response to NeoGeo AES+ has been extraordinary, but global component supply constraints mean we simple cannot manufacture enough systems to deliver the worldwide launch our community deserves," said Plaion in a statement sent to T3.

"Rather than launch with severely limited availability, we're taking the extra time to expand production, secure the components we need, and invest in an even bigger future for NeoGeo AES+.

"If you've already pre-ordered, your order remains secure and keeps its priority place. There is no price increase and no action is required."

Existing orders will also get a "Founding Supporter Bonus". Standard and Anniversary Edition orders will receive a free NeoGeo AES+ Gamepad, while those who have paid for the Ultimate Edition with get 30% off future NeoGeo AES+ games.

As for new orders, they are being accepted now (albeit with a much lengthier shipping estimate). The NeoGeo AES+ will cost £179.99 in the UK without a game. It's compatible with old NeoGeo AES cartridges from the 90s, along with new reissues priced around £69.99 / €79.95 each.

The Ultimate Edition bundle also still available. Priced at £799.99, it includes 10 classic NeoGeo games in a cartridge set, with the likes of Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, and Samurai Shodown V Special part of the pack.

Today, Wednesday 9 September, marks the date of newly appointed Apple CEO, John Ternus, in delivering the tech giant's Surprise and Shine event.

We've been live-blogging about that all day long ahead of its 18:00 (BST) kick-off time. But Ternus' second-ever 'Tweet' – on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter – was a biggie.

The new CEO only joined X on 1 September, to coincide with his new role, with a simple 'hello' message and nothing more – until now. His second post is far more telling, as it's in animated video form:

I think what we're looking at here is the much-rumoured variable aperture of the incoming iPhone 18 Pro Max – a feature said to be exclusive to this phone alone in this year's line-up.

That's because, look closely, and you'll see the opening to that light source has six sides. In a lens formation that's precisely what a six-blade aperture looks like.

And a six-blade aperture is ideally designed to physically adjust, pushing and pulling the aperture petals to adjust the opening size – and the amount of light let in to expose the sensor.

If you re-watch the animated video's closing moments, you'll see what appears to be that aperture shrinking in size. One of the key reasons for a smaller or wider opening is to control the light and how that will affect an image – a wider opening will deliver more background blur, for example, further exaggerated in a longer focal length.

That's why it's been long rumoured that Apple's Portrait mode was likely to get an upgrade from a variable aperture lens. And this could be the first glimpse we have of just that.

It's not the first time this kind of technology has been deployed in a smartphone. Xiaomi did it with its 14 Ultra handset a couple of years ago – which we described as "a photographers' dream".

Others have already taken to the web to cast other theories, though. "Vision Pro 2?" queries someone in the X thread, among a swathe of memes and AI-generated videos for your amusement.

One thing is clear, though: Apple hasn't – or, moreover, didn't – tease product releases in this way. But this is 'The New Apple', with Ternus at the helm, so could be a hint of more changes in its practice to come.

I've not even mentioned the folding iPhone – whether named as Ultra or Duo is now up for debate – up to this point, so the tease-and-distract method certainly has its own value...

At IFA 2026, Levoit unveiled its new smart air purifier, specifically designed to create a cleaner and calmer environment in your home. Having used a fan and air purifier hybrid overnight for the past few months, the Levoit Eleva 300X definitely appeals to me. Shelly launched a number of new products at IFA 2026 last week, including two new smart sensors, but one of the most exciting announcements was actually an update coming to its Wall Display family.

The Wall Display X1i, X2i, XL, U1, S1, S2 and XT are getting a free Matter update that will make compatible models both a Matter controller and a Matter device. Essentially, this means the Wall Display can bring compatible smart home products from different brands together on one screen, making it much easier to control everything from a single place.

The Matter functionality will arrive as a free over-the-air update with firmware 2.8.0. First-generation Wall Display and Wall Display X2 models will also be able to control Matter devices shared from a newer compatible Wall Display, but thread-based Matter devices will still require a Thread Border Router.

You also won't need a separate Matter hub or bridge to add supported devices to the Wall Display. Once connected, Matter products can be included in Shelly's local scenes and automations, meaning a smart sensor or smart light from another brand can be used alongside Shelly devices in the same routines.

The update works the other way around, too. The Wall Display itself can become a Matter device, allowing features such as its relays, dimming and thermostat controls to be used through platforms including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant.

The Wall Display can also be connected to multiple Matter ecosystems whilst still acting as a central point for controlling devices from different manufacturers.

As Shelly CEO Dimitar Dimitrov puts it: “Making the Wall Display a Matter controller and a Matter device at the same time means it can bring every brand in the house onto one screen.”

The internet got itself into a tizzy over the past few days, when users started sharing stories about how the screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 flexes at the corners.

This all started with fairly innocent questions about whether others found that the corners could be pushed inwards slightly. As is often the case, some pile-in with confused information (one referring it to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which was a completely different design), while others provided useful information – such as confirming how the glue was applied from the JerryRigEverything teardown.

Reddit went down the same rabbit hole, before Samsung came forward to detail that it's a design feature, not a flaw. That hasn’t stopped the sensationalist reactions on X, with people claiming it's a quality control issue and highlighting that Apple will do better. But that's the internet folks.

According to Samsung, talking to Business Post (via 9to5Google), it's an intentional flexibility designed to protect your device from damage if something does get caught in the corner.

Samsung said in a reply to one user: "When you press the outer corners of the foldable main display on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, there is a slight indentation. This means that the main display of the foldable product features a cushioning structure applied to the outer corner areas for durability and protection."

The reply goes on: "This is a normal design feature applied to protect the display and enhance durability, and it does not affect the product performance, so please use it with confidence."

That, it seems, is much to the disappointment of many online who thought they had found Samsung's fatal flaw with its popular new device.

While many were suggesting that Apple wouldn't have the same "flaw", we're now only hours away from the launch of the "iPhone Duo", which is the expected name of the folding iPhone.

We're just hoping it's more successful than the Surface Duo that seems to be the inspiration for its name.

After a few months of waiting, Lavazza has finally launched its Tablì coffee machine in the UK. Expanding its line-up of pod coffee machines, the real star of the new Lavazza Tablì coffee system is its coffee ‘tabs’ which, unlike normal pods or capsules, have absolutely no plastic, and are instead made of 100% coffee.

I’ve tested many pod coffee machines in my time as T3’s Home Editor, and have always championed them as being a quick, easy and convenient way to make your morning coffee. My one negative about these types of machines is its pod waste. While most can be recycled, they still generate a lot of plastic and aluminium waste.

Lavazza has clearly thought of this, and ‘invented’ a new type of coffee pod to go with its new Lavazza Tablì single serve, capsule-free coffee machine. Instead of a pod, it uses a coffee tab made entirely of coffee without any protective coating or binders.

The Lavazza Tablì is specifically designed to use this type of coffee tab so you get the full flavour and aroma in each cup. Once brewed, the coffee tab can be disposed of with your food waste instead of ending up in landfill like older types of coffee pods.

The design of the Lavazza Tablì is similar to its other pod coffee machines. Available in white, black or brown, it has a bean-shaped slider and piston system which allows you to easily and quickly insert and remove each coffee tab. It also comes with Wi-Fi support so you can connect it to other compatible devices in your smart home via Alexa or Google Home.

The Lavazza Tablì has an intelligent brewing system which is best at making espresso, double espresso and lungo. The machine uses Lavazza’s Crema Plus technology to expertly brew your coffee to bring out the coffee’s flavours and create a crema on top of your drink.

When asked about the Lavazza Tablì, Emanuele Pellegrino, Regional Director of Lavazza UK & Nordics said “Tablì represents a major breakthrough not only for Lavazza, but for the coffee industry as a whole. Few puffer jackets are as instantly recognisable as The North Face Nuptse, but the brand has now given its most famous down jacket a considerably more technical makeover.

For AW26, The North Face is taking its iconic puffer back towards those mountaineering roots with the new Summit Nuptse Jacket.

It's a far more technical take on the familiar design, built for climbing and mountaineering rather than commuting.

It still looks unmistakably like a Nuptse, with the oversized down-filled body and contrasting shoulder panel we've come to associate with the jacket.

However, instead of the relatively simple horizontal chambers of the classic Nuptse, the Summit model uses The North Face's Cloud Down technology, featuring an offset baffle construction that gives the down more space to loft while reducing cold spots.

Inside those chambers is 800-fill water-repellent ProDown, which should provide considerably more warmth for its weight at high altitudes.

The unusual-looking baffles aren't completely new territory for The North Face's Summit Series, with the bulkier Himalayan Down Parka using the same CLOUD DOWN construction.

Their appearance on the Nuptse, though, underscores how far this version has moved toward serious alpine use.

A Nuptse built for the mountains again

The yoke, collar and hood use Spectra ripstop, blending recycled nylon with ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethene fibres to improve abrasion resistance in areas likely to take a beating when you're climbing or wearing a pack.

The rest of the outer is made from lightweight 30g/m² recycled nylon, with both fabrics receiving a non-PFC durable water-repellent finish.

It also has an adjustable, climbing-helmet-compatible hood that packs into a zipped collar compartment when you don't need it.

The main Vislon zip works in both directions, letting climbers open the bottom of the jacket while wearing a harness.

The hand pockets sit in positions that make them easier to reach when geared up, and the jacket also has two internal mesh drop-in pockets, an internal hem cinch, FlashDry stretch-knit cuffs and a lightweight stuffsack.

Despite all that insulation, the Summit Nuptse has an average weight of 554g.

The Nuptse was originally developed as serious expedition clothing before gradually becoming one of the defining puffer jackets of streetwear.

With the Summit version, the Nuptse returns to the mountains where it belongs.

The Summit Nuptse Jacket is available now from The North Face UK for £540 in four colours.

It's listed as out of stock in the US, but it appears on the brand's European site for €600. AU price and availability TBC.

Google Maps offers a speedometer in the app on your phone and it also shows it during navigation on Apple CarPlay, but until very recently it has been missing on Android Auto.

We first caught wind of Google's plans in July, when a speedometer appeared in Google Maps, along with speed restriction information. That arrived for some drivers using Android Auto and was limited to select beta users, it seems. However, rather than rolling out to the wider public, it seems to have vanished again.

That's the story coming from Reddit, where users are reporting a fickle experience: some see it, some don't. Some are on the beta release and some aren't.

I tested Google Maps on Android Auto in the UK and found that I had the speedometer and the speed limits showing up. I'm not on the Google Maps beta, but I am on the Android Auto beta.

So it looks like we're in a position of flux for the feature, with many users not running the beta having access to the feature and those on the beta somewhere in between. It's likely that this position will straighten itself out over the coming weeks.

Some users have also reported traffic dropping off, while others are suggesting that you try Waze. However, I've found recently that my Waze speedometer has disappeared behind other in-screen furniture and become obscured.

There's a chance that such mapping systems are struggling for space, wanting to show you the base map and turn instructions, the ETA and other road information, and app controls – and unless you've got a huge screen like a Tesla, it might not all fit.

But ultimately, the speedometer is shown in the car somewhere else. Most cars still have a driver display and some have a heads-up display, so it's not hard to see how fast you are travelling – and for the majority of drivers, glancing at the central display is more of a distraction that just using the car's existing speedometer.

Then we come to the actual speed that in-app speedometers show. These lag behind the speed shown by the car, because they are calculated from satellite movement whereas the car's speedometer calculates it from the speed of the wheels. That's why Google Maps or Waze is often different and lags behind the speed changes your car shows you.

That being said, the inclusion of speed limits is much more useful: although many modern cars show these, they are usually based on a static database, so recent or temporary changes won't show. Older cars – or low spec cars – might not have this feature at all, so speed limits in Google Maps can be really helpful.

Let's hope all this irons itself out soon.

The crowded halls of the Messe were filled with all sorts of interesting products this year, from cutting-edge (quite literally) robot lawn mowers to whole-home AI ecosystems. However, amongst all the new launches, there was one product that particularly caught my attention, and if I'm being honest, I didn’t expect it to.

Robot window cleaners have never been something I’ve been completely convinced by. In my mind, cleaning windows is one of those jobs that can be done quickly with some window cleaner and a bit of elbow grease. The best robot vacuums, on the other hand, can take care of one of the most time-consuming household chores, so I’ve always found their window-cleaning counterparts a little harder to justify.

That was until I saw the new Ecovacs Winbot W2S Pro Omni in action.

First unveiled in April, the W2S Pro Omni brings a few upgrades that make it a much more convincing option. Most notably, cleaning efficiency has been improved by up to 46% compared to previous models, thanks in part to its three-nozzle wide-spray system.

The system creates a fine pre-treatment mist that helps loosen stains before the cleaning pad even makes contact with the glass. This means the robot can tackle dirt before it starts wiping, helping it clean the surface more thoroughly in a single pass.

It also comes with a 12-step protection system designed to keep the robot securely attached to the window whilst it works. Its 120ml water tank can cover up to 75m² on a single fill, making it particularly useful for larger windows, French doors and skylights where repeatedly stopping to refill would quickly become a pain.

Navigation has also been upgraded with WIN-SLAM 4.0, which is designed to map different window layouts and navigate around obstacles such as handles and locks. There’s also a 5,200mAh battery, offering up to 110 minutes of cordless cleaning, but the station can also be connected directly to AC power for longer cleaning sessions.

The W2S Pro Omni looked far more premium than I anticipated, with a neutral fabric-covered design that I imagine will be very popular. It was also lightweight enough to carry between different windows, which makes the idea of using it throughout the house feel much more practical.

The Ecovacs Winbot W2S Pro Omni is available now for £529 via Amazon UK and Ecovacs' online store. It will also be available from retailers including Very and Harvey Norman in the UK, whilst US customers can buy it through Amazon US for $599.99.

IFA 2026 took place last week, and it’s the time of year when huge appliance manufacturers announce a whole host of new products and collections – and this year, Haier is no exception.

Haier has announced a massive new line-up of appliances, including fridge freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers and coffee machines. But something I was most surprised to see from Haier was its new vacuum cleaner line-up, called the I-Pro Clean Series 5.

Within the range are upright, cordless and robot vacuum models, all of which are designed for specific cleaning needs, like floor types, different stains and dirt. One characteristic which ties the Haier I-Pro Clean Series 5 together is its Double Roller system.

Haier’s Double Roller technology features two motorised rollers which work together during cleaning, including forward and backward motion. The counter-rotating rollers capture and pick up more dirt while also reducing the amount of passes the vacuum does over the same surface.

The first model from the Haier I-Pro Clean Series 5 range is the Haier I-Pro Clean M5. This cordless vacuum cleaner has up to 250 air watts of suction power and uses an integrated sensor to detect and monitor dirt, and adjust the vacuum’s power for an efficient clean.

The design of the Haier I-Pro Clean M5 is simple, with a large bin at the top of the vacuum, and a display at the top for the controls. It also shows you real-time feedback as you clean. It has a flexible tube design which allows it to get under furniture, and it has up to 100 minutes of runtime.

Within its bin, the Haier I-Pro Clean M5 has a HEPA 13 filter and a five-stage separation system which captures dust and other small particles. Its self-emptying station also works to prevent these allergens and bacteria from getting back into the air, and has advanced plasma disinfection technology to keep itself clean, as well as your floors.

In terms of robots, the Haier I-Pro Clean R5 has up to 22,000 Pa suction power, and combines its Double Roller system with a roller mop for both vacuuming and mopping. Its mop can extend and lift to avoid carpet, and it thoroughly cleans multiple surfaces of dirt, dust and stains.

The Haier I-Pro Clean R5 has an LDS navigation system with an AI camera that makes maps, detects and avoids obstacles, and recognises dirt. It comes with a docking station that charges, empties and washes and dries itself.

Finally, Haier is taking on the Dyson Wash G1 with its own floor washer. The Haier I-Pro Clean Z5 uses its Double Roller system and dirt detection to adjust the amount of water it adds to your floors. Not only does it ensure a thorough clean, but it stops excess water making your floors too slippery and avoids cross-contimation with dirty water.

As a cordless device, the Haier I-Pro Clean Z5 has a 50 minute runtime, and an auto clean function which washes and dries its rollers when finished. It has an impressive 25,000 Pa suction power, and offers edge-to-edge cleaning to get close to the edges and corners of your home.

Haier has many appliances under its belt, but its new flagship cleaner line-up definitely looks like it could give Shark and Dyson a run for their money.

Timex has been digging increasingly deep into its archives in recent years, bringing back everything from unusual digital watches to some of the stranger designs of the 1970s and 1980s.

Its latest revival takes us forward to 1990 with a wonderfully elaborate moon phase watch that looks almost impossibly intricate for something powered by a straightforward quartz movement.

The Timex 1990 Moon Phase Reissue recreates a design that the brand says was comparatively sophisticated for its time, squeezing a moon phase display, calendar information, date window and several different scales onto a compact dial.

It also continues what has become a particularly entertaining run of Timex reissues.

We've recently covered the wonderfully odd 1976 Rotary Phone Dial Reissue, which borrowed its hour markers from an old telephone dial, as well as the Q Timex 1975 SSQ Digital Reissue, a throwback to the brand's early digital watches.

There's a lot going on here

The Timex 1990 Moon Phase Reissue features a cream dial with flowing black Arabic numerals, surrounded by gold-tone hands and detailing.

Further towards the edge, you'll find two densely packed calendar tracks displaying the days of the week and dates of the month.

The obvious focal point is the moon phase display just above the centre of the dial, where a deep blue disc decorated with gold stars and a moon tracks the current phase of the lunar cycle.

It's the considerably smaller detail underneath that display that I particularly like, though, because Timex has also brought back its old-school Timex Quartz wave logo, complete with the tiny blue graphic that appeared on watches from the period.

The rest of the watch follows the same theme, with a polished gold-tone stainless-steel case paired with a dark brown crocodile-grain natural leather strap and an 18mm lug width.

Properly compact proportions

Thankfully, Timex hasn't enlarged the original idea to suit modern tastes either.

The case measures just 37mm across and 10mm thick, with a 42.5mm lug-to-lug measurement that should make it considerably more wearable than many contemporary dress watches.

It weighs only 44.89g, uses mineral crystal over the dial and offers 50 metres of water resistance, which Timex says is enough for light swimming, although the leather strap means I'd be inclined to keep this particular watch somewhere dry.

Underneath all that apparent complication is a battery-powered quartz movement, which feels entirely appropriate given the period being recreated and should make living with the watch rather less complicated than its dial suggests.

The Timex 1990 Moon Phase Reissue (TW2Y99000) is available now, priced at £250 in the UK, €289 in Europe and $299 in the US, while Australian retailers list it for around AU$549.95.

After a recent trial, Sky has launched a new version of its Sky Go app – this time for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers exclusively.

Sky Go has long enabled Sky subscribers to download and stream programming remotely, on mobile devices or tablets, but the new version is better targeted at the TV giant's streaming customers. The regular Sky Go app is still available for those with Sky Q and legacy satellite boxes.

The new Sky Go – which is listed on app stores as Sky Go (Glass / Stream) – gives you a similar user experience to your Sky TV device. You can continue watching content started on your Sky Glass or Stream box, and you can see the shows you've stored in your shared watchlist.

There's also the option to switch watchlists to those stored under different profiles, so family members can each see their personally listed shows and movies on their own devices.

The new app also allows you to 'watchlist" content from your phone or tablet, which will then show under your profile on a Glass or Stream, too. And, you can stream TV channels and catch-up shows on any of your devices just by tapping on it.

Upgraded downloads – now Full HD

One other main upgrade is that Sky Go (Glass / Stream) now allows you to download and watch content at 1080p (Full HD). The legacy app is restricted to 720p.

That won't matter much on a smartphone, where the screen is much smaller, but will ensure the picture quality looks much sharper on a larger tablet, say. I watch a lot of content on my 11-inch iPad Pro, so this is very welcome in that case.

Also, sports fans now get a dedicated section of the app to find live matches and other broadcasts. That includes sports documentaries and live feeds of the Sky Sports channels if you subscribe to them.

The Sky Go (Glass / Stream) app is available to download on iOS and Android now, with the original Sky Go (Q / +) having also been recently refreshed and renamed. The latter has received a similar facelift, but retains some of the important features for satellite customers – such as the ability to set recordings on a Sky Q box remotely.

We have been writing and discussing Apple's first foldable iPhone for many months – years, even – and it's mainly been called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra in that time. However, it seems that the internet speculation was wrong.

While Apple is almost certainly going to reveal the device later today, the names we've been using have seemingly been incorrect.

According to Bloomberg's resident Apple expert, Mark Gurman – who is generally right about these things – the foldable will be called the iPhone Duo, instead.

This is backed up by fellow trusted leaker, Ice Universe, who posted an "iPhone Duo" teaser on his X feed.

To be honest, the name allegedly chosen doesn't sound like an Apple product. It's more Microsoft, which used a similar name for its own, ill-fated foldables in the early 2020s. But there was also some who suggested that calling the new iPhone "Ultra" would also be misleading.

It's believed that it'll have a lower spec camera unit than the iPhone 18 Pro, with the telephoto lens missing. And it's also thought that it'll cut Face ID from the equation, being that it'll be so slim when unfolded.

Those omissions mean that while you gain a fold-out screen, the new iPhone can hardly be called the best of the best. It'll be different rather than superior.

Someone might want to tell the accounts department that though, as Gurman also suggests that the starting price will be $2,000 (£2,000, if Apple's pricing convention continues as normal).

That's actually less than some reports and leaks have claimed, although it is also said that the 2TB model could rise to as much as $3,000.

Setting the entry point at $2K (rather than the tipped $2.5K) does allow Apple to better compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, however. Samsung's similarly-sized starts at $1,899 – just $100 less – so the difference could be forgiven by many.

It'll be more stark in the UK, of course, as Samsung doesn't match prices like-for-like over here – the Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at £1,699 – and there are discounts at networks already. But it could have been much worse.

Marantz has just revealed its latest compact music system, the MCR 60n, which combines CD player with network streaming, Phono (MM) and HDMI eARC for connecting your other hi-fi kit.

Marantz, the world-renowned Japanese audio brand, is no stranger to making some of the most desirable high-end hi-fi kit on the planet – and the MCR 60n updates the earlier MCR 612 with a bunch of enhancements.

CD players are hugely in demand at the moment, as an increasing movement towards 'proper album listening' has seen more artists releasing on the format – and more listeners enjoying the experience of taking in a full release, track by track.

The MCR 60n offers one of the more luxurious ways in which to enjoy your CDs, thanks to a built-in player, which now offers a dual-plate design for greater rigidity and better isolation for improved playback.

The brand's latest HEOS model, meanwhile,supports PCM up to 384kHZ/32bit and DSD up to 11.2MHz for streaming, should your preference be the highest available audio formats on a network-attached drive.

Much as the CD format is in demand, the vinyl resurgence hasn't slowed either – and the MCR 60n can cater for this format, whatever your kit. The Phono connectivity supports Moving Magnet (MM), if that's the kind of record player that you possess.

Marantz has souped up the audio quality in the MCR 60n, too, with more linear Class D amplification than its 612 predecessor, at two lots of 65W stereo output (marking a 30% increase). There's a subwoofer output with adjustable crossover settings, too.

The Marantz MCR 60n will be available from 15 September, priced at $1000 in the USA. The UK/European version gains DAB radio, too, with its asking price set at £800 / €900.

I'm not necessarily in the group of people who think that awards mean all that much for movies nowadays – I've lived through too many travesties for that attitude to really stick. Still, I'll definitely defend the place of film festivals, and their attendant awards, in the distribution system, and when a movie arrives with an award from one of the bigger festivals it's generally a great sign that it has real promise.

That's exactly the box that's been ticked by La Bola Negra on Netflix, which just got a full trailer that gives us only its theatrical release date (16 October), although Netflix has separately confirmed its streaming date as 2 December. It looks like a pretty stunning film, and crucially it won the Best Director prize at the Cannes film festival.

The film looks hugely ambitious and striking, and Netflix says that it follows three generations of men in three drastically important phases of Spanish history – 1932, 1937, and 2017. Each makes discoveries that rock them to their core, as they try to find a sense of belonging in times that don't make such a thing easy.

Two of those moments are obviously set during war, and it looks like we'll meet a ragtag bunch of characters fighting in those conflicts, which won't be glamourised at all. Perhaps the most curious part of the film is one of its stars, the Spanish musician known as Guitarricadelafuente, who's been getting wild plaudits for this breakout acting role.

It's rare to see this sort of self-built star branching out into a new medium and basically smashing it out of the park at the first attempt, and you'd have to assume that his existing musical fanbase will be a big asset for the film's popularity on arrival. Netflix rarely dresses up its trailers quite so pretentiously as this one, suggesting that it has confidence in the artistic merit here.

It's certainly got me interested – this looks like it could be a great one to see in the cinema, although it might be hard to know how long that theatrical run will be. At least it's coming to streaming before the year's out.

What to expect

The main focus this year will undoubtedly be on Apple's first foldable phone – commonly referred to as the iPhone Ultra, but seemingly arriving as the "iPhone Duo". So much has been written and said about it that it would be a major shock if it didn't appear.

There will also be an iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max announced, although we expect to have to wait until early next year for a new standard iPhone 18 model.

In terms of smartwatches, we understand the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will be unveiled, along with new AirPods – the AirPods 5, at the very least.

Oh. and there will be plenty about iOS 27 and Siri AI, which will soon be available for existing devices as well as the new ones.

A. Lange & Söhne has launched two new versions of its popular Triple Split and 1815 UP/DOWN watches to coincide with the Hampton Court Concours of Elegance. These limited edition novelties are based on their original designs, and have subtle changes, like material, colour and dial accents.

Starting with the Triple Split, this watch launched back in 2018 and became well known in the watch industry as the only split-seconds chronograph that measured intermediate, comparative and overall times for up to 12 hours. This new edition now comes in a 43.2mm platinum case with a rhodié-coloured dial and grey subdials.

Limited to just 100 pieces, the new Triple Split has a split-seconds chronograph with a flyback function. Time measurement can be stopped via the pusher at four o’clock which resets all active chronograph and rattrapante hands back to zero. When you release the pusher, a new measurement will restart.

The dial of the Triple Split has hour, minutes, seconds and stop seconds functions. A tachymeter scale surrounds the dial, and it has an UP/DOWN power indicator. The rattrapante hands are blue while the main hands are a grey shade. Powered by the L132.1 calibre movement, the watch has a 55 hour power reserve, and is finished with a dark brown alligator leather strap.

The new 1815 UP/DOWN novelties from A. Lange & Söhne are my favourite from the new launches. Available in white gold or pink gold, each model is limited to 300 pieces and are inspired by historic Lange pocket watches.

Measuring 37.5mm, the dials come in blue and have large Arabic numerals with a railway-track minute scale. It has a seconds counter and an auxiliary subdial at eight o’clock which acts as a power reserve indicator, and is designed to look like a fuel gauge.

A signature feature of the 1815 UP/DOWN, this UP/DOWN power reserve indicator uses an AB (DOWN) marker to represent the unwound movement, while the AUF (UP) marker shows the fully wound movement. When fully wound, the watch has up to 72 hours of power reserve.

Both subdials have blue hands, while the main hour and minute hands match the colour and material of the case – either white or pink gold. Powered by the L051.2 manufacture calibre movement, it can be seen via the caseback, including its winding wheels, blued screws and gold chatons and balance spring.

The 1815 UP/DOWN is finished with a blue alligator leather strap for the white gold version, or a red-brown strap for the pink gold version. Prices for the new watches are available on request.

I've been working a lot with mini PCs in the last year, turning them into retro games consoles, Steam Machine alternatives, and generally using them for work and home applications.

There are models for all manner of budgets, from the cheap and cheerful, all the way up to powerhouse workstations, and GMKtec is one of the brands that pops up regularly with new devices.

Such was the case at IFA 2026 in Germany, where the manufacturer launched arguably its most capable mini PC yet (if you can really call it that). Crammed into a compact aluminium case, the EVO-X5 Pro is more than a convenient computer – it's a powerful agentic AI PC that can run LLMs locally and with considerably speed.

That's because it is spec'ed through the nose. You get the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor running the show, with its 16 Zen 5 CPU cores and 32 threads. Then there's the integrated Radeon 8065S GPU, featuring 40 compute units and hardware ray tracing support.

There's a dedicated AMD XDNA 2 NPU integrated too, with 55 TOPS of AI performance for local workloads.

On top of this, the PC sports 192GB of unified LPDDR5X RAM, running at 8533MT/s. Up to 160GB of that can be assigned as VRAM too, so this is a monster of a machine.

It's not really designed for gaming – it's a more enterprise-focused machine with an eye on running AI applications and hardware creativity tools. However, those specs are more than capable of playing AAA games at 1440p with very decent frame rates.

To be honest though, while GMKtec is yet to reveal full pricing, I was told that it will not be cheap during my booth visit at the show. Indeed, if you aren't as bothered by the use of high-end AI models, and are looking more for a powerful all-rounder, I'm currently testing the brand's NEO-X1 Pro compact tower which is purposely designed for that purpose and is very much a more suitable option.

As for the EVO-X5 Pro though, the units on show proved so popular at IFA the team found them missing on the last day – the dummy versions had been stolen.

Hopefully they'll turn up. But even if not, it shows that GMKtec has something of a desirable hit on its hands.

Pro controllers are one heck of an investment for most people, but they really can make a substantial difference to how it feels to game on your platform of choice. Most of them bring features like extra buttons or paddles to the table, but SteelSeries is hoping that it's big headset innovation can now work for a controller, too.

It's just announced the Aeon Pro, a controller that has a feature list as long as my arm, but the one I'm most interested in is its battery-swapping option. Like the Arctis Nova Pro Omni headset, it has a swappable battery system with a charging dock so that you're never caught short with a dying gamepad.

That dock also lets you swap between connected devices, so that you can switch between Xbox and PC at will – although the pad won't work with PlayStation 5 consoles. That's a Sony issue, though, since its DualSense haptics basically killed off any chance of third-party controllers working on the platform. Still, it's always annoying.

As well as that battery and device-swapping system, the controller features Hall Effect thumbsticks, which are drift-proof for better longevity. It also has four programmable back buttons and a little onboard OLED screen to make swapping between profiles and modes easier.

You can easily swap out thumbsticks for your preferred options (including convex/concave and different heights), and the controller features some grippy rubberised texture for more of a feeling of control even if you're in a tense moment.

I think that battery system will be the ace in the Aeon Pro's sleeve, since I still forget to charge my controllers pretty regularly. SteelSeries already solved that problem in its high-end headsets, so it's a great shout to add it to a controller. The lack of PS5 support is an Achilles' heel, but it can take solace in the long list of other gaming brands in the same boat.

Of course, all this comes at quite a price, with the Aeon Pro launching at $259.99 in the US, £229.99 in the UK and €259.99 in Europe. You should be able to order it from SteelSeries' site now, and it'll trickle through to retailers imminently.

Louis Vuitton has just added to its iconic Tambour collection with five new, exciting Spin Time references. Featuring its 12 rotating cube dial design, the new Louis Vuitton Tambour Spin Time watches are available in multiple colours and materials, including opal, gold and platinum.

The Tambour collection is arguably one of Louis Vuitton’s most recognisable and emblematic ranges, with its bold case shape and Spin Time complication. First launched back in 2009, the Louis Vuitton Tambour Spin Time is best characterised by its 12 rotating cubes that replace a watch’s traditional hour hands.

Aside from giving the dial a cool, three-dimensional effect, the rotating cubes reinterpret the jumping hour complication in a more modern way. Since its original launch, Louis Vuitton has launched limited edition versions in 2025, but for 2026, the brand has launched five new references that will become permanent parts of the collection.

Let’s first kick off with the blue versions of the new Louis Vuitton Tambour Spin Time watches. Starting off strong is the Tambour Spin Time Australia Open Rose Gold, featuring an 39.5mm 18kt rose gold case. One of the most luxurious versions, it has an Australian opal dial at the centre and between each of the 12 cubes.

Due to the unique and natural opal stone, the dial has layers of blue, purple and gold. The hour markers are set with baguette-cut diamonds for extra sparkle, and there are baguette-cut sapphires on the bezel and lugs. It’s finished with a blue rubber strap.

Next, the Tambour Spin Time Air Blue in White Gold is slightly larger with its 42.5mm white gold case. Most of the dial is shown in blue, but it’s also contrasted with silver text on a white background when the current hour is shown on the cube. The ST13.01 calibre movement is suspended at the centre of the case, and it can also be seen via the caseback.

The final blue reference from the new range is the Tambour Spin Time Air Antipode Blue in White Gold. Measuring 42.5mm, this model is the most complicated, as it displays all 24 major time zones across the 12 cubes simultaneously. Each cube has the names of two cities on it that are exactly 12 hours apart, while local time is shown by a yellow pointer.

The centre of the Tambour Spin Time Air Antipode Blue in White Gold has a picture of the world’s map. It’s bold, dramatic, and has a white gold case and blue accents that are finished with a blue calfskin strap.

Moving away from blue, the Tambour Spin Time Green has a 39.5mm white gold case with an earthy green colour on the dial and cubes. One cube is lighter in green to signal the current hour, and it’s completed with a matching green rubber strap.

The fifth and final reference is the Tambour Spin Time Air Flying Tourbillon Salmon. The salmon coloured dial is bright and fresh, and it matches its tan calfskin strap. It has a LFT ST05.01 calibre movement that takes 50 hours to put together, and it sits in a 42.5mm platinum case.

If you missed Philips Hue’s big product announcements last week, there’s quite a lot to catch up on. The company unveiled an impressive number of new products and features, and whilst several of the recent rumours turned out to be spot on – including the Hue Play Screen Sync and Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 4K – there were also a few surprises that I certainly wasn’t expecting.

I was in Berlin for the announcements, which also gave me the opportunity to sit down with George Yianni, Head of R&D at Hue Connected; Marco Merolla, Business Leader for Consumer Connected Lighting; and Drago Jozic, Market Leader for Benelux & UK&I. After following the rumours and developments in the run-up to the event, this was my chance to get some answers directly from the people behind Philips Hue and find out what the company has planned next.

However, there was one thing in particular I was keen to ask about... Philips Hue’s decision to collaborate with Nanoleaf.

Nanoleaf has been in the spotlight quite a bit recently following its acquisition, so seeing the brand team up with Philips Hue immediately raised a few questions for me. Most importantly, I wanted to know whether this was simply a one-off collaboration or the beginning of something bigger for Hue.

After speaking with George, Marco and Drago, the main – and rather exciting – takeaway is that Philips Hue isn't ruling out more collaborations with other smart home brands.

The team wouldn't reveal exactly what's next on its partnership roadmap, but it did confirm that Philips Hue is looking at a range of potential integrations with other brands and platforms.

In fact, when discussing why Hue would choose to partner with another company rather than develop a product itself, George put it pretty simply: “If what’s there is already a great fit, why would we do it ourselves?”

The chat we had also gave me a much better understanding of Philips Hue’s thinking behind the Nanoleaf partnership. The company doesn’t need to build every type of smart lighting product itself, and if another brand already excels in a particular category, working together can ultimately create a better experience for customers.

Nanoleaf was a natural fit because its decorative lighting panels filled a gap in the Hue lineup. In fact, Hue says it had already seen members of its community combining Nanoleaf panels with their Hue setups, which George described as “clearly a gap for people that wanted to have the Hue experience in every room of their house.”

Marco also stressed that partnerships aren't simply about filling gaps in the product range. As he put it, “The consumer experience in some selected areas can be better if we partner with another brand than having to try to fix that gap ourselves.”

Nanoleaf wasn't the only collaboration announced that day, either. Selected Hue switches, including the Hue Tap Dial Switch, can now control Sonos speakers without you needing to open an app. However, the Nanoleaf partnership feels particularly interesting because it's a collaboration between two brands that could otherwise be seen as competitors.

Rather than keeping their products completely separate, Philips Hue and Nanoleaf are finding a way for them to work together. This could make both ecosystems more useful in the process, and if Hue's comments are anything to go by, Nanoleaf may not be the last smart home brand we see it work with.

Nothing has put out a call for its Community Review Program, which is where fans of the brand can play their part in testing and reviewing its products.

There's a whole range of stipulations about what you'll have to do, but it's basically a reviews programme where you'll have to share those impressions through your own channels as part of the Nothing community.

It's made perfectly clear that you'll have to agree to an NDA – non disclosure agreement – and you'll be given dates when you can share your thoughts and findings.

For those dreaming of being an influencer, this could be the opportunity: you'll be sent a Nothing device, you get to test it and then you can create the content. For you it's a bit of fun – you'll have to return the phone as it's only a loan – while for Nothing it's a bit of community engagement and free marketing.

Nothing has outlined some specific types of people it's interested in, saying that those interested in 3D animation, graphic design, music and sound products, or product reviews are encouraged to apply.

The announcement is topped by Lanturn, originally appearing on a teaser a few days ago. It's not clear if Lanturn refers to a product or just to the Review Program itself, but the appearance has set speculation running.

Some community members think that it refers to a premium Nothing watch, while others pick up on the symbology and think that it refers to the Glyph interface because of the light. Others see the electric type Pokémon as some sort of battery or charging device.

Nothing has already had a busy year and the company has publicly said that it will have a wider selection of phones in 2027, which could include a new flagship phone, the Nothing Phone (4).

We've had the Nothing Phone (4a) and (4a) Pro, as well as the Nothing Phone (4b) this year – alongside new earbuds.

Rumours persist that there's a Nothing Watch in the making, with previous watches limited to the CMF brand.

While the upcoming launches aren't clear, those selected for the Review Program will get access to devices in advance, for a chance to have a say and directly impact on the direction that Nothing is moving.

Tudor has reintroduced its Northflag tool watch, and it made it more practical than ever before. The new Tudor Northflag is inspired by the British North Greenland Expedition of the 1950s, and is designed to handle the world’s most demanding conditions, with its new dial, GMT and movement redesign.

The first Tudor Northflag debuted back in 2015 and was originally inspired by the 1973 Ranger II watch. This second generation keeps many of the same features as its predecessor, but has been given some subtle design changes which makes it more reliable in harsh and demanding conditions and terrain.

Measuring 40mm, the Tudor Northflag has a satin brushed and polished stainless steel case, complete with a stainless steel bezel. The screw-down winding crown on the right side has a cone shape and is embossed with a Tudor shield.

Where you’ll really notice the differences of the Tudor Northflag is its dial. With a black coloured dial, the watch has been upgraded with a 24-hour rehaut angled at 45 degrees. Completed with an arrow-shaped 24-hour hand, this makes the GMT function of the Tudor Northflag more useful in polar night or midnight sun environments.

To enhance visibility, the monobloc ceramic hour markers are large and luminous. Alongside the hour markers, the ‘Northflag’ hands are also enhanced with Super-LumiNova, and there’s a bold, square date window at three o’clock. The second hand is also bright yellow.

Powered by the Manufacture Calibre MT5652-U movement, the Tudor Northflag features a balance spring and bidirectional rotor system. It offers a precision of 0/+5 seconds of variation per 24 hours, and a 65 hour power reserve. It can be seen via the open caseback, and unlike its predecessor, the Tudor Northflag’s movement with GMT function is COSC and METAS certified.

The Tudor Northflag is finished with a two-link integrated bracelet with a Tudor T-fit rapid adjustment clasp. It’s available to buy now for £4,310 / $5,525.

With Apple due to host its annual iPhone launch event tomorrow, it comes as no surprise that the rumour mill has gone into overload – especially where the company's first foldable is concerned.

We've seen an official case manufacturer reveal its new, related products early, and now there are reports on iPhone Ultra pricing. But before I continue, I suggest you sit down. And maybe call your bank manager.

An online leaker, EVDownunder, claims to have discovered the pricing details for the iPhone Ultra from a source within Vodafone Australia. As expected, it's a lot higher than many would have hoped.

According to his X post, the 256GB model will cost AU$3,699 at launch, the 512GB version will be AU$4,199, and the 1TB AU$4,699.

In comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at AU$2,199 in the country – so the difference is profound.

Using today's exchange rate, the 256GB iPhone Ultra will cost the equivalent of £1,970 / $2,663 if the leaked prices are correct. However, Apple doesn't really work that way. I'd expect it to be around $2,500 in fact, and considering the firm translates its prices like-for-like in the US and UK, you can expect to pay around £2,500.

Step up the storage sizes and it could run anywhere over £3K.

And sadly, for those hoping the leak turns out to be wrong, this matches previous estimations from seasoned analysts and Apple experts. Being an early adopter in Apple world has never come cheap.

It'll really come down to pre-order deals and network price plans, I feel. Or maybe the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is looking more attractive by the day.

Last week I attended the IFA tech expo in Berlin, where I was shown Dreo's latest heating products – with the Whole Room Heater 720S being the one to really catch my eye.

However, it's been so hot in the UK that the thought of buying a heating product might've seemed absurd. Today, as if on cue, the rains began to fall and the temperature has dropped.

With darker evenings drawing in, a clock change on the not-too-distant horizon, and an unpredictable winter incoming, I already want this versatile heater for my home office.

That's because Dreo's Whole Room Heater 720S – there's also the step-down 725 model – caters for both whole-room output and personal space heating.

The brand describes it as the world's first "adaptive 360-degree whole-room heating" product, which uses a duo of motors – one to control airflow, the other to manoeuvre the lifting structure – for controllable heated airflow.

I've heard the product in action, too, and it's very quiet indeed. The quote is 25dB, which is towards 'whisper quiet' – to the point I couldn't notice it at all.

In an office space like mine, the Dreo can heat to over 28C in half an hour. When it's really ramped up, it can output airflow at 4.1m/s to get that heat everywhere – unless you prefer it localised.

I love the Dreo's design, too. The stepper motor powering the lifting structure almost gives it a personality, while the five integrated illuminations cycle between colours to show the level of heat.

The Dreo Whole Room Heater 720S will be available from Argos in the UK, priced at £119.99 (although it's not yet on sale). It'll be an ideal, affordable and smart-looking purchase to offset those incoming cooler temperatures.

Also at IFA, Dreo revealed its Convection Heater 711S, which is akin to a portable glass radiator, along with a variety of new Air Purifier products, asserting its increasing prominence in the smart home space.

You are no doubt familiar with the Hublot Big Bang, a watch that has been around for over 25 years now, and is known for pairing metal cases with rubber straps.

But this latest model is the start of something new. The clue’s in the name – the Soft Touch – since this is a watch that debuts an all-new manufacturing process for Hublot’s straps, and now what was rubber now feels like velvet.

That’s the claim, at least. Hublot says a “dedicated overmolding process” is employed, using specially engineered tooling to integrate the velvet-like texture with the rubber itself. This isn’t a finish or a coating, the watchmaker says, but instead a new texture that becomes an intrinsic part of the construction of the strap itself.

To make the new material Hublot has a new watch available in two distinct colours. Called the Big Bang Soft Touch, the watch is offered in All Black and All Red. The new velvet-like material is applied to both the strap and the titanium case, bringing a softness to what was previously metal. It also appears on the bezel and dial, creating what Hublot calls a unique tactile finish

The company says of the material: “Its unique microscopic surface structure is composed of thousands of fine micro-elements, creating an exceptional softness to the touch while preserving the durability and resistance expected from Hublot’s signature rubber.”

Hublot’s own Hub1280 Unico self-winding chronograph movement drives the watch. It features a flyback movement with column wheel, 43 jewels and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. The 43 mm case is made from titanium “overmoulded” with the new velvet-effect material in either red or black, and so too is the bezel.

Water resistance is 100 metres and the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The strap is secured with a titanium deployment buckle clasp, while the dial is punctuated by a date window at the half-past-four position, and a set of rhodium plated, satin-finished hands.

Available now, the Hublot Big Bang Soft Touch is priced at £19,600 in either red or black.
