Developed by Google in conjunction with the Open Handset Alliance, Android is an open source operating system for mobile phones.

The first handset sold with the Android platform was the T-Mobile Google Android G1, while the Android Market is a direct competitor to the Apple App Store, but is completely open source. This has attracted developers to the platform, and resulted in a rich variety of apps - let the battle continue!
