TomTom GO 700 satnav

Spin us right round, baby, right round.

Quick - grab one of those reverends from the Deep South that are happy to marry farmers to their cattle. We're in love, and we don't care if it's with a box of electronics.

While the GO 700 isn't drop-dead gorgeous to look at, as with any prospective life partner, it's what's inside that matters, and this GPS unit for the car has really won us over with its easy-to-use interface and impressive attention to detail.

The first thing that'll catch your eye is the gloriously fluid map display, which glides along to match your progress. It transforms roundabouts into the best part of driving: just watch the map effortlessly spin around as you pull 360 after 360. You'll be there all day.

We also liked other touches, such as the way all major turning manoeuvres are accompanied by the map zooming in to make certain you don't veer off course. And just listen to the nice lady giving out directions! It's like having your girlfriend actually know where she's going (harsh but fair, ladies!).

The package is bolstered by some deft extras, including a remote control that stops you having constantly to stretch over to reach the touchscreen display. Bluetooth mobile owners - and that'll be a few of you - can also use the TomTom as a hands-free kit.

Overall, this is a quality product that wins friends and influences people on the strength of its intuitive user interface. If we had to complain about anything, we'd say the touchscreen could be more sensitive, but that's just being pedantic.
