LG F2400 mobile phone
It's John "Back to Basics" Major's ideal handset.
As smart phones and flash phones become ever more sophisticated, some folk are crying out for a slice of the simple life. As far as they're concerned, a good-looking device that enables you to talk to people from a distance is really all you need. And that's pretty much what you get with LG's F2400, available exclusively on Orange.
There's no mega-memory on board, no video camera, no music player and only one Java game. What that leaves you with is a neat, compact, dual-band clam-shell that feels sturdy and tough, while managing the trick of looking efficient and businesslike as well as chic.
Its sleek appearance is partly down to the fact that it's free of the traditional LG external aerial, and also aided by a vibrant, 65,000-colour outer screen for displaying incoming-call details. Open her up and you'll find a nice, full-sized LCD that's easy to read and good for framing snaps.
That's right: there is one clearly superfluous extra here - a camera - but rather disappointingly, it takes pretty dull pictures and suffers more than most in low lighting. There isn't much to brag about in the way of photo-editing facilities either, although you do get a six-shot burst mode and 4MB of memory for storage.
Among the model's other modest resources are Bluetooth for both headsets and data transfer (although there's no infrared), a WAP browser, an organiser and a voice-notes feature. It all adds up to a neat-looking little mobile that does most of the basics pretty well - perfect for the "keep it simple" brigade.
