Nokia 3220 mobile phone

Nokia knocks out another handset hit. And this one's a real Bobby Dazzler!

"Mobile disco" - two little words that no longer have to signify a third-rate DJ with a knackered old van and a crateful of P-A-R-T-Y CDs. Now the term can also be applied to something far more appealing - a phone with strips of orange, red and green LEDs along the sides that light up in time to your ringtone. Dazzling stuff.

Overall, this handset is a solid piece of Finnish engineering too, with a decent (if small) screen. Annoyingly, the keypad is fiddly to use, but such trifles are brushed aside when you see the Nokia's next trick: an incredible "wave-writing" add-on (£30) that enables you to write illuminated messages in thin air by waving the model back and forth. Bo selecta!
