i-mate JASJAR smart phone

Because sometimes it's about more than talking.

If this PDA smart phone was a circus performer, it'd be a juggling contortionist. Not only does it have a novel twisting screen, but it's also able to keep Wi-Fi and 3G connections in the air at the same time.

Thanks to the swivelling screen, you can use it as a mini laptop or as a standard PDA. It's a neat trick, but unfortunately this twisty mechanism is part of the reason why it feels quite big and chunky.

Connection-wise you get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi plus a 3G phone, so no matter where you are, you should be able to get a data signal. With Wi-Fi, you can use the pre-loaded Skype software to make cheap calls over the Internet. You can also make 3G video calls thanks to the presence of two cameras: one with a 1.3-megapixel resolution and a secondary one with lower VGA resolution.

It uses the latest Windows Mobile 5 software, which stops any data being deleted if the battery konks out. You also get a new version of Windows Media Player with better sync options. You can control this and the mini Microsoft Office applications either via the stylus that slots into the base or by using the mini keyboard. The keys are pretty dinky, so touch-typing is out, but they're good for thumb typing.

It might be packaged up in the chunky body of a strongman rather than the slim frame of the trapeze artist, but its elegant multi-talented performance means this PDA is still a highly likeable addition to the cast. Watch out for it making an appearance soon on O2 billed as the XDA Exec, on T-Mobile as the MDA Pro and on Orange as the SPV M5000.
