Sony Ericsson K608i mobile phone

A supermodel-slim stunner of a 3G handset.

As 3G mobiles become increasingly smaller and sleeker, evolving from their tissue box-sized beginnings, you need to ask yourself exactly what you want from the service. If it's video downloads such as football highlights and maybe even the odd bit of soft-core then one of the big-screen megaliths would be the ideal handset. If, however, you're looking for cheap calls, the occasional rapid download and maybe the odd video, this slimline Sony Ericsson will fit your life like a mink-lined glove.

It's without doubt the most attractive 3G phone yet. A "candy bar" that looks good enough to eat; it's slim and light enough to pass for a standard mobile.

It also conforms to SE's design template of making the backs of its phones look like cameras. In this case it's a 1.3-megapixel number which is easy to use and produces excellent images, with bags of contrast and good detail. You miss the autofocus of the K750i, but that's the only complaint bar the lack of expandable memory for storage.

Using 3's impressive download service the screen and speakers are adept at replaying Charlotte Church's latest warblings, although sports highlights are harder to follow on the small - but clear and colourful - screen. Beyond 3G there's a truckload of other useful features including Bluetooth, a diary and contacts database and impressive battery life. Call quality is also first-rate, both voice and video - although whether you can really get used to the latter is up for debate.

This is a fantastic phone, and even beyond its excellent 3G capability we'd recommend it highly. It's got almost every feature you could expect from an up-to-the minute handset, and looks absolutely delicious too.
