Lego and retro gaming have proved a match made in heaven over the years. The brick building brand has released sets based on Nintendo consoles, the Atari 2600 (VCS), and even the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis. And now it seems another classic machine is on its way.

A Lego PlayStation has leaked. We don't yet know the exact specifications of the build, nor do we have an image, but a post on the Legoleak Reddit does reveal some interesting details – not least a price, release date and the free add-on that'll be available from Lego.com.

Posted by BrickTap (via VGC), the Lego PlayStation (72306) will allegedly come with 1,911 pieces in the box. It is likely to include a build of the console itself and, if previous sets are any marker, an original DualShock controller.

It'll cost around $160, it is claimed, and will be available to order from 1 October 2026.

The post also reveals that, excitingly, an Astrobot gift will be available to redeem when purchasing the Lego Playstation from the brand's official site.

It often includes GWP (gift with purchase) releases that are exclusive to Lego itself, and they can become very collectable soon after. It's therefore worth keeping an eye out for an official announcement and pre-order details. We'll keep you informed with anything further we hear too.

As for the main set, I'd personally be surprised if it doesn't have an Easter Egg or two in the construction – such as a famous PlayStation scene that's revealed when you lift the disc cover, for example.

This has been a trademark of some of the other sets. The Nintendo NES came with a CRT TV featuring an animated Mario, while the Lego Atari 2600 sports an 80s gaming room hidden in the front.

This is also not the only retro gaming set coming this year. A Lego Donkey Kong build was launched soon after it too had leaked. That's currently on back order at Lego.

After winning a grand prize on the Lego Ideas site earlier this year, The X-Files set from fan designer WetWired will soon be available to buy.

There have been a few tweaks to the design, but the Lego Ideas The X-Files set is remarkably close to the original submission. And it's a must-buy for collectors and sci-fi fans.

Lego has even enlisted the help of Dana Scully herself – Gillian Anderson – to launch the new set in a teaser video. She reprises the role from the show, while her minifigure is one of eight you get in the box.

She's joined, of course, by Fox Mulder, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien. It makes me want to head back to watch all 11 seasons again (and the movies – well, the first one anyway).

They're all available on Disney+ to stream.

Back to the Lego set and you get 1,478 pieces to build a recreation of Mulder's office sitting underneath a forest scene, while a UFO hovers over head. Those who order the set on its initial release – between 1 and 10 August – will also get the Lego Ideas The X-Files: Scully's Lab for free.

The main set will first be available to Lego Insiders on early access, which starts on 1 August. General orders will then be accepted on the Lego Store from 4 August.

It will be priced at £179.99 / €199.99 / $199.99.

"I didn’t expect to be stepping back into Scully’s heels to investigate a Lego set," said Gillian Anderson. "It has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later.

"This set is a wonderful celebration of the X-Files, and the fans who have kept its mystery alive."

Retro gaming and Lego are set to collide once more, with a new set having leaked that ticks every box for collectors of both camps.

We've recently been treated to the Lego Game Boy, a Luigi set as part of the larger Mario Kart models, and a reasonably priced Lego Mega Drive / Genesis Console. But they could soon be overshadowed by the next big build.

Seemingly taking a queue from the superb Lego Pac-Man Arcade set released a few years back, the box art for a Lego Donkey Kong Arcade machine has popped up online.

It looks to be a similar size to the existing Pac-Man equivalent, although the box lists about half the amount of pieces – 1,367 (instead of 2,651). That should mean it'll be a lot more affordable.

Indeed, the leak that appeared on the Legoleak Reddit suggests it'll be $200 in the US. The Lego Pac-Man Arcade set currently retails for $269.99 over there.

It could even equate to around £165 in the UK, which seems attractive given the potential quality.

There's not much more we can glean about the set for now, apart from the fact that it might have moveable elements, which could be controlled by the joystick and barrel lever at the bottom.

We can also see that some of the original coin-op cabinet art is used around the screen, including the unflattering image of Mario prior to his Nintendo makeover.

Hopefully, we'll find out more about the Lego Donkey Kong Arcade set (72051) in the coming weeks, including a release date. It's personally an even more significant 80s machine for me, and it does make sense that Lego would make further use of its relationship with Nintendo.

We're now a little over six months on from Lego's first big round of Pokémon sets, including one giant one that included all three starter monsters from the original games in their fully-evolved form. That set looked a lot like the dream to me, featuring genuinely iconic designs and thousands of pieces to make it a properly interesting build.

Little did I know that this year would bring another batch of Pokémon sets, too, and that they'd include more than one that has me similarly drooling over its potential – and wincing at its price. This time around, the Lego team has turned to the Game Boy Advance era to bring a legendary monster from Pokémon Emerald – Rayquaza.

The legendary dragon is a long and serpentine green beast, and its set sees it set above the mountaintop where you encounter it in the game, giving it quite a nice dramatic setup rather than just being a free-floating monster. The set has 1,083 pieces, so it's big but not enormous, and costs £119.99 or $129.99.

It's one of my favourite Pokémon, and to be fair, it's far less expensive than the enormous sets from the last release, but it's also not quite the most attractive set in the new list. That goes to Pokémon Iconic Trainer Moments Poké Ball, a complicated name for a really ingenious set.

It will have you build a giant Poké Ball that opens up to reveal two iconic scenarios. In the lid, you'll find Professor Oak from the original games, offering up a choice of three monsters to pick from in his lab. Then, in the middle of the ball, you'll find Red, the player character, fighting a trainer's Eevee with his Pikachu.

Lego's rightly keen to point out that its megafans will notice this involves actual minifigures for Pikachu and Eevee, something that acts as a pretty good indicator of when Lego thinks a brand tie-in is really going places. We don't know how many sets have been sold, of course, but it's a safe bet that the partnership is flying off the shelves given how enduringly popular Pokémon remains.

The Poké Ball set comes in at a more expensive £229.99 or $299.99, which isn't surprising given it's more complicated at 2,339 pieces. That still makes it much more approachable than the Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise set that remains my dream acquisition.

If I could have one from the new list, though, it would indeed be that Poké Ball – and you can pre-order it along with some other sets being launched, directly from Lego as of today. Just head to the Lego store here to do that.

The cars are ready to race. All 22 F1 drivers are in their cars on the start line at Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, but this isn’t the F1 race; this is the drivers' parade. And those aren’t Formula One cars; they’re Lego minicars.

Lego has injected its own brand of fun into a few of the races over the last two years, but each time it manages to top the last. For the Miami Grand Prix in 2025, Lego put 10 full-size F1 cars on the track. This year, it’s built minicars for every driver to race.

These single-seater minicars are made up of over 28,000 bricks and are finished in 11 team liveries, complete with team emblems, numbers and colours. As with the full-size Miami cars, these are fully drivable and can reach speeds of up to 25km/h (15.5mph).

The minicars look more like go-karts and are actually fitted with go-kart wheels. As most F1 drivers start their careers driving go-karts as kids, the design is likely to be a hit, and could bring out that competitive streak even before the race starts.

I was there in Miami when the drivers paired up to drive the full-size Lego F1 cars and there was some serious competition to win the lap. I suspect today at Silverstone is likely to be no different. And with a car each, it could be even tougher.

There’s something special about the British Grand Prix. Maybe because Silverstone is the only home track for us in the F1 series, but maybe it’s also the history behind it. As much as I can’t wait to see who wins today’s F1 race, it’s the Lego minicars that will have everyone smiling.

I don't care who you are, LEGO Star Wars is cool, and every single model brings a little bit of joy to the world. As a child of the 70s, I grew up with Star Wars toys and with LEGO, so as an adult, seeing the two brought together was magical.

It's the classics that I love, though: ships and scenes from the original trilogy. Though occasionally I will stray beyond their borders into Mandalorian territory and Andor realms.

This year's Amazon Prime Day sale doesn't have masses of LEGO on sale, at least not yet, but there are some big discounts on those it does have. While I could happily fill my basket with them in private, I thought it might be useful to share my take on the best to buy.

The best LEGO Star Wars deals right now

The Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear is the latest model in Lego’s Ultimate Car Concept range, and inducts the Swedish megacar into an even more exclusive collection of just six cars. The Lego Technic model provides not just a visually accurate interpretation of the car, but it mimics some of the Spear’s most notable features.

Koenigsegg is a Swedish success story, rising from the boyhood dream of Christian von Koenigsegg to one of the most sought-after luxury supercar producers in the world. From its pristine factory in southern Sweden, it produces just 70 cars a year and has a waiting list of over seven years for new models.

The Sadair’s Spear joined the line-up in 2025, named after the horse his father, Jesko, rode in his last race in 1976. Costing roughly £4 million each, only 30 cars exist, and every one was sold before they were even made. They are now changing hands between collectors for even more.

This is the kind of car that kids (and adults) put pictures of on their wall. It’s a road-legal track-inspired megacar, with a 5.0-litre V8, 1603hp, a huge spoiler and Koenigsegg’s signature fighter jet-style windscreen. Megacar is a term reserved for those supercars with a power-to-weight ratio of greater than 1:1, and the Sadiar’s Spear produces 1,157 horsepower per tonne.

It also boasts the impressive Lightning Speed Transmission (LST) for instant shifts through its nine gears, a unique triplex suspension system and the signature Koenigsegg Ghost mode, which raises the huge rear wing, the bonnet, and opens both dihedral doors.

A technical challenge

Creating a Lego Technic version of the Sadair’s Spear was a challenge that took its designers over a year and a half – longer than any previous Ultimate Car Concept. The 4,104-piece model is 59cm long, 28cm wide and weighs nearly 3kg.

The really clever part is that the Lego Sadair’s Spear features working versions of the suspension and the sequential 9-speed gearbox; the paddles on the steering wheel click forward and back, switching the gears through the series of cogs visible at the back of the car at a slightly larger-than-life scale.

“It doesn’t matter how many times I try to explain the light speed transmission,” says CEO Christian von Koenigsegg, “but here we don’t need to. Here you can build it and see for yourself how it works.”

The model also replicates the Ghost mode. Lift the rear section of the car and the bonnet and doors automatically follow, thanks to some mind-boggling engineering. This movement has become synonymous with Koenigsegg, and is a nod to the Swedish Air Force’s Ghost Squadron, from which the ghost logo comes.

Hands-on

The clever part about Lego models, including the Technic range, is that they all rely on standardised pieces. Of the 4,104 in this set, only 19 pieces had been specially made for the Koenigsegg, including the wishbone suspension, the cogs to allow the nine-gear movement and the roof panels.

Two things really struck me about the Lego Technic Sadair’s Spear. The first was how close the design looks to the real car. The attention to detail, down to the way the doors open and the seven-spoke turbine blade Aircore carbon-fibre alloys, is really impressive. The second is just how big this model is. Built at a 1:8 scale, the size and weight are significant, and you will need plenty of shelf space to display it properly once you’ve finished – and you’ll want to show this off.

The way the sequential gearbox has been designed for this model is really stunning. Not only can you change through the gears using the paddles, but the different gears then offer different levels of torque to the wheels, due to the pistons moving at different speeds in the car’s engine. The way the Triplex wishbone suspension operates is also highly accurate, providing real shock absorbers in the model.

Like most who saw the Sadiar’s Spear, though, I had to try out the Ghost mode. In the real car, this is activated from the key, but on the model you manually raise the rear section. As it raises, the doors open, folding upwards and the wing mirrors fold in, as they do on the real car. The bonnet also raises at the same time, all connected by a series of pieces under the gearbox. You can also open the doors individually by pressing a small button further back in the car’s body.

There is one difference though from the real car – aside from the price – and that’s the colour. The Sadiar’s Spear is finished in a dark brown metallic paint; for the model though, Lego has chosen black. During prototyping, versions of the brown were tried, but it was decided the colour didn’t look as appealing in Technic Lego, and adding the metallic effect was not feasible. The use of orange for the interior and details gives the model a sporty feel that matches the original car.

Building it

Kasper René Hansen, Lego’s lead designer on the project, told me that the original building meetings, where he briefed the team on how to build the Sadair’s Spear, took a full week. Once the instruction manual was finished, that build time reduced to three solid days.

For us non-professional builders, I expect you will need significantly longer. Not that you’d want to rush this process – it is, after all, what makes Lego so fun. This is the biggest of the Ultimate Car Concepts to date, beating the McLaren P1 by around 200 pieces; it’s also only the second model to have a removable roof, matching the real car and allowing you to get a better view inside.

Full-size cars

Not content with making one of the most impressive scale models of the Sadiar’s Spear, Lego also set its large format specialists to work and created a life-sized Lego version. Following projects like the Lego F1 cars last year, this 1:1 version looks just like the real car, and it drives – fast.

The full-sized model is made from 327,906 pieces and took more than 9,400 hours to develop and construct. Fitted with dual motors and a large electric battery, it’s considerably faster than previous full-scale Lego models. The team’s aim was to allow the car to reach 100km/h (62mph).

Testing the full-size model at Goodwood on a reverse route of the hill climb, the Lego Sadiar’s Spear reached 111km/h (69mph) with Koenigsegg Test Driver, Markus Lundh, behind the wheel. The model is expected to debut at Aurora, the Scandinavian Concours and be back at Goodwood for the Festival of Speed later this month.

Lego and retro gaming has gone hand in hand a lot in recent years. It has collaborated with Nintendo and Atari for collectable sets based on classic consoles, while a partnership with Sega has also resulted in some excellent builds starring Sonic the Hedgehog.

Now the toy brand and the latter gaming giant have combined again, but this time with arguably the best gaming set we've seen to date – not necessarily in complexity, but certainly for price.

While the Lego versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System and Atari 2600 (VCS) were in excess of £200 / $200 at launch, the newly announced Lego Sega Genesis (AKA Mega Drive in the UK, Europe and Japan) will be just £34.99 / $39.99.

Admittedly, the build is a lot less complicated, comprising 479 pieces – less than a quarter of the Atari – but still an accurate, attractive set for retro gaming fans and collectors.

It comes with additional pieces to swap the style from Genesis to Mega Drive, depending on your preferred option, detachable controllers, and even a hidden zone showing a picture of Sonic under the cartridge unit.

A slottable cartridge (of Sonic the Hedgehog 2) is also included and the final construction measures 400m x 160mm x 120mm. The controllers measure 200mm x 80mm x 240mm apiece.

The full set will be available from 1 June 2026. Lego hasn't yet opened its store for pre-orders, but we'll keep checking on the build up to release day.

Big, complex sets for big, outlandish sums isn't the go-to for many of us, though. So whether it's a little treat, a birthday present or gift, or a bigger purchase that you've saved up for, here are three stand-out Lego Star Wars sets – whatever your budget.

As said up top, some of the most successful Lego Star Wars price-cut deals we've highlighted over the years have been the ones that Lego fans and Star Wars fans go doolally to snap up.

Whether that's the Imperial Star Destroyer (as pictured) or the legendary Millennium Falcon Collector's Edition sets, there are some big purchases that may also see May 4th discounts.

Lego's partnership with Star Wars runs deep, though, so whether you're more The Mandalorian aligned of late, are a fan of the 1970s originals, or both, there are sets to suit everyone and everyone.

Some of the older, larger models are now discontinued and run into second-hand market mega-fortunes, mind, so if you want a Death Star then you're out of luck as it stands.

But with The Mandalorian and Grogu movie imminently in cinemas, expect an even bigger push from Star Wars and Lego alike – and it's the N-1 Starfighter that really kicks things off, as highlighted above.

As a fan of both Formula One and Lego, seeing the two brands come together in the last few years has filled me with joy.

Who could forget the full-size Lego cars racing ahead of last year’s Miami GP? Even the brake marker boards at the Austrian GP, resembling blocks of Lego, was a delight to see. And of course there are the new Lego F1 kits. You can buy a full grid of 1:24 scale cars, plus even the Apex GP team car from F1: The Movie, and most recently the Lego-branded Formula Academy racer.

Then there are the Lego Technic kits. Renowned for their size, price and complexity, the Technic family has included the off F1 car for years now, but for the last couple of seasons their quality, realism and attention to detail has reached a new level. And so too has Lego’s ability to back a winner, since this year’s star car is the McLaren MCL39 – winner in 2025 of both the Constructors’ Championship and, with driver Lando Norris, the Drivers’ Championship.

The kit follows in the Pirelli tyre tracks of last year’s Ferrari and Red Bull. Priced at £199.99 here in the UK ($229.99 in the US) and available since 1 March, the MCL39 kit is 1:8 scale and comprises 1,675 pieces, plus a comprehensive set of stickers to faithfully recreate the double-championship-winning livery.

I’d previously built Lego’s smaller F1 cars, with both the 1:24 scale 2023 Ferrari and approximately 1:18 scale 1988 McLaren MP4/4, so was excited to finally try out the bigger format. In fact, I would almost certainly have bought the MCL39 car myself, until Lego kindly suggested sending one for this review.

As with any Lego kit of this size, there’s a lot to take in. But the instructions are as clear as ever, and the 10 bags of pieces are clearly labelled. I mostly assembled this kit on the lounge floor, but if you put the smaller components of each bag into a couple of bowls as you go, I can see this coming together on a relatively small table just fine.

Comprising 546 steps across 362 pages, the instructions might seem intimidating for builders used to the smaller F1 kits. But none of the steps are particularly complex, and while I had to rewind a couple of times I’ll blame that on being distracted by the television. Some steps require a closer look to understand precisely where each part goes – and make sure to double-check orientation when components are flipped around between stages – but for anyone familiar with a Technic kit this will all feel familiar.

I particularly enjoyed how the suspension and power unit came together. The former includes a set of springs to give the car independent push-rod and pull-rod suspension, just like the real thing, and the way it sits when complete is especially satisfying. So too is the engine, with its six cylinders moving up and down as the rear wheels rotate.

There’s a gearbox too, of sorts. A lever beneath the left-off engine cover clicks through low gear, neutral and high gear with a push, changing the speed of the engine relative to how quickly the rear wheels turn (or how quickly you push it across the carpet…). It’s a nice detail, but strangely this lever is also attached to the DRS flap of the rear wing.

This isn’t at all how the rear car works, but I appreciate what Lego has done here. Push the lever to the higher gear, and the DRS opens as it would in a high-speed section of the race track. It neatly combines two mechanisms into one, but might annoy an F1 engineering purist.

Elsewhere, the front wheels can be turned by either the steering wheel in the cockpit, or via a gear that protrudes discretely from behind the roll hoop.

The livery is very good, with each sticker easy to apply. I really like how accurate this car looks. It’s still obviously a Lego kit and not an ultra-realistic model from Amalgam or Pocher, but to my eyes it looks much more realistic than some of the supercar Technic kits do.

Gaps beneath the side pods let it down slightly, the rear end could perhaps be a little tidier – and, yes, Lego still hasn’t fixed the ongoing F1 Technic issue of the front and rear tyres being the same width. The smaller, simpler and much cheaper F1 Speed Champions kit gets this detail correct, so why can’t a Technic car costing almost 10x the price?

That gripe aside, the MCL39 is a fabulous kit that’s still a lot of fun to build and display, either on its own, alongside a couple of smaller F1 models, or as part of a complete hybrid-era collection with the Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari too.

With all the talk of the next-generation of gaming, with Xbox Project Helix and the PS6 in development, the future of the games console is looking rosy. It could be a couple of years at least before we see either in stores, though.

But don't worry, it seems as if one games console will arrive this year after all – and we're not talking about Valve's Steam Machine. It looks like Lego is about to add to its classic console collection in the form of the original PlayStation.

Lego has previously released sets for the Atari 2600 (VCS), Nintendo Entertainment System, and most recently, the Game Boy. Each are loving recreations of games machines from yesteryear, which have proved very popular.

Now a Lego Instagrammer has leaked information (via VGC) on a prospective new set, which could arrive by the end of this year. Lego Minecraft Goat has a good track record for set leaks, and they claim that the Lego PlayStation set will include 1,911 pieces and be priced at $159.99 / €159.99.

That also makes it likely to cost between £149.99 and £159.99 in the UK.

It will be an adult build (for over 18s) and could also include the classic original DualShock controller. We'd also put money on a Lego version of the original PS1 memory card.

Certainly, Lego is going all-in on gaming right now, with a new Luigi & Mach 8 set being added to its Mario Kart range. There are the Pokémon sets too, plus a tease that new Super Mario minifigures are coming in 2027.

Hopefully, if the PlayStation set proves successful, we might also see some other favourites added to the lineup. I'd love a Sega Mega Drive / Genesis and/or SNES, for example.

And how about a Lego Xbox 360? You could even have extra bricks to add the red rings of death to the power button.

Or perhaps not.

It's Pokémon Day, and this is a particularly big one – this year, Pokémon turns 30, which is the sort of anniversary that most brands and franchises dream of getting to. It's brought with a whole heap of new announcements, but you might have missed that in amongst the noise, today is also the on-sale date for the huge Lego Pokémon sets announced a couple of months ago.

They're some of the most extravagant Lego kits I've ever seen (and I'm someone who's lucky to have built ones like the Starship Enterprise, and The Lord of the Rings Rivendell in recent years. In particular, my mind's been completely captured by the largest set of the run: Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.

It's a staggering collectible, one that gives you really detailed and perfectly-modelled examples of the final evolutions of each starter Pokémon from the very first generation of games – the ones I remember so vividly from my childhood.

I'm from the generation that completely wrecked save files by abusing the MissingNo. glitch on Pokémon Blue (in my case), so these monsters are some of the longest-standing mascots in my life. To see them recreated like this is something else, albeit there's no world where I can afford to buy the kit myself.

I'm particularly taken with the way the set divides – you can have it as a complete display, with each of the three monsters on a section defined by their main elemental power, but they're also free-standing models, from the looks of things.

That stonking price tag (£579.99 here in the UK) is hard to get past, and no mistake, but I'm extremely confident that by the time you read this story, they'll have already completely sold out – still, no harm in trying eh?

Of course, there are luckily some other sets to pick from, including charming versions of both Eevee and Pikachu, arguably more recognisable thanks to their starring roles in various eras of the cartoon show.

All in all, though, these sets really do look like some of the most luxurious and high-end merchandise I've ever seen created for a franchise like this. It's fairly telling that fans from the early Pokémon days are happy to hoover this stuff up – the franchise has gone from strength to strength.

Given the crazy demand for the trading card game's rarest cards at this point, don't be surprised if some people aim to buy up these sets just to sit on them for a decade or two, hoping to sell them for way more down the line. That's a bit of a bummer, to my mind, but at this price it's all a bit of a silly season anyway.

Several times a year, we receive a press release or hear about a product that makes us double check the calendar – just to make sure it's not 1 April. This is one of them.

Crocs and Lego have announced a partnership that will result in years of collaborative products, and it'll be interesting to see what they come up with in the future. The launch release, however, is something quite different.

Available on the Crocs and Lego websites from 16 February will be the Lego Brick Clog – an outlandish mish-mash of the two brands that surely only the bravest Millennial would leave the home wearing.

That said, I have little doubt that the Crocs x Lego footwear will sell out immediately. They come with an exclusive minifigure, for starters – also wearing similar Brick Clogs. That opens up sales to the collector's market for sure.

What will more likely be in the realms of affordability are future Lego Jibbitz for classic Crocs Clogs. Lego claims that the add-on accessories will be part of an additional product rollout throughout this year.

There will also be extra releases for kids and adults, it claims. That could result in new Lego sets, perhaps, or other forms of Crocs footwear that aren't as much an acquired taste.

I'd personally prefer it – I do love a Croc and am a sucker for Lego, but there's no way on God's green earth that I'd wear what looks like shoe boxes on my feet (I'm size 11 - 12, so am already close to that as things stand).

But chuck me a minifigure Jibbitz – in the shape of Boba Fett perhaps – and then you're talking.

Lego Smart Play is extremely clever. On the face of it, the prospect of a Lego model being able to make sound effects as you play could sound pretty run-of-the-mill, but it’s how it makes those sounds and what it could mean for the future that really excites me.

The project has been in development for the last eight years and has involved the work of Cambridge Consultants, the deep tech powerhouse that is an expert in miniaturisation. There are no pre-recorded sounds in the smart bricks; instead, they use a synthesiser to create live sounds based on information from the sensors and the digital ID from the smart tile or minifigure.

The digital ID provides the smart brick with a series of rules, giving it a series of notes to play based on the readings from the onboard sensors. For instance, the accelerometer detects fast movement – play a flying sound, the light sensor detects a red colour – play the sound of the laser canons, the brick is upside down – make a crashing sound.

Where the technology really blows my mind, though, is through the Bluetooth connectivity between multiple smart bricks. This allows the bricks to share positioning information and relay data from their sensors to other bricks. In practice, this allows two models to interact, to play, fight or work together.

I spoke to Lego’s Chief Product and Marketing Officer, Julia Goldin and Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President and Head of Creative Play Lab, about what this means for the Lego ecosystem, as well as Mike Ilacqua, Global Head of Product for Lego Star Wars and Chris Gollaher, Senior Manager for Product Development at Lucasfilm, about bringing Lego Star Wars to life.

A new chapter

For Lego, Smart Play is an enhancement to its existing product, rather than a new chapter, and is often compared to the Minifigures that were first introduced in 1978. “It gives new possibilities to the LEGO system in play, says Julia Goldin, Lego’s Chief Product and Marketing Officer. “I think that it's a very important step because we're not deviating from our core, we're building into the core.”

While some of the sounds and actions of the smart brick may be obvious, others will take a little more exploring to discover. Certain sounds may only happen through an unusual interaction – like the purring sound you get through gentle stroking of a Dewback in the Lego Star Wars Mos Eisley set. There’s no instruction manual for this, it’s there as a surprise.

“I think it has tremendous possibilities,” says Goldin. “There are nurturing behaviours, there are animal behaviours, there's interactions between people, there are cops and robbers, there's racing. The possibilities are endless.”

Lego insists that with this new technology, we’re not going to see yearly updates for newer, better bricks. “We're not coming in with a two-year hardware refresh cycle,” says Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President and Head of Creative Play Lab at Lego. “We're investing in something that we believe will last for an extended period of time, with software upgrades rather than hardware upgrades.” Updates can be achieved over Bluetooth using the companion phone app, which is the only time a screen comes into use for Smart Play.

Screen-free play

During the CES keynote, Lego was keen to point out that using Smart Play is a screen-free experience for the play portion at least. “It’s not a message that we're anti-screen,” says Donaldson. “Screens tend to draw focus, so we did feel that it was important that we didn't have a screen to properly explore the other opportunities.”

Of course, the addition of tech means batteries, but Lego has an elegant solution to charging the bricks. A wireless tray is included in each set which is powered by USB. Up to two bricks can simply be placed on this tray and can be fully charged in under two hours. In use, the bricks will last for about an hour, depending on how heavily they are being used. “We found in some of our in-home tests that exceeds the amount of time that kids play for,” says Donaldson. Lego purposely wont fully charge the battery either, to help extend the life of the product.

In a galaxy far, far away

Though the Smart Play technology will no doubt be brought to a full range of products, the first sets are from the Lego Star Wars universe. This was no accident, and perhaps where this technology made the most sense. “We developed the play experience alongside the technology because we didn't want to have a situation where we developed the technology and then we tried to cram it into play,” says Goldin. “We opened it up to our designers to think about different potential areas where this technology can fit and the idea of epic Star Wars battles came up quite quickly.”

When kids play with Star Wars Lego, they naturally add their own sound effects to the play, so having the addition of the Smart Play sounds made sense. “It lends itself to epic storytelling and epic battles,” says Goldin. “We also wanted a partner who's very happy to work with us on something not tried before. Disney are also super focused on innovation, and they really embraced it.”

Recreating the iconic Star Wars sound effects meant that Lego had to get them sounding just right, which added pressure to the process. Ultimately, though, it helped to make the Smart Bricks even better. “You need something to hold the quality bar high to make sure you create a great product, so it was never a problem, says Donaldson. “It was a challenge, but it was a good challenge.”

A rebel alliance

Working directly with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company, Lego was able to tap into the epic storytelling and iconic characters and vehicles of the Star Wars Galaxy. According to Mike Ilacqua, Global Head of Product for Lego Star Wars, it wasn’t the sound effects that were the hard part. “We know when you listen to the lightsaber sounds when they're battling, it sounds like lightsabers. When you listen to the X-Wing, it sounds like an X-Wing,” says Ilacqua. “The part that needed a little bit more thought was, are the characters are going to talk, what are they going to do? The important thing was making it language agnostic, but also getting the personalities to still come through. I think that's been achieved.”

Having the Smart Play on board allows kids to create their own story, as you can mix up the characters and go very much off-script from the regular Star Wars timeline. “That's what the kids get the most fun from,” says Ilacqua. “It's putting a character in the X-Wing that you would never normally expect, and have it behave like that character would. Maybe that character, even in the minifig for,m will be more frightened than a Darth Vader would have been, so you get those interactions. I think kids doing those things, taking it off story, having fun, and having it react in a way that might not be expected, I think that's part of what makes this so magical.”

All three of the initial Smart Play sets are based on the original trilogy of Star Wars films. These include Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, a Throne Room duel and A-Wing set. Three more sets, including a Millennium Falcon, Mos Eisley Cantina and Landspeeder, were also teased. “We pretty quickly settled on starting with the original trilogy,” says Chris Gollaher, Senior Manager for Product Development at Lucasfilm. “One thing with Star Wars is it's a cross-generational, and we know that these are some of the sets, the characters that just have the widest appeal, and so it was a great place to start.”

While this new Smart Play system is definitely aimed at kids playing with Lego Star Wars toys, there’s no reason why we couldn’t see it come to those Lego Star Wars kits aimed at adults sometime in the future. “We definitely have designed this product line, you know, first and foremost with kids in mind,” says Gollaher. “We'll continue on the standard range of our LEGO Star Wars portfolio to build some amazing sets that are very much catered to adults in the Ultimate Collector Series and so forth. But I think one thing that we've learned over the 25-plus years of working together is that once you put a creative, something creative in our fans' hands, they will find really creative ways to use it.”

I can’t wait to see these Smart Play kits again when they go on sale in March, as well as what comes next. While none of the Lego team would be drawn on what products could come next, I’d be surprised if we don’t see the Smart Bricks in its Lego Speed Champions F1 cars and some of its other franchised themes, such as Batman, Harry Potter and Pokémon.

You might have thought Stranger Things was over – despite the behind-the-scenes documentary, and the rampant fan theories about a non-existent final episode that's still to come. It looks like we may get another era of tie-ins and merch, though, if Netflix has its way, and there's no better team-up for a brand than with Lego right now.

While there has been one Lego Stranger Things pack before, a few years ago in a very limited run that's now extraordinarily expensive, The Creel House marks the first time we've got a kit since then, and it's much bigger – with a really fun twist that makes it a super rewarding one to build.

The kit lets you build the house that played such a key role in the show's fourth season, as the kids slowly explored its horrendous rooms and found out some of the backstory that eventually led to the creation of none other than Vecna himself – and this kit lets you see all of that fun as you make it.

In its standard configuration it shows the house, along with minifigures for much of the main cast of Season 5 for you to arrange – plus a couple of external vehicles to fill out the scene. The real trick, though, is that the whole thing is built to transform.

If you carefully grab the two trees on the outside of the set and pull them apart, the set cleverly slides open, revealing a new side to the house, rendering it crooked and tumbled, with Vecna's evil presence revealed and his lair's nasty details showcased. These are best viewed from the back, where you can suddenly see Vecna himself along with a range of other neat props.

It's a really cool bit of kit design, and it ensures that as you build the house you'll be kept guessing as to how its different sections fit together. In truth, the transforming design also means that some sections of the house's exterior are not quite as snug and tight-fitting as they'd otherwise be, but that's a bargain I'm very happy to strike.

Plus, I haven't built too many Lego sets where after the main structure is complete I get to do two more mini-sets, effectively, which is what the radio van and Steve's car effectively let you do. Each has its own tiny instructions booklet, and comes in its own bag internally, making it really easy to save them for later if you like.

All in all, this is another super impressive licensed tie-in for Lego (just like the Star Trek set I built last month), and if Netflix has its wits about it we'll see many more sets in the next couple of years. Since there are already One Piece sets, too, and plenty of Lego series streaming on the platform, it looks like a partnership that should bear yet more fruit in the time to come.

Lego has unveiled its long-awaited Pokémon collaboration sets, including one that weighs in at a mighty £579.99 / $650.

The Lego Pokémon Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise set does contain three large scale favourites, which can be displayed separately or combined into a single vista, but it's not far from the sale prices of the Lego Millennium Falcon Ultimate Collector Series. That comes as somewhat a shock.

As does the Lego Pokémon Pikachu and Poké Ball, which is also available for pre-order now. That will set you back £179.99 / $199.99 – a darn sight more than the Mega Bloks Pikachu building set available from the previous licence holder.

Thankfully, there is one set that's more affordable, although it too is in the adult range of 18+ builds. The Lego Pokémon Eevee set is priced at £54.99 / $59.99.

Lego Pokémon: my take so far

Lego first announced it had secured a partnership with The Pokémon Company last March, with a tweet revealing the first sets would arrived in 2026.

It posted a teaser on X showing Lego bricks forming Pikachu's tail. In the meantime, we've had other Nintendo properties arrive – including the well received Lego Game Boy, which continues to be a favourite of mine.

But the main reason I'm a fan of that particular set is its price. Although Eevee is available at a more affordable price point, the fact that the flag-bearing Pikachu will set you back close to $200 is a strange opening gambit.

The series will undoubtedly continue into younger builds, I'm sure, with far cheaper sets. It's just expecting a lot of the fans Lego is hoping to attract with the new range.

When Lego announced that it was finally offering a truly enthusiast-level set for Star Trek fans at the start of 2026, I knew I had to get my hands on it, if at all possible. Thankfully, Lego itself was happy to help, so I spent half a dozen very happy hours over the Christmas period building the best set I've made since Rivendell.

The Enterprise isn't on the same scale as that kit in terms of the number of blocks in total, coming in at just over 3600 pieces in total, but what's really impressive is how architectural and large the set ends up being despite that somewhat modest count.

You build it in two distinct chunks, starting with the Y-shaped rear of the ship, with its two engine blocks sitting on a frame. Then, once that's ready and you have the large black stand also constructed, you get to turn to that iconic saucer.

Throughout, there are some real treats in terms of the inventiveness of the pieces being used. My favourite probably comes just below the saucer, in the first image above this paragraph – the engine vent at the front of the Y is made of two speedboat windscreens in a more vivid blue than usual.

The attention to detail, meanwhile, is typically impressive, too. Some of the authentic touches aren't even necessarily things you'll be able to point out to onlookers once it's built. For instance, at one point, you'll install a gold sticker representing the ship's dedication plaque, which can barely be seen once it's finished. As most big Lego fans will know, that sort of little easter egg is a huge part of the joy of a big build.

Speaking of stickers, you'll apply plenty as the build goes on, mostly in the form of logos and designations for the ship, but another big part of the set is the cast minifigures that you'll assemble as it unfolds. These comprise all of the main characters from The Next Generation, including the iconic Jean-Luc Picard and his closest allies. Each also has a little trinket to symbolise their interests, from a trombone (the first ever in Lego, apparently) to a pet cat.

As always with this sort of kit, a big part of the challenge actually comes after you finish it. After all, I've now got a seriously sizeable spaceship to manage in terms of display space, and I can confirm that my London flat is not exactly long on free surfaces.

The reality is that I'll probably do what I've done before, including for the huge Rivendell set that remains my favourite ever Lego kit. I take the time (and it does take time) to disassemble the set in reverse order.

This lets you divide the thing back up into numbered bags (sandwich bags in my case) that you can label yourself. The long and short of it is that this means you can build it again at a later date without the huge hurdle of every piece being in one massive pile. Frankly, if you ever wanted to sell a kit on it would also doubtless help.

So, if you're a Star Trek fan who's ever enjoyed building Lego, I'd get this one on your wishlist. Since going on sale at the very start of January, it's instantly sold out and gone on back order, but you can still get it on a realistic timeframe, so don't hang about. Lego Smart Play is the biggest update to the ecosystem in 47 years. Using a so-called Smart Brick, regular Lego constructions gain responsive audio effects, bringing them to life in your hands.

The Smart Brick is the same size as a regular 4x2 Lego piece and is universal, meaning you could put the same brick in any number of Lego sets and have a different result. Inside it is a speaker, accelerometers, light and sound sensors, an onboard synthesiser and a custom mixed-signal ASIC chip to run it all.

Depending on the Smart Tag or Smart Minifigure placed near it, the Smart Brick will deliver sounds to match those characteristics. These aren’t pre-recorded clips either, these are generated live to match the movement or behaviour of the Lego set it's in.

While only a small piece, the Smart Brick has been designed to amplify the sound from its onboard speaker through internal air spacing. This gives a clear and loud sound while interacting with the set.

Play smarter

The Lego Smart Tag is a 2x2 studless tile that, when placed on the model, delivers the information to the Smart Brick via a digital ID, telling it how to behave. The new Smart Minifigures look identical to regular Lego minifigures, but can also deliver information to the Smart Brick when placed on or near the model.

These Smart Bricks can also work together and are aware of each other’s positions through a Bluetooth-based protocol called BrickNet. This helps to trigger new sounds and effects when two models interact, and could make way for multiple Smart Bricks to be used in larger models in the future.

The bricks are be charged with a device that comes in the box and can charge more than one brick at a time, while a Smart Assist app allows you to update the devices and control their use. For general use, though, the Smart Play setup doesn’t require any network connection or external devices. Despite being advanced technology, it’s a completely screen-free experience.

The first models featuring Lego Smart Play will launch on 1 March 2026 and will be from the Lego Star Wars universe. So far, three sets have revealed, each featuring a Smart Brick, charger, Smart Tag and at least one Smart Minifigure.

Lego Star Wars Smart Play sets

One of the most iconic Star Wars ships, Luke’s Red Five X-Wing features heavily in the original trilogy and is recreated here in a 584-piece set. This Smart Play kit comes with two Smart Minifigures of Luke Skywalker (in his pilot suit) and Princess Leia – as well as regular rebel crew and Stormtrooper minifigures. There are five Smart Tags in the box too, including tags for the X-Wing, the Imperial Turret, the transporter, the command centre and R2-D2.

The Imperial turret, transporter and command centre models are also included in this set and, by adding the Smart Tags to them, can generate a range of extra sounds. Expect laser canons, engine sounds, refueling and repair noises.

The Smart Play version of Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter is a 473-piece set that also includes a Rebel Outpost and Imperial Fueling Station. The set includes one Smart Tag for the Tie Fighter and a Smart minifigure of Darth Vader, as well as a regular minifigure of a Rebel Fleet Trooper.

The third model is a large 962-piece Smart Play Throne Room Duel and A-Wing set. This is the location for the original battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader at the end of Return of the Jedi and features Smart minifigures of Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker. The set also includes an A-Wing fighter and cannon turret, with its own Smart Tag. There are also Smart Tags for the A-Wing, throne and two for the Lightsaber duels.

All models are available to pre-order from 9 January 2026 and on sale from 1 March 2026.

Christmas is a time for catching up with loved ones, eating as much food as you can get away with and watching a concerning amount of crap TV. But it’s also the perfect time to sit down and build some Lego.

As you’d expect from the toy-making giant, 2025 has seen countless new sets of all shapes and sizes enter the fray, and a lot of them are absolutely brilliant. But I’ve somehow managed to narrow things down to a list of three. Whether you’re gifting or you’re the hopeful giftee, here’s a trio of Lego sets that any self-respecting Santa Claus should be loading into his sack this year.

Nike Dunk x Lego

Do you like basketball, trainers and Lego? Then boy do I have the build for you.

Lego’s new collaboration with Nike has spawned a number of desirable sets, but this one is the most instantly iconic. You get to build the legendary Nike Dunk in its original high-top style, with hidden compartments for storing extra laces.

That sits next to a Dunk plaque, and topping it off is a brick-built basketball you can rotate. But there’s more.

This Nike-tastic Lego set also comes with a B’Ball head minifigure that can be stored inside the heel of the shoe. Stare at the whole thing for long enough and you might start to believe you’re Michael Jordan.

Lego Game Boy

Lego has released a lot of decidedly awesome Nintendo-themed kits in the last few years, but what if I told you that one of the most affordable sets to date is also arguably the best yet?

If you’re a gamer of a certain vintage then you probably have very vivid memories of cracking open your Game Boy for the first time and sitting cross-legged underneath the brightest light source you could find in your house to play Tetris until the battery conked out.

Nintendo’s seminal handheld has been recreated in painstaking detail in this 421-piece build. It’s a nearly 1:1 scale replica and comes with a buildable stand, multiple lenticular screens to insert, and cartridges for Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

It’s so authentic that you may well forget it isn’t actually operational. Sigh.

Lego Star Wars Death Star Ultimate Collector Series

Let me make something very clear: only the most optimistic of Christmas-enjoyers are going to be putting the £899.99 Death Star Ultimate Collector Series on their Christmas list. But don’t ask, don’t get, eh?

One of the largest Lego Star Wars sets ever conceived, this suitably intimidating build weighs in at a whopping 9,023 pieces, and comes with no less than 38 minifigures. 38.

It’s rammed with famous scenes and Easter eggs for Star Wars fans of all ages, from Luke and Darth Vader’s climactic lightsaber clash in the Emperor’s Throne Room, to a Stormtrooper taking a quick dip in the hot tub (one for all the Lego Star Wars video game fans there).

The whole thing is so meticulous that anyone lucky enough to receive this kit will likely be building right through to New Year’s Eve. It’s just a shame that you’ll have to do your bit for the galaxy by kicking it to pieces once you’ve laid the final brick.

The long-awaited return of Stranger Things has provided Netflix with a massive boost in the last week or so, according to its own stats, and the new season's first part has become its most-streamed English-language arrival ever. That means demand for merch and other extras is sky-high, something that Netflix historically hasn't always leant into.

Now, though, it finally has a partnership to get mega-fans genuinely excited, in the form of its first set with Lego. The Danish brick-builder has made a new kit up for pre-order on 4 January 2026, featuring possibly the most iconic location from Season 4 of the show: the Creel house.

After a quick teaser on YouTube shorts, embedded below, you'll soon be able to pre-order the kit through Lego directly, and doing so between 1 and 7 January will get you a little freebie in the form of a WSQK radio station set, also from the show.

The house was the site of the troubled childhood of Henry Creel, son of Victor Creel – with Henry being the young boy who'd eventually be transformed into the series' big baddie, Vecna. It's basically a prototypical haunted house, full of scary corners and one extremely menacing grandfather clock.

The kids repeatedly had to explore this hellhole of a house to help lift a curse on their friend Max, as you might remember, and it's one of only a few locations to really recur multiple times in the series, which has otherwise jumped around a fair amount. Crucially, you get a whole heap of minifigures in the kit, along with Steve’s car, the WSQK radio van and Will’s bicycle.

The house will apparently hide plenty of secrets, including a removable floor to reveal Vecna's lair, and you get a minifigure of Vecna himself to add to the fun. It looks like it'll offer up quite a varied build, thanks to those different elements, and totals 2,593 pieces, which is nothing to sniff at.

At £249.99, this isn't a cheap display set, but it's also not too bad compared to some other Lego sets with branded partnerships, on a per-brick basis. It'll be available to start pre-ordering from New Year's Day, which just so happens to be the day after the series finale airs – almost like this was all planned out.

How could Lego go one better than the full-size Lego F1 cars driven around the Miami Grand Prix? Well, for the Vegas Grand Prix, it looked to the king, Elvis Presley, for that element of style and created a 1950s pink Cadillac in the style of Presley's.

This full-size Lego replica was built using over 418,000 Lego bricks, and like the F1 cars, it is fully drivable. This time, rather than take part in the drivers' parade, the Cadillac was used to transport the race winners to the podium, with a special driver behind the wheel.

Actor Terry Crews, known for his roles in White Chicks, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Everybody Hates Chris, took on the chauffeur responsibility, with Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and George Russell in the backseat.

Earlier in the week, Lego also announced it was joining the F1 Academy series with its own Lego Racing car and driver Esmee Kosterman. This will see the Lego-branded racer compete throughout the 2026 season of the all-female series.

The choice of the Cadillac might have had more meaning, too. As the Cadillac F1 team will be joining the F1 line-up from 2026, with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez behind the wheels.

Lego's partnership with F1 continues in 2026, and I can't wait to see what it does next.

Lego has a new F1 car, but this one is fast. For the 2026 season, Lego Racing has joined the F1 Academy with a car kitted out in Lego livery and its own racing driver.

The F1 Academy is an all-female single seater race series created in 2023 that competes in 14 races around the world. The academy cars feature a 4 cylinder turbo 1.4 litre Autotecnica engine, six speed gear box and a top speed of 240km/h (149mph).

Lego Racing's first driver is Esmee Kosterman, a Dutch racer who has been one of the FIA's rising stars and has previously raced in the British F4 as well as the BMW M2 Cup, the Dutch Supercar challenge and the Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup.

To mark the occasion, there's a special Lego Racing F1 Academy Lego set that features not only the F1 car in the Lego Racing livery, but also a minifigure of Esmee to drive it. This is available to pre-order now from the Lego store but won't ship until 1 March 2026.

Back in May 2025, Lego wowed the Miami Grand Prix with 10 full-size Lego cars that were driven around the track by the F1 stars as part of the Drivers' Parade and at Silverstone in July, McLaren's Lando Norris raised a trophy made of Lego to celebrate his win.

This weekend at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Lego has created a full-size 1950s pink Cadillac – presumably to celebrate Cadillac Racing joining the grid from next year. The 418,556-brick build is inspired by Elvis Presley's car and weighs 2 tons. It even has a functioning trunk and spare tyre.

Lego has happily embraced classic tech design in recent years, not least with the Nintendo Game Boy set that's due for release on 1 October. But for all their nostalgic charm, few could hold a candle to one created by an amateur builder that's currently listed on the Lego Ideas site.

Celebrating Jony Ive's ground-breaking, late 90s reimagining of the Mac, the Lego iMac G3 is a work of art. It was created by amateur builder terauma and not only features the trademark translucent rear shell, but even includes accurate representations of the circuit boards inside.

The build has been made using 700 parts (a drop in the ocean in comparison with the 9,023 required for the new Lego Death Star Ultimate Collector Series) and every one has been chosen wonderfully to not only created the iMac itself, but the unique circular mouse and clunky keyboard.

Its creator used Lego design software Stud.io to create the build and make the several renders you can see on this page. However, all Lego Ideas submissions must be able to be build independently too. So if this ever was to become a full set, it would be a fun project.

Unfortunately though, that's not a given. And as a Lego fan and collector myself (as well as a former own of an iMac) that'd be a shame.

It definitely looks like this Ideas build will garner enough support to be considered as a real product, with 9,927 votes of a necessary 10,000 (at the time of writing), but getting approval from Apple could prove the biggest stumbling block (pun entirely intended).

We've seen other Apple builds on the Lego Ideas site before, which received enough followers for consideration, but they've languished in rights limbo. It looks like the superb Apple Store by TrumanBricks (via 9to5Mac) has already fallen at that specific hurdle.

Still, you've got to give it to these clearly talented Lego designers for their efforts. Even if it's unlikely we'll ever get to own one of their Apple sets ourselves.

There are few hobbies or areas of fandom that have not been Lego-ified at this point, and if you’re a fan of video games, you should visit a Lego store at your own risk.

There are countless brick-built tributes to some of the most beloved consoles and game series of all time, appealing to everyone from those who were there at the advent of the industry in the 1980s, to the modern-day gamer. And they all look pretty brilliant on display.

Here are three of our favourite video game Lego sets you can buy right now.

Lego Icons Pac-Man Arcade

Pac-Man is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, so there’s never been a better time to pick up one of the most impressively designed Lego sets I’ve personally ever built.

This dizzyingly intricate 2,651-piece build is based on a real Pac-Man arcade cabinet that you would have played on had you been hanging around such places in the ‘80s.

As well as the cabinet itself, you construct a Lego display and the iconic maze in which the game takes place. And although while the end result isn’t playable, the set is mechanical, so turning a side-mounted crank lets you at least simulate the chase sequence .

Lego was also generous enough to include the bricks required to build a miniature version of the arcade cabinet, complete with a minifigure, that lives inside the big one.

If you love retro gaming, this one is a must.

Lego Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart

It’s been a big year for Mario Kart, with the series returning with Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. So if you’ve got Spiny Shells on the brain, you should really take a look at this Lego set, which also launched earlier in 2025.

It’s a 1,972-piece replica of Nintendo’s moustachioed mascot and his go-kart, with a display stand in the box that ensures it looks great on a shelf.

The fully built plumber features a poseable head and arms, so you can have him with both hands on the wheel, or with his fist held triumphantly in the air.

If there’s a disappointment, it’s that you don’t get any Mario Kart items in the box, but there’s always the short-term option of a real-life banana peel to complete the look.

Lego The Legend of Zelda – Great Deku Tree 2-in-1

We are somewhat annoyingly still limited to just the one Lego The Legend of Zelda set, but it’s a good’un if you have the space (and money) available.

Coming in at a satisfyingly round number of 2,500 pieces, the Great Deku Tree is actually two sets in one. If your favourite Zelda game will always be Ocarina of Time, you can assemble the N64 classic’s version of the wise old guardian of the forest, with the appropriate minifigs for Link and Princess Zelda.

However, if your Zelda journey started with the Switch’s Breath of the Wild, you can build the Deku Tree from the 2017 game instead.

The differences between the two are fairly subtle, but the BotW variant has pink leaves, and you can outfit your Link in his blue tunic for that one. Make sure you keep the instructions handy, as Lego suggests building both, and why not?

Lego has finally unveiled its most eagerly anticipated Star Wars set of recent years – and it's as impressive as hoped.

The Lego Star Wars Death Star Ultimate Collector Series comes with a crazy number of pieces – 9,023 – which is a daunting build. However, it looks to be well worth the hours it'll take, as there's so much to it.

Presented as a cross-section of the first Death Star (with a spot of the second thrown in for good measure), the finished build includes a hanger deck, Emperor Palpatine's throne room, the trash compactor, and even the meeting room where Darth Vader puts a Sith force choke on Admiral Motti.

In fact, you also get a huge amount of minifigures to reenact just about any scene you fancy – 38 in total, including numerous Imperial characters, Palpatine, and a trio of Lukes (in original, Return of the Jedi and Stormtrooper garb).

And you even get an Imperial shuttle to sit in the bay.

There's only a couple of issues with the set. First, where to put it once built – it's a mighty 52.3cm high and 38.3cm deep. And second, it's not exactly what you'd call a pocket money present.

Coming for Lego Insiders on 1 October (for everyone else on 4 October), the Lego Star Wars Death Star Ultimate Collector Series set carries an RRP of £899.99 / $999.99 / €999.99. It's not quite a grand, but wow!

Maybe in a year or so it'll become the new Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon Ultimate Collector Series, which can be found heavily discounted for major sales periods, such as Prime Day and Black Friday. Let's hope so, as this deserves to be part of any Lego fan's collection.

Lego is a hobby that millions of fully-grown adults count on for unwinding after a long week, but most of them discovered the brick for the first time during childhood.

With screens more accessible than they ever have been, Lego can be a great distraction for young minds too, engaging both the logical and creative sides of the brain. Even better, enthusiastic kids give you the perfect excuse to join in yourself.

Here are three of the best Lego sets that you can therefore build with your young ones.

Lego Isabelle’s House Visit

We’re still waiting for Nintendo to announce the inevitable next Animal Crossing game, but in the meantime, the enduringly popular social simulation series has also been given the Lego treatment.

The town-building from the game has been authentically replicated in brick form, and the freedom to customise each build is great for creative kids.

All the Animal Crossing sets are great, but you can’t go wrong with Isabelle’s House Visit, which comes with minifigures of the titular Shih Tzu and Fauna, with Tom Nook thankfully nowhere to be seen.

There are loads of nice little details here, but my favourite might be the little cookie and doughnut pieces on the dining table that look a bit too edible.

Lego City Burger Truck

I really like this Lego City Burger Truck set, which Lego says is suitable for children aged 5+.

At 194 pieces, it’s a build you can probably get the kids to attentively sit through in one or two sittings, and as a reward they get to play with a decidedly awesome-looking fast food van with a detachable burger bar.

A hatch adorned with a flame-grilled-burger sign flips up to reveal the interior of the food preparation area, and you get both customer and chef minifigures in the box.

The only issue I have is that you get a brickified ketchup bottle included, but seemingly no mustard, which is very nearly a dealbreaker.

Lego Young Simba the Lion King

Technically, this brickbuilt Simba structure is targeted at Lego’s substantial 18+ audience, but while I definitely wouldn’t recommend letting an eight-year-old have at it unaccompanied, it’s a great build for an adult to take on with a child who has already shown an interest.

Released to mark the 30th anniversary of arguably Disney’s most beloved animated classic, the 1,445-piece Young Simba set features a moveable head that allows the adventurous king-in-waiting to do different poses, and naturally looks superb on display.

Just remember to listen to the original soundtrack while you build it together.

Everyone recognises the Millennium Falcon, and it’s no surprise that Lego has honoured Han Solo’s beloved freighter numerous times over the years. It’s often the flagship product in Lego’s always extensive Star Wars range.

But not everyone has room, or the money, for a table-hogging Millennium Falcon in their house – even when the Ultimate Collector Edition is reduced for Black Friday – so I’m here to point you towards some other Lego Star Wars builds that are just as worth having. Read on for three of the best.

Lego Star Wars AT-ST Walker

The Millennium Falcon might feature in many of Star Wars’ most memorable space sequences, but when it comes to land battles, is there anything more iconic than the sight of an AT-ST lumbering into view? I think not.

This 1,513-piece brick-built replica of the walker favoured by the Empire features a rotating head, a cockpit, and those unmistakable chin-mounted laser cannons, which can be adjusted to your liking.

You also get a plaque with the vehicle’s full name (Imperial All Terrain Scout Transport) and a driver minifigure in the box, with the latter presumably instructed to keep a close eye out for any mischievous Ewoks in your living room.

Lego Brick-Built Star Wars Logo

The Lego Millennium Falcon is incredible, but it’s also eye-wateringly pricey. If you want to show visitors to your home your affection for George Lucas’ enduring space opera without breaking the bank, why not get as on-the-nose as possible by building this 3D replica of the Star Wars logo?

Those big yellow letters are about as recognisable as any in the history of pop culture, and they pop even more against the set’s buildable black background with subtle greebling.

There isn’t much here in the way of secrets, but you can remove the top of the letter ‘T’ for a nostalgic nod to the film that started it all. This one naturally makes for a fantastic display piece, especially if you can surround it with the small army of Lego Star Wars minifigures you’ve no doubt collected over the years.

Lego Star Wars The Razor Crest

I’m certainly not going to sit here trying to convince you that Din Djarin’s trusty old rusty bucket, the Razor Crest, means more to Star Wars than the Millennium Falcon. Some debates just aren’t worth airing.

However, answer me this: did the Falcon ever have Baby Yoda (less catchily known as Grogu) in its cockpit? I think not, and that has to count for something.

This mega 6,187-piece recreation of The Mandalorian’s signature ride is about as authentic as it gets, and at 72cm long it's the largest Lego Razor Crest to date.

It obviously looks awesome from the outside, but you can also peer within to admire details like the blasters cabinet and carbon freezing chamber, while the rear hatch opens up for storing your minifigures. You’ll need that too, as you get five in the box, including Mando himself and, of course, a suitably adorable Grogu.

After numerous collaborations with Nintendo over the last few years, Lego set the internet ablaze in January with the tease of a Game Boy set.

It didn't reveal much about it at the time, but the very idea was enough to get collectors and retro gaming fans salivating at the prospect. And as I am both of those things, I could barely contain my excitement.

Now the Lego Game Boy has been fully revealed and I'm just as eager to get my hands on it – the final build looks incredible for a number of reasons. Even better news is that it won't even cost a fortune.

Available to pre-order from Lego in the UK and US now, the set is priced just £54.99 / $59.99. That's a long way removed from the £299 Lego Nintendo Entertainment System that's now been retired (although still available in some places online).

Rated for builders 18 and over, the Lego Game Boy is made up of 421 pieces and makes a "near" 1:1 scale replica of Nintendo's 80s handheld. It has a clear display behind which you can add one of three lenticular screens, which give the impression that the game is animating as you move it around in your hand.

They include the iconic Nintendo start-up screen, plus two of the most renowned games – Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. You also get buildable versions of their original cartridges.

They can even be slotted into the back of the finished handheld.

Every detail on the Game Boy itself seems to have been perfectly replicated. That includes the button layout, of course, but also the volume dial on the side and other ports and switches.

In truth, I've already pre-ordered one myself, for fear that it could become as popular on the build up to the holidays as the original was back in the late 80s/early 90s (depending on your location).

It seems like Lego has done it again.

Most Lego fans fall in love with the hobby as a child, but that doesn’t mean it’s for children only. Far from it, in fact.

Some of the best sets the company puts out these days are targeted specifically at its enormous adult audience, often playing on nostalgia or appealing to passionate fandoms.

Sure, the kids have fun with their Lego, but they don’t have the patience for these often incredibly meticulous builds that look amazing as display pieces.

From cinephiles to sport fanatics, there’s an adult Lego set for everyone, but I’ve picked out three of my recent favourites here.

Lego Ideas Jaws

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s early career-defining masterpiece, Jaws, and you can pay tribute to the film that invented the summer blockbuster in 1975 with this 1,503-piece Lego set. It recreates the scene where the shark takes his first of many nibbles out of the Orca.

The finished shark can be displayed in two ways: either breaching the water to face down Chief Brody, marine biologist Hooper and Quint the hunter, with all three characters included as minifigures; or on its own on a stand.

Brody’s iconic “You’re gonna need a bigger boat!” line is printed on a tile that sits on the base, so the only thing you need to add is your very best dun-dun dun-duns.

Lego Ideas Disney Pixar Luxo Jnr.

Pixar films are definitely for the whole family, but there are now millions of adults who grew up with the likes of Toy Story, The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. That's probably why Lego is aiming its Pixar Luxo Jr. build primarily at its 18+ audience.

The playful desk lamp has been the mascot of the beloved animation studio for decades, and this very manageable 613-piece set lets you recreate it in all its bouncing glory.

As well as the lamp itself, you also get to build the Pixar Ball it’s so often seen playing with, complete with hidden references to some of Pixar’s most famous films.

Lego’s Luxo Jr. is just as poseable as the on-screen version, and it’s just a shame it doesn’t function as an actual lamp, or you’d never need another one again.

Lego Technic Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car

We’re right in the thick of the current F1 season, and if you’re looking for something to do when you’re not glued to the TV watching the real thing, Lego’s painstakingly detailed replica of Ferrari’s SF-24 will keep you busy for a while.

Made up of 1,361 pieces, this 1:8 scale model obviously looks the part with its authentic Scuderia Ferrari livery, but a lot of what makes it so impressive is inside – you can take off the engine cover to reveal the fully buildable 1600 cc V6 engine, complete with a spinning MGU-H unit.

The car also has a two-speed gearbox, suspension and working steering. If you were only Borrower size, you could probably even take it for a ride.

What could beat winning the British Grand Prix? Forget the prestige, money and champagne, the real prize is this year's trophy. This stunning gold-adorned trophy is made from 2,717 Lego bricks to celebrate the 75th anniversary of F1 at Silverstone.

Last year, Lego announced its partnership with Formula 1 ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and earlier this season, it constructed 10 fully drivable full-size F1 cars for the Miami Grand Prix’s drivers parade. With this build, though, Lego took the prize – or rather, the winners took the Lego prize.

There are four Lego trophies in total, all inspired by the original Royal Automobile Club (RAC) trophy. The Drivers and Constructors models stand at almost 60cm tall and weigh over 2kg, while the 2nd and 3rd place trophies are a little shorter at around 43cm.

Driver-proof design

Samuel Thomas Johnson, the creative at Lego who designed the trophy, told me that the design faced a serious challenge to stop it from falling apart. “It would be the worst if it broke in half or snapped when the drivers held it over their heads,” said Johnson. So while the design is made completely of existing Lego pieces, some extra reinforcements were needed.

“In the centre, I used Lego Technic, so you can lock the pieces together in different directions, to create a kind of spine all the way through [the trophy],” Johnson explained. “Then our model shop in Billund helped me glue it together to be double safe. It’s a very solid item.”

The Lego team even analysed how each of the drivers celebrates, to see what stresses the trophy might have to withstand. “You have Lando, who slams the champagne down and hopefully doesn't smash it. And Lewis Hamilton, he throws the trophy up in the air, like a baby, and catches it,” Johnson explains.

It's all in the detail

If you look closely, there are some fun details on the trophies that make them uniquely Lego. “We wanted [the trophies] to still have Lego DNA, as well as the F1 and Silverstone stories wrapped into them,” said Johnson. “One of our collectable F1 cars is mounted on the front of the trophy, and on the top is a golden Lego brick.”

The design process started around Easter and has taken over two months to complete. Johnston normally works in Lego’s toy design area in Denmark, rather than the large model shop in the Czech Republic (where the F1 cars were built), so the design process was much more manual. “I still designed it digitally, because it’s a lot of Lego bricks,” said Johnson.

With 2,717 bricks in large trophies and 2,298 bricks in the smaller trophies, it would take around eight hours to put each of these together at home. However, there’s no plan to make this design available to buy… yet.

The next stage?

The question I had to ask, though, is where does Lego go next with its Lego F1 partnership? “I think this is probably not the last time you'll see something [F1] from the Lego Group,” said Johnston. “We’ve had those awesome cars, we have this awesome trophy. Maybe we'll just build a whole track. We could have our own Grand Prix in Billund, and they could come and drive on the plastic track.”

I’d love to see Lego sets of the Grand Prix tracks that you could build and display at home. The Monoco one would be epic for sure, and even Silverstone. For now, though, it’s only the British Grand Prix winners who get to have this Lego trophy in their cabinet.

Gamers have been spoiled with some great Lego sets over the last few years. We've had the Pac-Man Mini Arcade, Nintendo Entertainment System, the Atari VCS, and let's not forget the recent Super Mario Kart build for adults.

However, it's far from done with gaming and there's one set coming at the start of August that could be one of its best yet. Not least because it's amongst the most affordable.

The Lego Arcade Machine (40805) is a 468 piece build that forms a retro-style arcade cabinet for display. You can even put coins into the slots on the front, which then "swoosh" out underneath.

However, it also houses a surprise around the rear. Open the machine up and inside you can find a gamer's room, complete with video gaming paraphernalia, a sofa, an 80s computer, and a mini arcade cabinet for the included minifigure to play on.

It's not the most complicated stuff, but would look great in a retro gaming collection or on a desk. And unlikely some of the other sets I've mentioned above, this one comes in under £100 – well under, in fact.

Available from 1 August, the Lego Arcade Machine will actually cost just £34.99 in the UK, $39.99 in the US.

Admittedly, there aren't that many pieces, so it won't be a particularly complicated build – it's rated for 12 and up – but it stands 16cm (6-inches), so is still a decent size.

Where's the Lego Game Boy?

If you'd rather wait for something with a retro gaming theme but more substantial, the previously-announced Lego x Game Boy project is coming this October. We're also hoping to catch a glimpse in the next couple of months.

And don't forget that the Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart set is available now.

It comprises 1972 pieces and is designed for Lego builders aged 18 and over.

Rockstar released an all-new trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI just over a month ago and it blew us away. Everything in it mitigated any disappointment we felt over the game's delay to 2026.

It's even fair to say that it's one of the best game trailers in modern times. It'd certainly be hard to beat.

Or at least, that's what we thought. We've just seen a trailer that's arguably better.

It's actually the same trailer – of sorts – but this time recreated using Lego.

Made over a month by 16-year-old CGI animator LegoMe_TheOG, the Lego GTA 6 trailer remake is a faithful rendition of Rockstar's latest.

It's also available to watch in 4K (2160p) and therefore looks stunning when viewed on one of the best TVs. The animation is simply superb, and it makes us really want a Lego GTA game.

Funny enough, it's not the first Lego GTA 6 to have hit the net. The first appeared just a week after Rockstar's own Trailer 2. However, that one was made using AI and just looks wrong.

LegoMe_TheOG is clearly talented and manages to put together the visuals in cinema-quality. You should also check out his recreation of the Minecraft Movie trailer.

When will GTA 6 be available?

As for GTA 6 itself, it'll be released on 26 May 2026 and will undoubtedly be one of the biggest selling games of all time.

It has been confirmed for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, although there's no mention of a PC version being available at launch as yet.

If you can't wait until then, we've put together a few recommendations of games you can play in the meantime, which are/will be available across multiple platforms.

Watching Hamilton, Norris, and Verstappen take their cars off the grid at the Miami Grand Prix is a thrilling experience. The cars they are driving are in close formation as they head for turn one, but this race is a little different. Firstly, both drivers for each manufacturer are in the same car, with one driving and the other sitting behind them. Secondly, their cars are made entirely of Lego.

Lego’s multi-year partnership with Formula One was first announced at the Las Vegas race back in October 2024, but for the Miami Grand Prix, it built full-size versions of each of the 10 manufacturers’ cars in the race. The cars look like scaled-up versions of the Lego Speed Champions models you can now buy, and were on sale at the next stand at the race.

What it didn’t reveal until the parade, though, was that unlike previous full-size models, these can all be driven. Underneath the Lego frame is a proper automotive base, with a steel frame, 8Kw electric motor, Perrelli P Zero F1 slick tyres and hydraulic brakes. Inside the driver’s cab is a functioning Lego race steering wheel and pedals, all adjustable to suit the driver.

Against the clock

The Lego engineers were given just eight months to develop and build all 10 cars, to create something that not only looked authentic, but could take a full lap of the 5.3 km circuit in under 20 mins – the time given for the drivers’ parade.

Lego designer, Jonatan Jurion said one of the biggest challenges was the time limit. “We usually do one at a time. We were also wondering how to do the detailing, the functions and seating. We started by creating a mock-up of the cockpit and then building everything around it, so that would, define the scale and the proportions if we need it.”

Proprietary software is used by Lego to develop the main build of the car out of its trademark bricks. Then, it’s specialist designers worked on the forms and even how to display the sponsor logos in Lego form.

Building up speed

Each car is constructed from around 400,000 Lego bricks and took 2,000 man-hours to build. It uses standard bricks, so in theory, anyone with enough Lego in their collection could build this, just not make it drive. All of those bricks mean it’s actually pretty heavy compared to the regular Formula One cars, at roughly 1.5 tons.

The engineers had to find a way to get the Lego structure to work successfully with the Formula One wheels. “It was extremely challenging because we needed to make a connection between the Lego car and original rims. Also we had an extremely short steering rate, because there is not enough space for standard steering gear,” said Lego engineer, Martin Smida.

Lego on pole

The cars are being used for the driver’s parade but that didn’t mean that the pro race drivers were going to take the race any less seriously. These Lego cars might only have a top speed of around 20kmh, but the drivers eked out every last bit of power as they headed into the corners. There was a little contact at one point, as Lego bricks scattered from the nose of the Alpine, but the cars continued unphased.

So, who were the best Lego drivers? While Lewis and Leclerc in the Ferrari did take the lead for a while, it was Gasly and Doohan in the Alpine that finished first. A very different result from the one that came later that afternoon in the considerably faster and louder F1 cars.

Lego has been particularly busy when it comes to gaming tie-ins – it's opened pre-orders on the Mario Kart set for adults, is due to officially unveil its Lego Nintendo GameBoy soon, and has increased the amount of additional Mario builds for younger fans. However, its latest tease may prove to be its most exciting yet.

The toy manufacturer and The Pokémon Company have each taken to X to announce that it is set to be the new brick-building home for Pokémon.

We don't yet know what sets to expect, but the teaser clip posted on its social feed suggests a Lego Pikachu is a shoo-in. It's very unlikely to stop there too, with a mighty universe of Pokémon to choose from.

There are Pokéballs and other ephemera that could make for interesting builds too.

The only issue is that we'll have to wait a while because the Lego Pokémon sets aren't due to arrive until next year.

That's likely down to the fact that, until now, Pokémon has been exclusive to Mattel and its Mega range. Indeed, you can still get a whole stack of related builds from the brand, including a really neat Mega Pikachu (available on Amazon for around £70).

We suspect that the deal with Mattel will expire around, hmmm, 2026?

Considering how good some of the Mega sets are, Lego will certainly have to pull out all the stops for its launch products, and we can't wait to see them.

In the meantime, we'll make do with the forthcoming Mario Kart and one of our particular favourites, the Lego Super Mario: The Mighty Bowser. We'll especially keep our eyes peeled to see if it's available with a big discount during Amazon's Spring Deal Days event that starts next week – there are usually some great Lego bargains around then.

And if you want to catch up on the animated adventures of Pikachu and the rest of the Pokémon, there are all manner of episodes currently available to stream on Netflix.

Although Lego has released many a Mario set over the last few years, few have piqued my interest as much as the one that's just been launched.

Not since the Mighty Bowser set have I been so excited by the collaboration, but the Lego Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart set looks to be an ideal monument for any self-respecting gamer and Lego collector.

Made up of 1,972 pieces and priced at £149.99 / $169.99 / €169.99, the set is available to pre-order from Lego.com now. It's an 18+ build, so designed for adults and their bookshelves, and it stands at 19 x 32 x 22cm when constructed.

It features Mario riding his standard kart, which you can choose in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch (and the former Wii U version), although it doesn't look like the wheels can swivel to turn it into the hover version.

You can however alter Mario's pose, as the final build features a moveable head and arms.

The pre-order phase ends in a couple of months, with the set being made more widely available from 15 May. Hopefully, it'll be the start of a new collection of Mario Kart adult builds – we certainly wouldn't mind seeing Toad's kart made into a full set too.

You can of course pick up other Lego Mario Kart sets too, at much lower prices to boot. The Super Mario series includes several karts and scenery items from the game, including the standard kart along with a Toad character and a few additional items for under £20.

They're rated for a much-younger age group too, so you could build them with your kids, while also trying to tell them just how much better the original Super Mario Kart on SNES was (and arguably still is).

Lego and Nintendo have been collaborating for a while now, with a whole range of sets based on Mario. In addition, the two combined for a Lego version of the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 2020.

The toy manufacturer dabbled in the retro gaming field a further time since, producing the Atari 2600 a couple of years ago. And now it looks like it's going to have another stab at a classic console.

Nintendo has posted on its official X account that a new tie-in set is coming later this year, and this time it's quite possibly the most exciting yet. We're finally getting an official Lego Game Boy.

There are few clues on what it'll look like, which is no real surprise considering that it won't be released until October, but we do have at least some idea thanks to, well, Lego Ideas.

Lego Ideas is a community-centric part of the manufacturer's website whereby amateur builders can show off and propose their own creations. Others then get to vote on them, and the ones that get the most support have the possibility of becoming a real set one day – licensing permitting.

We've had some real success stories from Lego Ideas, including the Home Alone house and the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. And, if you look on their now, there's a Lego Game Boy concept made by builder ChaMi.

We expect the finished version to have a bit more finesse, especially when it comes to the game cartridge, but it's a great indication of what's possible. We just also hope that Nintendo does something cool with the screen, considering the animated game of Mario that appears on the Lego NES.

Sadly, it looks like we'll have to wait a while to find out for sure, as the launch date is a long way away, but I for one am allowing myself to get at least a little excited.

There have been some superb Lego Star Wars sets over the last few years, bolstered by the Ultimate Collector Series for adults.

The Lego Star Wars Millennium Flacon is undoubtedly the most popular – hence it sells out just about every major deals event – but there are plenty of others too. I'm building the Lego Star Wars Jabba's Sail Barge set at the moment, which is also epic.

However, they might all pale into insignificance if a rumoured new addition for 2025 comes true. An all-new UCS version of the Death Star is tipped by those in the know, and there are even claims that it could be the first to retail for $1,000 or more.

Now you'll probably find the last Lego Star Wars Death Star currently listed around that amount online, but that's because it has been retired and resellers have added a massive mark-up (it originally retailed for £410 in the UK). The new set is said to be coming with that ticket from launch.

Brick Fanatics predicts that rumoured build could come with more than 8,000 bricks (the Sail Barge has 3943 pieces, in comparison). However, it won't be the largest Death Star Lego has constructed in the past. That honour goes to the 500,000 brick monstrosity made for a themed exhibition at Legoland Windsor a few years back.

It stood as the centrepiece for the experience (which I visited around seven years ago) and measured 2.4-metres wide.

The new model obviously won't be that big, but it'll still make a major dent in your display cabinet or on a bookcase... it'll also make a mighty dent on your bank balance. But just think of the fun you'll have in building it.

We'll update when we have official details of the set – if it does turn out to true.

In the meantime, here are a few other, less wallet-busting Lego Star Wars builds you might want to consider instead.

Lego is finally following-up one of my favourite sets of the last couple of years.

I bought the Lego Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck in the Black Friday sales a couple of years ago, being both a fan of the game and Lego itself. But the only problem is that it has looked forlorn standing there on its own ever since. If only it had some extra machines to expand the scene.

Well now, thanks to the release of the official Lego Horizon Adventures game, my wish has come true – Lego has just announced a new set based on the PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC title.

It contains 768 pieces which are used to make a new Aloy minifigure, along with one for her ally Varl. You also get a Shell-Walker and a Sawtooth, plus scenery.

The Sawtooth has opening jaws, a swivelling torso and posable neck, head and arms, while the Shell-Walker has posable legs and arms, plus opening claws. It also comes with a detachable cargo pod and energy shield, for multiple scenarios.

The set is rated as a 9+ build – quite different to the 18+ collector's edition Tallneck, but they certainly complement one another.

Hopefully, considering the new game, there will be other sets on the horizon too (pun entirely intended).

For now, Lego Horizon Adventures: Aloy & Varl vs Shell-Walker and Sawtooth is available to pre-order from Lego.com from today for £39.99 (around $50). It'll ship from 1 March when it'll also be available on general release.

The new Lego Horizon Adventures game is already available, while the Lego Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck set has been discontinued. However, you can still purchase it from some retailers in the UK, US and other regions.

Lego will soon introduce a new set that will have me putting my hand in my pocket immediately.

Not yet officially announced, the Lego DC 76328 set has nonetheless appeared on Smyths Toys for pre-order in the UK. It's a 1,822 piece build of the Batmobile from the 1960s TV series, complete with a minifigure of Adam West's Batman.

Lego has a long-running partnership with Warner's DC comic brand and has released numerous Batmobiles as part of its adult lineup in the past, including the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, and the 1989 Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman.

The latter is now discontinued, but can still be found listed on some retail sites.

Neither of them hold a candle to the classic car from the cheesiest show on TV, though. And I'm thrilled it's finally coming as a major Lego set.

According to the Smyths Toys' listing, it features a moulded windscreen, rotatable wheels, authentic decorations, and a boot that opens to reveal the Bat-Computer. You also get a "chassis plate" listing some of the set's features for display.

The pre-order page states that stock is expected to be available from 1 October 2024, so it is unlikely to be long before Lego announces the set formally. And remarkably for a build this big (and long-awaited) it's currently priced at just £129.99.

In comparison, the Batmobile Tumbler is £229.99 and only features a couple of hundred pieces more.

It's worth noting that Lego fansite Brick Fanatics claims the Tumbler will also be discontinued before the end of the year, so if you want to make sure that's in your collection, you need to order one soon.

It seems it's a one-in, one-out policy for Batmobiles at Lego these days.

Oh, and if you fancy catching up on the masterpiece that is the 60s Batman series, there are four seasons available to buy on Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV right now. And you can rent or buy the 1966 Batman: The Movie from multiple digital retailers, including YouTube.

Now all we need is a Lego Shark Repellent Bat-Spray.

The Technics SL-1200 is one of the most famous turntables ever made, and when we reviewed the rebooted Technics SL-1200GR we gave it the full five stars. Now there's a new version that's just as desirable – there's only one slight problem... while it's faithful to the legend in almost every respect, it can't play records because it's made entirely out of Lego.

The turntable has been created by Lego Ideas poster Tomasso and it's made from "about 2,215 pieces". It's not a perfect copy of the original – Tomasso has deliberately made it look more toy-like so it's a better fit with the Lego universe – but it does copy all of the key features from the iconic SL-1200 MK2. 

A legend in Lego

According to Tomasso: "This is arguably the most iconic and recognisable turntable ever made. It would be a cool addition to any DJ's, music lover's, or technology enthusiast's display collection.

"It is a historical piece that has shaped the world we live in."

He's right about that, as we said in our SL-1200GR review: "The word 'iconic' is bandied around willy-nilly these days, to the point where it has lost all meaning. However the Technics SL-1200 is a genuine icon."

The details Tomasso has included are:

• A built-in motor to drive the turntable
• Start and Stop buttons to control the motor
• Platter shaped in the scale of a 7-inch vinyl record
• A working tonearm with adjustable balance weight and anti-skating knob
• An adjustable pitch slider
• A removable 45 rpm adaptor

As with all Lego Ideas submissions, this isn't a product as yet. For that to happen, sufficient people need to vote for it.

With the modern advent of the best streaming services, it's fair to have assumed that traditional means of viewing TV might have waned. These services tend to be a little more on-trend, offering shows and movies which are tailored specifically to their audience.

Anyone with kids will know just how valuable that is, particularly with the summer holidays now upon us. So, how easy are they to use? And just how big is the discount? Let's take a look.

How to get cheap Legoland tickets via Sky VIP

As mentioned, you'll need to head into the Sky VIP section of your My Sky app. From there, you'll be able to redeem a unique code, which is valid for up to four tickets at the park. Those can be redeemed in any mix of adults and children, too.

Those tickets are incredible value at just £17.50 each. You'd usually pay £54 for the same tickets, making this an unmissable saving.

All of the codes are offered on a first come, first served basis. That means you'll need to act fast to redeem them, before they're all gone.

It might be a decade old now, but the McLaren P1 is still one of the greatest, most technologically advanced hypercars of all time – and now you can build one for yourself, in 1:8 Lego form.

The latest addition to Lego’s Technic collection is an orange and black McLaren P1, complete with vertically-hinged doors, working steering and suspension, a deployable rear wing, moving gear shift paddles and even pistons that move authentically inside the turbocharged V8 engine.

You’ll need plenty of space for this kit – and plenty of time to build it, too. There’s a whopping 3,893 pieces in all, and the completed car is 1:8 scale. It measures 14 cm tall, 59 cm long and 25 cm wide.

Available from 1 August and priced at £389.99 (€449.99), the McLaren P1 Lego kit is part of the Lego Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series. This also includes the equally large Ferrari SP3 Daytona and Lamborghini Sian FKP 37.

Lego designer Kasper Rene Hansen said: “From the exterior with aerodynamic shapes to the interior and V8 piston engine - the real McLaren P1 is an incredible car. We wanted to capture these details in the best way possible with our LEGO Technic model and we did not want to compromise in any way

“Therefore, we worked on multiple variations of the car to test different designs. We also faced a huge challenge with the iconic butterfly doors because they needed a new mechanism to stay open. It was a great experience to recreate the McLaren P1 and I’m hoping all supercar enthusiasts out there are ready to explore the details and intricacies of the real McLaren P1 in Lego Technic form.”

McLaren’s first hybrid, the P1 formed what became known as the hypercar ‘Holy Trinity’, along with the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder. The P1 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine and an electric motor with a tiny, 4.7 kWh battery, and has a total power output of 903 horsepower. That sort of figure isn’t too unusual these days, and some electric hypercars are even knocking on the door of 2,000 hp, but back in 2013 a near-thousand-horsepower hybrid was a very big deal indeed. 

A spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 of the mid-90s, the all-carbon P1 accelerates to 60 mph in a little under three seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 217 mph. The car can drive for about six miles on electric power alone, but the hybrid system is primarily intended to supplement the engine, resulting in more potent acceleration and no drop in torque between gear changes. The P1 launched with a base price of £866,000 plus options, and 375 examples were produced. Today, examples sell for between £1 million and £2 million.

We love the tie-ins with gaming and technology that Lego has released over the last few years, including the recent collaboration with Polaroid for a brick version of the OneStep SX-70 camera.

However, while that was more something to display, it's next dabble with classic tech takes things to a whole new level – the Lego Retro Radio not only looks the business, it actually works as a functioning device.

Once built, the left-hand knob switches the radio on or off, while the second can tune between stations. However, you can't use it to listen to AM/FM or digital radio broadcasts (not directly, anyway). Instead, you get a set of pre-recorded dummy stations, with fake sports broadcasts, radio static, and DJ banter as you turn the dial.

That doesn't mean you can't listen to actual music on it though, as there's the ability to place your phone into the Retro Radio and play tracks through the speaker on the front – and that includes streaming services, like Spotify and Apple Music.

You will need to manually select the tracks, either by touch on the phone's display or via voice, but it's a neat trick for a Lego build. Think of it as an Android or iPhone dock that sounds like a classic 50s / 60s radio.

The other thing about this set is that the final build is, in our opinion, stunning. We'd happily have it sitting on a shelf, even without the music playback capabilities.

The set comes with 906 pieces and is recommended for builders 18 and over – it's very much in the collectable Lego Icons series, after all.

Lego Insiders will be able to purchase it from 1 June 2024, while general sale will start on Lego.com a few days later, on 4 June.

Do you know how to get a boost start in Mario Kart? You have to hold accelerate just as the '2' starts disappearing on the countdown. Luckily I don't think you'll need perfect timing with the latest arrivals in the franchise,

Teased as part of Mar10 day (March 10th, get it?) the brief video - just 18 seconds long - revealed that the sets will be racing in 2025, so there's time to save up your gold coins still. 

That was far from the only Lego set based on our favourite Italian plumber announced, however. Coming in 2024 is the Bowser Express train, a massive 1392-piece set with a train featuring the Koopa King's likeness as well as accompanying carriages. Sticking with the villains of the series is King Boo's Haunted Mansion, a 932-piece set which looks spookily fun.

Back to the kart racer, however, what can we expect from the sets? Well, the teaser has a silhouette of the classic default kart design, which is pretty much a given but I'd love some of the character-specific karts and bikes to make their way to shelves too. I'd expect at least a few to come with one of the signature weapons in the series (at least a banana). As for bigger sets, can we possibly get a massive Rainbow Road-inspired build?

So why is the Mario Kart gear coming out later? Well 2025 is pretty much confirmed as the year we'll see the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, and perhaps there'll be a new Mario Kart game to coincide with the Lego release. Mario Kart is the best game on the current Switch so it makes absolute sense that it would be a killer app for a new console. I for one will be using a Bullet Bill to be first in line if that is the case. 

Lego is a rare breed of toy brand – one that appeals as equally to adults as it does kids. That's in no small part thanks to some amazing builds available in its Lego Ideas range, which often capitalise on fond memories held by its audience.

The Lego Atari 2600 is a particular favourite, along with the Nintendo Entertainment System and Pac-Man Arcade Machine. And who can forget the Stranger Things and Home Alone houses?

Now there's a new set on the horizon that's steeped in 70s and 80s nostalgia as it almost perfectly apes a Polaroid Instant Camera from the period.

Not officially announced as yet, the Lego Polaroid OneStep Camera set was accidentally listed on a Polish retailer's website (via Jay's Brick Blog). It is likely coming at the start of next year and, yes, we very much want one.

Seemingly life-sized, it features a replica of the Polaroid Land Camera 1000 that was originally released in 1977 but is perhaps more synonymous with the 1980s (we even own an original ourselves).

The set seems to have some nice extra touches too, such as a box of film and a few Lego-themed "instant photos". It's based on the successful Ideas submission by Minibrick Productions and, according to the leaked packaging, consists of 516 bricks.

That means it's not a particularly complicated build, although that should also keep the price down to more affordable levels. We're still awaiting the actual cost, at present.

In some ways, it's a shame that the Polaroid set won't be available for Christmas. But you could always save up some of that gifted cash, as it's thought that it'll be released around 1 January 2024.

You can even match it with the Lego Retro Camera set that will also be available from the same day. That's part of the Creator range and costs just £17.99, so won't break the bank.

Now all we need is a Lego digital camera to complete the set... anyone up for a Hasselblad collaboration?

It doesn't matter how old you are, Lego holds a certain fascination. In fact, thanks to the expansion into adult and creator sets there's a Lego set for just about everyone. Though once limited to the imaginary Lego universe, a revamp saw collaborations with Star Wars, Disney and more, that giave it a whole new audience. 

Today Lego stores are as much for the adults as they are for the kids, with retro game consoles, cars and city scapes all delivered in thousands of small plastic bricks. For that reason, Lego makes a great gift this time of year and luckily there are some great deals to be had too.

Did someone say 'Christmas'? I've more than heard mutterings about 'the big day' in recent times, which means it's time to get prepped for the countdown by bagging one of the best Advent calendars. But not any ol' chocolate-filled Advent calendar, oh no, let me tempt you with a whole bunch of Lego Advent calendars – because everything is awesome. 

Even more awesome, it so happens, because all of these Lego Advent calendars are discounted as part of the best Black Friday deals – and the 'worst' thing is that I don't know which one to pick. I should probably hurry up and make up my mind, though, as these limited-time deals are among those likely to sell out this weekend if previous Black Friday events are anything to go by. 

Pac-Man is 43 years old today but thanks to Lego he’s never looked better. The wizards at the brick company have created a functional arcade cabinet to celebrate — and to be honest, I’ve come down with a bad case of Pac-Man fever for what looks like one of the best Lego sets.

Launching on the 4th of June, Lego’s collaboration with Bandai Namco’s most famous character is not just for decoration. While you can’t play a full game of the arcade classic, you can simulate it with a mechanical crank to operate the (all Lego) inner workings and move Pac (as his friends call him) and his ghost rivals. 

The top of the 2651-piece build features a scene of Pac-Man being chased by Blinky and Clyde that can be reversed to symbolise the turning of tables when Pac-Man eats a power pellet (the big ones in the corners). Little ones who want to get involved can assemble the minifig Arcade scene that comes included with the cabinet. 

This £229 cabinet is the result of a collaboration that has been a long time coming with Namco-Bandai revealing that Pac-Man’s signature yellow colour was inspired by Lego bricks. Other loving details on the build include a light-up insert coin slot (no coins required), a moveable joystick and a high score display.

At 13” tall, this is an easier sell to your loved ones than shoving a full-size arcade cabinet into your front room but I’m excited at the potential crossover possibilities. Imagine a whole arcade with Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Bubble Bobble, Outrun and Street Fighter. I might never leave the house again. Of course, Lego loves more modern games too, with the likes of the Tallneck from the Horizon series also getting the brick treatment.

The best LEGO Star Wars sets got a brand new model today in the shape of the new X-Wing Ultimate Collector set – and now there are even more LEGO Star Wars sets to excite and delight you. As part of Star Wars Celebration, LEGO has launched two sets celebrating iconic scenes from Return of the Jedi: the Endor Speeder Chase and the Emperor's Throne room.

Some of the best LEGO sets are very complex – the new X-Wing has 1,949 pieces – but these are slightly less of a commitment: the Endor Speeder Chase has 608 pieces and the Emperor's Throne Room has 807. They may be quicker to build but you'll want to show them off just as much.

Two memorable scenes, two must-have sets

With the Emperor's Throne Room you're getting a very accurate representation of Emperor Palpatine's Throne Room from the rebuilt Death Star, with its instantly recognisable window and the Emperor's inimitable chair. You also get three minifigures – Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and of course, Emperor Palpatine. Luke and Darth's lightsabers are in hand, but the Emperor is more sneaky: his saber and his bolts of Sith lightning are hidden underneath.

If you prefer your Endors to your indoors (sorry!), the Endor Speeder Chase brings you Luke and his speeder racing through the lush forests of Endor, and the minifugures here are Luke, Leia and a Scout Trooper.

Both sets are highly detailed and include a display plaque containing a memorable quote from the movie. They're available for pre-order now and will go on sale on the 1st of May; the Emperor's Throne Room is €99.99 / $99.99 / £89.99 and the Endor Speeder Chase is €79.99 / $79.99 / £69.99.

The best LEGO Star Wars sets are brilliant things, and they're up there with the very best LEGO sets of all kinds. If you've been hoping for a new Star Wars project to get your teeth into, you're going to love what LEGO just announced. It's 1,949 pieces of sheer Star Wars joy.

The new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Starfighter is based on the iconic T-65 X-Wing from the Star Wars saga, and it's incredibly detailed right down to its Incom 4L4 fusil thrust engines and Taim & Bak KX9 laser cannons. First seen in Star Wars: A New Hope, this particular fighter was manned by the Rebel Alliance's most elite pilots and played a key role in the nerve-shredding battle between Luke and Darth Vader in the trench of the Death Star.

A Star Wars ship you're going to want to show off

The new set joins other iconic vehicles from the Ultimate Collector series: the AT-ATTM, the Millennium Falcon (our current pick of the best LEGO Star Wars sets), the Razorcrest and Luke's Landspeeder. And like those sets the finished model is massive: it's 55cm (21.5 inches) long, 44cm (17.5 inches) wide and 27cm (10.5 inches) high, making it a great bit of home decor when you're done. You can display it with its wings open or closed, and it comes with Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 minifigures and a display plaque. 

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Starfighter will be available to LEGO VIP members on the LEGO Star Wars site and in LEGO stores too from the 1st of May. It's set number 75355 and its price is £209.99. 

If you can't wait that long to take a loon, it'll also be on display at the forthcoming Star Wars Celebration event in London this week: the event runs from 7th to 10th April and you'll find the X-Wing at the LEGO booth.
