Newer RoadTrip in-car iPod kit

The stripped down transmitter that's surprisingly good.

This is by far the simplest transmitter-cum-charger we've seen, and so easy to use that even veteran heavyweight boxers should be able to set it up. There's no display, because it only has one broadcast frequency - just plug the Roadtrip into your car's cigarette lighter, tune your radio to 87.9 and you're laughing.

It works with all dockable iPods, but the design could be better; it's compact, but nothing holds your player in place.

If having only one frequency sounds slightly dodgy to you, fret not: the device works just as well as the others here, even in transmitter-heavy southeast London, where we conducted this test.

Again, you get a touch of interference when the music's playing, but once something like The Strokes' Barely Legal kicks in, you hardly notice it - it's drowned out by the song and road noise.
