Nokia 6600 slide mobile phone review
On sale in Past Times now...
If you harp after the days of old, and your gadgets are starting to appear on the Antiques Roadshow you’re going to love the Nokia 6600 slide. Sticking with Nokia’s classic mobile blueprint it takes you back to when phones were, well, dull.
This phone just works. Updated from the even older 6500 slide it looks pretty, sporting a sleek black finish with some “modern” blue tapering on its side. Sliding open like a futuristic door out of Star Trek, it includes Nokia maps and an Opera web browser with GPRS to boot. Yet it still doesn’t feel special.
Still waiting for the 8.0-megapixel mammoth from the Fins this has a paltry 3.2-megapixel camera but at least is has a flash. Pics are what you’d expect from Nokia's phones but it doesn’t push the envelope, despite being small enough to be posted in one.
Not looking out of place in an episode of “Life on Mars” the keypad (yes, we said keypad) is a bit too fiddly in size for the average man to work at speed, without descending into a murderous, phone-launching rage.
It does however have all the functionality Marty Mcfly would need in a phone without ‘real’ email or ‘proper’ internet usage. It doesn’t pack Nokia’s Comes with Music, but comes with in-ear headphones with remote and one of the funkiest pre-loaded tracks ever.
The speakers were impressive too and managed to fill a noisy room despite their virtually microscopic size. When the headphones are functioning (they dropped out at times) you can fill your separately purchased 16 GB memory card with.mp3, .mp4 and even .wma video to watch on the 640x480 screen.
With USB, Bluetooth and GPRS it’s not short on connectivity to keep you entertained. Also the 3D rally game is highly addictive, the football game…not so much.
If you’re still with us and debating whether to jump into your Ford Cortina, and hot foot it to your local antique shop to purchase the 6600 slide, this could tip it for you. It has a… radio. Go, go, go.
