BenQ Joybee 180

A low-capacity MP3 player that's just a little too middle-of-the-road

It might be a dead ringer for one of those old-school mint boxes, but the 256MB Joybee 180 is one of the better low-capacity MP3 players. Aimed more at the show-offs than exercise addicts, it has nasty interchangeable covers, albeit complemented by a pretty mirrored screen. It plays WMAs as well as MP3s, and DRM compatibility should mean it copes with downloaded Napster and SonicStage tracks. Also on board is an FM radio, although the FM transmitter - which enables you to tune into the player's music on an FM radio - has been disabled for the UK market due to broadcasting laws. What kills it is value - Rio's Nitrus (T3 96, 5/5) has six times the capacity for £30 more.
