This portable LCD TV has a USP: its speakers fold in over the screen when you're not watching the telly to reveal a clock, a thermometer and a hygrometer (they measure moisture in the air). So Hanspree is tapping into the three great British obsessions: time-keeping, the weather and TV - hopefully their next model will also dispense tea and lager, and be riddled with sexual guilt.
Sadly, all is not well here. It's designed to be portable, with its folding speakers and a pop-out stand, but you can forget using this in the car as an aerial needs to be hooked up and there's no fag-lighter adaptor. It's also meant to be stylish - inspired by a slick men's sports watch, so they say. Er, yes. Just as the clean lines of an oil tanker are inspired by Ferrari.
Picture and sound quality are OK, but the 12-inch, 4:3-format screen and analogue tuner lumber you with just five channels and no widescreen. Only S-video and composite - via adaptor - are supported.
We're all for quirkiness, and it's always handy to know what the weather might be doing. But unless you have a highly eccentric idea of "style", you're not going to get much out of this.
